Well, Vagh was pretty suspicious of him earlier in the episode. I think it had less to do with generalized respect, and more to do with the fact that he disarmed a would-be assassin just a minute earlier. That makes it pretty unlikely that he's the Romulan spy.

The governor and Picard have been butting heads this episode, and Picard been holding his own, even responding in Klingon to an insult, prompting the governor to compliment his Klingon swearing.
By the time the assassination even happens, and LaForge, a crewmate of Picard's, is the seeming culprit, the governor only suspects the Federation, cause by this point he respects Picard and knows he has no part in this business.

Troi's job was very important, but it's boring to show on television. However, it serves as an anchor to keep people, stable, grounded, and focused.

This is one of the best Geordie episodes. All the cast get to play a vital role, but Geordie is at the heart of it, and I appreciate that at the end, they didn't just shrug it off like, "Oh, well, you got brainwashed." He's upset, he's angry, he's vulnerable, and probably scared. I'm glad they did that. Levar Burton is a good actor.

Out of everything in star trek, I think (and hope) this was the cruelest thing done to anyone. Being forced to see horrors again and again and being brainwashed into assassinating a Chief Obrien even if it was a simulation, forced to try to kill an Emissary to destroy everything he stood for and acquiring fake memories including one of love, is so messed up. Knowing star trek tho, I bet someone has dealt with worse and I am just not aware of it

@@-pancakes7205 It wasn't just Berman pushing for an episodic show. _TNG_ was a *first-run syndication* TV show from the beginning (no network was willing to pay for it outright). It didn't belong to a network. Individual stations bought seasons and aired them. Thus, the show-runners no control over which episodes were aired on any given station and in what order, and the same was true for reruns. They needed things to be pretty self-contained so that people wouldn't be confused by not having the backstory.

I remember in Deep Space Nine, where a Weyoun surrendered himself to Sisko as a prisoner of war, cynically and as disingenuously as Ambassador Kel does here.

    • @dreadlindwyrm

@@SanjaySingh-oh7hv It's complicated, but since he's already in custody with the Klingons, it might well be that he's already outside of being able to be granted asylum.
It'd depend on what the treaties between the Federation and the Empire are.

Geordi must feel so violated. False memories of private experiences implanted and not even sure which ones are false.
But when he said he isn't sure of anything, that is quite a spiritual experience. It can awaken one to how you cannot identify the illusion while still in it.
I had that kind of feeling once. I merely had the sensory perceiver and the observer moved apart in time a couple seconds, and after the experience was over, I was wondering whether it was still going on, realizing that I couldn't really tell but only get used to accepting the familiar one as legit again.
