Very enjoyable and informative analysis of this classic film. I'm old enough to have seen Alien and Aliens in the theatre and of course was completely floored by both. Ridley Scott's original was simply unlike anything that had come before it in it's look and feel. The crew with their dinner table conversations in the opening scenes talking about job descriptions and bonus pay, The look of the Nostromo with it's corridors of hanging chains and dripping water and truly terrifying alien creatures. Cameron's follow up was so different with the military theme and yet stands on it's own as such a worthy successor. I agree with all your points, especially about how it's it's practical effects and realistic hardware is so superior to much of today's cartoonish CGI. Some of those Marvel movies. Yikes. Fellow Canadian Denis Villeneuve is keeping it real in the Dune films as well. By the way I would love to see you take more trips "down memory lane" and always look forward to your content.

Big thanks once again Mark. I'm envious of your cinematic first viewing of these films. I'm not young but sadly missed out of the experience of all that. Luckily I do have fond memories of discovering these treasures on VHS as a kid and sneakily watching them without my parents knowing haha. I also enjoyed Dune and look forward to watching the second. I think I'll be talking about The Thing next as this is for me on par with Alien and I love everything about that film also. Thanks again for your support dude, take care.

Well done & spot on, mate. I think the entire mission to LV426 was a direct concoction by W-Y from the very beginning. Else why would they put someone like Gorman in charge of it unless it was setup to fail. The fact that Burke was "along for the ride" is the main cue. The best movie sequel ever. Action, adventure, suspense and horror all in one amazing package. A true classic. Cameron took Ridley Scott’s xenomorph and gave it more depth and detail. His additions make the creature equally chilling, but way more dangerous. I do believe that the hosts are food for the hive and are tidied away once they have served their purpose. I'm only 2 minutes into the video, but I can tell you exactly where this mission went wrong. When Ripley points out that the marines are directly under the reactor and firing their weapons may inadvertently trigger a nuclear explosion. And for some unfathomable reason, they think the logical thing to do is to collect all the ammo from the soldiers, leaving them with only a flame thrower and a shotgun for protection. How the hell does this make any sense? You are going to send in the marines, totally without adequate fire power, against questionably the most vicious creature in the known universe? They didn't think that perhaps backing out so that they can reassess the situation, might be the better option???
One thing I always found funny about that scene, is when Ripley is screaming at Gorman to get his men out of there, you are hearing the marines on their radios, yelling for everyone to retreat. Gorman didn't need to say anything, the marines were already doing it. Or at least attempting to do it.
Anyways, I don't know if this video is going to address anything I just talked about, so we will just have to see.

Xenomorphs are non-obligate lithovores. They can ingest, plastic, rocks, dirt, metal, and glass. The dorsal vents on their backs are able to inhale massive amounts of air and moisture, which is why they drool so much. Oxygen is the primary catalyst of cells. You could think of wood logs as fuel for a fire, but the xenomorphs are able to bypass this for long periods of time. Although eventually they will need some form of material nutrition. Typically they prefer what their host ate, but don't explicitly require that specific diet to survive. They maintain their mass and form from being in direct contact with the creeping secretion of the nest. As long as they are able to return to the nest, they won't need to consume any material.
People often forget that they are synthetic biomechanical constructs, given - consciousness. They are a perfect union of the organic and mechanical.

Really enjoyable walk-though of the movie. You're right - what happened to the 'pups' or advanced scanning of the area? I always wondered why a military unit with androids on-board wouldn't send them as an advanced team, as tactical recon. They could relay video and essential feeds, via a portable uplink and plant a charge, to draw the attention of the Xenos - flush them out, so a proper assessment could be made. Also Burke and Ripley weren't required on the surface - they could've remained on the Sulaco; once the team was on the surface, Burke could've drugged Ripley, placed her in stasis and take the drop ship with a company android to the the alien wreaked spaceship, extract an egg or two in a suitable container and returned. Easy way to implant Ripley, nuke the colony site from orbit and return home.. or to a Wayland remote science facility, to study their prize.

I believe that the company had some dirt on Gorman and knew they could use it to control him if needed while on the mission. That’s why he was selected to lead this team of misanthropes. It’s very evident with the scene in which the face huggers are put into the room with Ripley and Newt. Just before she goes in there she passes Gormans room. And who is in there with him? Burke. I started thinking how would a soft as marshmallow fluff, corporate stooge, Burke able to lift those tanks and dump them into the room without help. He couldn’t have. Gorman must have helped him. Burke was probably in his room reminding him of the dirt they had on him and telling him to help get Ripley and Newt impregnated. Also at the beginning of the movie. It’s Burke and Gorman that show up at Riply’s apartment to convince her to go.
