    I liked that first shot a lot. When Velvia works, there's nothing like it. Nice work on the second shot, especially bringing detail to those highlights.

      Thanks Jim, agreed. I've got a pretty good stock of Velvia still so it'll be a while, but I'm going to be sad to see it gone when its gone ☹️

    That final shot is special. I love how the lichens are cleaned off the wall by the waving of the bush in the wind, but at the time you shot, the bush isn't full of leaves. Very cool story there. Thanks for sharing.

    Your first composition with the triangle shaped wall in tha back is probaly my favourite of the past 12 months.Congrats.

    Three strong images here, Chris. Placing the box elder in the corner give more a sense of expanse than, say, a closer up one. Very expressive colors in the slot. As for the footprints, well, it is a slot after all. They help take your eye through and make you wonder what's around the bend. The favorite down here is the bush (which my best guess would be a Utah Serviceberry). The lines, the centering, the subtle colors. Plus, it's something we missed this fall, so there's that.

      Thanks Frank! I really liked your closer shot though, it's really interesting to see the different takes on it as I think I've seen four different images of that little tree from this fall, haha. Just too good of a little subject to pass on. Serviceberry seems like a better guess than any I have, whatever it is I'll have to take some good phone pics of them next time and try to figure it out!

    Very nice Chris. The last image was my favorite. All the compositional elements combined as you described really brought that one to life. Zion is just full of diagonal shapes that really make interesting photographs. I also liked the "around the bend shot." Those kind always appeal to me. Well done.

    I'm always up for a little Bush. Especially on velvia. The other photos were great too. Mossy patches always look good when wet. Glad no light leeks this time and it all went smoothly.

    Great work Chris! The slot composition is my favorite. It’s been year since I’ve been down there, but that photo really made me feel like I was there

    A fine collection and can only say I agree with everything you say. I probably prefer the Slot shot off the three 👍

    Always love your videos. Just stepping into large format myself after years in MF. Those Velvia shots still look pretty blue on the light table… maybe it’s time for an 85a filter as well?? 😉🤓

    I think these detail shots will sit well on your intended print portfolio. The botany and geology place them geographically, without necessarily making it obvious to all and sundry. To people who have an affinity with those areas, they will probably have a lot of meaning.

      Thanks Matt! I agree, that's a great observation and I think it'll be really great to see these in print. As much as I love a great big dramatic landscape image I know that sometimes the simpler scenes with more focus do better on a wall, and all three of these in this episode are areas people walk right past while exploring the park.

    Nice work Chris. I’m glad you cloned out the moss in that first photo, it looks way better without it. The second one has some really great color contrast between the canyon walls. Well done!

      Thanks Brian! I didn't expect Ektar to go that way with the color contrast but I agree it was a nice surprise!

    Wonder if front shift would have helped to avoid green moss patch, hard to tell. Vel50 wins again.

    • @ChrisDarnell
      @ChrisDarnell  2 года назад +1

      It definitely would have, but I couldn't get it all the way out of frame without moving the sapling and the crack line into an awkward position, so I prioritized those elements and ignored the moss. Maybe next time I'll look at it again with a different focal length or a vertical comp in mind and see what else I can do with it!

    Removing the moss in post is dangerous ground. Could you feel Satan's icy fingers reaching for your soul as you made the change? ;-)
    The canyon walls are nice, but that last shot is a really beautiful composition.

      I could hear the screams of the moss dying with every click of the clone stamp.. haha 😆 Thanks Tim!

    I use the same backpack and am looking for a bit of extra space. Those side bags you have look to do the trick, what are they and where can they be found? Are they padded?

    • @ChrisDarnell
      @ChrisDarnell  Год назад +1

      Seems you found the gear video where I talk about those, but yes they have a little bit of padding to them. I also bought some clips to attach them to the straps on my bag, I believe those are linked in that other video as well
