ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical adventure and role-playing games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed! ScummVM is a complete rewrite of these games' executables and is not an emulator.

I'm hoping it will support more point n click based software. And not just classic adventure titles, but also activity centres and classic Windows based edutainment games and encyclopedias.

eXo just released eXoScummVM v2.8.0. It is 212 GB, but well worth it!

So if I already own one of these games via GOG or Steam, I would get added benefits from running them in ScummVM? Sounds great!

​@@JustJamie1983 I know that if I owned these games on Steam, I can run them through ScummVM easily via. a custom proton known as Roberta on Linux. Otherwise, I can take the raw installation directory, create a scummvm dummy file and run it through the emulator whether standalone or through Retroarch.
Steam and GOG already run these games directly through ScummVM, but they are based entirely on prefixes made by the distributor, and don't provide the customization features of setting it up for yourself.

i have scummvm 1.4.0 burned on a disk and is there anyway to update it manually.
