- Danny Dyer was discovered by a scout while at school in East London and landed his first acting role in Prime Suspect 3 in 1994. He gained a reputation for playing the tough guy and films like Human Traffic (1999) and The Football Factory (2004) put him on the road to stardom. Danny is most famous for his portrayal of Mick Carter in EastEnders from 2013 to 2022.
Ryan Sampson was born in Rotherham and studied acting at Drama Centre London. He began his career on stage in various theatrical productions. His big break came in 2013, when he played Grumio in the historical sitcom Plebs on ITV2. Ryan also appeared in Brassic with Michelle Keegan in 2019. Ryan wrote and stars in the new comedy series Mr Bigstuff with Danny Dyer.
As a sign of what’s to come, Danny and Ryan request a glass of something strong before they sit down at the Dish table. Nick obliges and pours some Edmundo Malbec, an Argentinian red, recommended by the experts at Waitrose. He then gets to work on their favourite cocktail, an old fashioned. Meanwhile, Angela is busy in the kitchen slow-roasting a shoulder of lamb with anchovies, oregano and garlic with roast potatoes.
Danny and Ryan are an unlikely pair but their chemistry is undeniable, making this Dish double-date unmissable. Our foursome talks vinaigrettes, pesto and couscous before tackling the important topic of modern masculinity, inspired by their new show, out now on Sky.

We can’t all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help.
Send your dilemmas to dish@waitrose.co.uk and she’ll try to answer in a future episode.
Dish is a S:E Creative Studio production for Waitrose
Small request for the producers: how about a close up of the plate before it's eaten? Angela is a Michelin star chef and a lot of us are genuinely interested in the food.
Yes i love it but also think it’s strange that we never actually SEE THE FOOD 😮
Agreed this would take it next level xx 😊
You are correct 100%
Yes absolutely!!!
It's a microwave meal 😂
TV producers coming up with all sorts of ludicrous crap, when all you need is 4 interesting people having a chat over dinner.
And which 4 might that be?
3 and Nick Grimshaw
Great comment
Bloody well said, all we need is prudish RUclips to stop bleeping out sweaty words (occasionally the algorithm doesn't spot one, victory cry from me)
I can't get enough of this podcast, always so funny and the food always looks fab, I wish the episodes were a little longer, love it! ❤
Ditto❤❤❤
I love the way Danny looks at Ryan, you can tell they are good mates! He hangs on every word, top gent
Mutual respect on show!
Danny Dyer & Ryan Sampson are the duo I never knew I needed ❤ Off to watch Mr Big Stuff immediately 😂😂😂😂
I love how we see danny dyer devour his lamb and then it cuts to Nick just delicately eating little tiny bites haha
Truly the greatest podcast at the moment. Loving seeing the recorded conversations so I can have a good drool over the food LOL
best duo and episode to date. infectious
I love this podcast so much but I'm begging you for some closeups of the food! All these delicious descriptions and I can barely see it! It's not fair!
Ryan Sampson is like if Robert Downey Jr drank the bottle from Alice in Wonderland that makes a person shrink.

No idea why this podcast doesn't have more subs I've enjoyed every episode ❤😊
You know, I’m going to go back to the first episode I watched and subscribe. Because you are right. I’m already a follower of their podcast.
Ryan Sampson, what a lovely bloke. ❤
The way Ryan says... 'Oh, hello' at the beginning like we snuck in & he wasn't expecting us. 😂
~ Totally understand what he meant about one of the manifestations of ADHD-it’s correlation to (sometimes) disordered eating. Wow! What a great way to bring awareness to neurodiversity; by creating a platform where a guest feels comfortable to share that unique experience. Way to go on this episode. ✨
Great to here that he’s found healthy ways to enjoy his experience of neurodivergence, despite any negative feedback from onlookers.
I can't get enough of Danny. I've never seen any of his acting likely because I'm American, but I religiously watch all the podcasts and TV he does. Just seems like a genuine good soul.
Every episode is one tasty meal ! So satisfying! Thank you N& A💕
I hope whoever pressed the BEEP button got a bonus 😜

Masculinity, women are never sat there asking themselves, am I woman enough. They don't have insecurity about whether they're woman enough or feminine enough. You can't be shit at being a woman. We've had that conversation, a woman can be a mother, can be a lawyer, can be an aunt, can be a doctor, can be a soldier, can be an actor. She can be anything she wants to be. Men, you can be anything you want to be. You can't fail at Being A Man. You can only fail at being a good person.
I'm a woman and I don't now because I've got bigger fish to fry, but I always questioned if I was girly enough growing up, so I call bollocks to that! But also, neither gender should question themselves but also we

Ryan is oh so handsome!!
Please have James and Clair Buckley on. They would be GREAT guest's. ❤
Geezer in charge of beeping out the swearing was busy enough with this episode without getting Clair Buckley on 😆
Has ryan been on the chop?
Angela must be feeling rough by the sound of her voice and often putting her hand on her forehead. Being a professional, she is doing her show as if she wasn't sick.
Celebrities falling over themselves to declare themselves as 'working class' just to be relatable to the plebs. It also reinforces the divisive class system in the UK which suits the powers that be perfectly. The UK is a very complex place with very strange culture and social undercurrent. Most people are pretentious pretending to be 'ordinary' so they can garner respect and go undetected in their exploits. I'm Irish and spent 3 years in England, everything seems to be a scam or a manipulation there. It really is a miserable place.
I bet you are a lot of fun at parties 😂
@Kbyr083 sorry for calling a spade a spade
Well maybe that’s what you think you are doing.
Nah you don't really know what your on about so you arent calling a spade a spade at all!. I went to Ryan's school at the same time as him. Do you think a load of mining villages in Rotherham in the decade after the pits closed is a privileged place to grow up??? Luckily it was a brilliant school with inspirational teachers, especially Mrs Cole the head of drama who Ryan will have got a lot of support from. The school had extra funding due to it at the time being one of the most deprived places in the EU. We had regular drug raids by the police due to everyone under the sun dealing to the kids (even the bus drivers). Teenage pregnancy, suicide, drug overdoses and kids living in squats as its better than living with drug addict parents were all things that had happened to kids in my class by the time I was 14. Ryan was the year below me so won't have been any different. Thankfully its a very different place to grow up in now than it was in the 80s and 90s.
