      British-mechanic I'm a Hgv mechanic and occasionally get work on British fire engines. I drive a fast car reasonably well, but I take my hat off to the men and women who drive these fantastic machines. I get to drive them around the industrial park where I work, I don't obviously drive as quick as your dad, and never will. I don't know how he does, you can really feel the weight of them as you go into corners at speed. I wish him and his colleagues good health and happiness in there jobs and life

    • @Jessebella1
      @Jessebella1 5 лет назад +10

      No, they do slow down inconsiderate drivers, they do stop people being hit and in the more quiet back roads they are installed they do keep children in the streets safer and they do the job they set out to do, you say it as if all they do is dely response times for emergency services. My daughter was hit by a car as she ran out between parked cars after the ice cream truck and if it wasnt for those speed bumps slowing the driver down to a crawl, she would be dead. Its a shame they slow emergency services down but i still think without them it would be worse.

    • @YelpBullhorn
      @YelpBullhorn 4 года назад +4

      Richard Jones ... they'd have to pack the kit away as quickly as possible, and then respond to the call. It happens all the time. But if the make-up would result in a significantly delayed response they'd have to inform control, who may or may not, turn out another machine from another station.

      All emergency vehicles have military grade Satnavs these days. People keep nicking them out of Ambulances, but they can be turned off, blown up firmware bricked, of set to be tracked by the police, so you get traced and nicked. They don't use Tomtoms.

      Sat nav can be useless, better to have properly trained crews who study & know the area. Not just where to go, but alternative routes for different times of day & night, even seasons, along with the nature of the risk at the address they are mobilised to by prior inspection.

YES those drivers find they've got almost nowhere to go and get the evil eye from the emergency vehicle crew, it's worth pointing out that most emergency vehicles have both front and rear cameras if anything untowards occurs and let's face it... It's a real problem here in the UK when people double park on narrow streets.

      @@brushhead Good thing is, those fire engines are built like tanks, so if there are lives on the line they can legally shove cars out of the way.

      The road on the yard side of our house is especially narrow, and yet I have seen a fire engine go along it (i live in a block of terrace houses, and the roads on the yard side of the houses are very narrow, and the roads on the garden side of the houses are reasonably wide, there are multiple blocks of terrace houses, with the garden sides back to back and the yard sides back to back)

      @@warailawildrunner5300 ooooh, no. if they did that, they would have to stop, close the road off, fill out a report in triplicate, and have a debrief as to why they bumped the car out the way.
      When that's all done, they can carry on to the fire.

    • @warailawildrunner5300

      @@ayl3166 Sure they have to fill out forms in triplicate.... afterwards. But they are legally allowed to in the case of lives in danger. I've asked a few of them about this

    Why don't they keep the siren on until they're arrived?!?!?🤦🏻‍♂️
    They could save more time: if you hear the siren you can run on the street and let them arrive before!
    Btw I really appreciate what they do every day for us. so much respect!

    • @jeremyapps

      theres no need for siren when there are no cars. it also creates unnecessary noise for the surrounding neighbors

    • @EnjoyFirefighting

      I also switch the siren off when not necessary, when the roads are empty or when I'm slower than the flow of traffic
