I've never tried fishing the ned rig like that but I'll definitely be trying it next time I fish wheeler... This goes to prove, the ned rig is the most versatile bait I've used! I fish Smith a lot and usually catch em by dragging it on the bottom or swimming it slow. I fish wheeler the same way and have luck too but I'm definitely trying it your way soon. Great video
Awesome video. I'm headed to Wheeler next week targeting blue catfish, but want to try for a smallmouth since I've never caught one. Any tips for a mid November pattern? Thanks!
Hi Koondick, hey, watched a video of you crushing smallmouth in Wheeler lake and was hoping to get directions to the spot you love most, almost every time, you are getting smallies to bite. Would you please give directions to this spot from Ingalls Harbor Boat Ramp?
I don't usually give up my fishing spots but ill make a exception. don't put in at Ingalls. put in at 2nd creek and fish anywhere around there. just don't catch em all lol. tight lines
@@KoondickOutdoors I really didn't want to ask, but I'm so new to this lake and a little intimidated, I need all the help I can scrounge! I will tell you, unless it is a crappie, it gets a picture and then is released.
We fished your hole last Saturday at the HS Bass Nations and couldn’t hardly get the fish to bite. 1st stop that morning the guys lost 4 bass and caught 2 under. We hit the point here around 8:30 and only got two bites. Bad thing is one of those bites were on a jig and heavy line and broke off. Sure would have liked to have gotten 5 of those 2 1/2lb smallies.
Timing is everything for those fish. It can go from feast to famine in a matter of day's. So much also depends on if they are pulling water at the damn. I hate yall had a tough tournament.Hopefully yall will get on em next time. Tight lines
Man me and my dad have been trying ti get up there and catch a smallie he lived there for a brief times in the 90's (on the gulf coast of bama now no smallmouth 😒) and he said in May it is always on in there
Do you still fish on wheeler? I live in the area and it has been beating me up since it got hot outside. If you can give me any tips I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Definitely it's my home lake. In the summer wheeler can kick your butt. Best advise I can give you if you not fishin deep with electronics ( which I don't) is to adjust your fishing times. Daylight to about 9 am and 2 or 3 hrs before dark. Also night fishing is a great way to get more bites and beat boat traffic. I personally like going at 2 or 3 am and fishing all the way through the morning bite. Top lures for me this time of year are deep diving crankbaits, ned rigs or shakey heads, lipless crankbaits, jigs and lizards. Hope that helps. Tight lines!
Also my home lake! In the summer time I advise staying away from the Decatur flats/Decatur area if you have no electronics, I would stick to early hours fishing rocky bluff walls at the west end and east end of the lake

Deep diving crankbaits

@@justinbuckles120 around rocks and bluffs deep cranking but this time of year though find buck bushes and use a square bill and spinnerbate
