- I decided to give solo glamping a go as I work my way (and my courage) up to tent camping. I so enjoyed my time at Hidden Ridge, a beautiful secluded spot nestled amongst the trees around Otter Lake in southern Illinois. I’m soaking up these last few weeks of warm weather! Since you are seeming a little bit nervous about the upcoming camping trip, maybe you could bring a friend or family member with you camping to make the first time a bit easier. I always find doing something for the first time with a pal can be comforting.
So much respect for you getting out there and trying all the things. Inspiring to watch! Makes me want to try more and more things out of my own comfort zone. Good for you Jen. We're cheering!!

I've followed you for several years now, Jennifer and I can't tell you how much I admire your willingness and courage to explore these new solo adventures you're embarking on. I do worry about you but know you have a solid head on your shoulders and will remain alert and aware of your surroundings for your personal safety. i love watching the women who sleep in beautiful spots in their vans, but i would be so scared that i dont think i could fully enjoy myself!! your "glamping" is a safer alternative to being in nature but yes, you still need to trust your gut. im glad that you are prepared just in case..

As a seasoned tenter (when I was younger, now we RV in a big beautiful camper) I never had occasion to be scared, but I always had my husband and children with us. I don't know that I would feel comfortable to tent by myself. I think I would. My impression is that state parks are better places to tent by oneself with all the people around. People who camp at state parks seem a little different than people at resorts, not better, but different. If you try it, try it at a state park. I am loving seeing your adventures with Winnie. She is a good sport and just loves being with you.
You’re selling a “free” experience and that’s refreshing for a content creator. All of us have access to nature in some form and this is inspiring to get out and enjoy and be in the present moment. You could see your happiness shine on that lake with your pup ✨ thank you for sharing!

I’m not a camper but yes I’m worried you’ll get lost on the lake w/o a market and get yourself eyewear stap for those glasses !!!!! Lakes swallow sunglasses !!!! So cool you inspire me !!

If you want to do watersports solo, it may be a good reminded to wear a life jacket and also for Winnie in case something happens to make your board turn over! Just thinking about what happened to Naya Rivera where she went on a lake alone with a small child only.
Winnie had a life jacket on but I agree she should wear one. We love our Jen and for sure don’t want anything to happen to her. 😊

Loved the video Jen. FYI- you may wish to purchase a leash for your paddleboard. Connect it to your board and the it wraps around your ankle. Just in case you fall in you'll know your board is in close proximity to you. Also, and I didn't know this at first, but they make paddles that float, so if you drop your paddle in the water your not frantically trying to breach it before it sinks. Aha I, loving these styles of vlogs.

Winnie in the life jacket!! My heart!! Looks like an awesome spot. I know what you mean about taking your own kitchen stuff. I have a bin that has all my travel cooking supplies and I take it with us whether we're camping or Air BnBing. It's saved my butt a number of times!

I love traveling solo! I tend to just sleep in my car, which is much less glamorous. This looks amazing! Being alone in nature is really special.
I know how you feel about your kids on here and completely understand. I was wondering, if you don’t want to show future trips with them, can you do a sit down of where you have gone, what you have and have not liked or wasn’t ideal and what you look for when searching for places to take them. Looks like Conestoga was amazing!

Keep aluminum foil in your gear! You can make foil packets of food and put them in the fire or on the grill. You can also thick slice tofu and put that on the grill too! :)

Yes I agree there are so many cool portable items to make your "camp kitchen" have all your essentials in a bin. My family and I love to go camping it's so fun to learn née things along the way and make our camping experiences better and better every time.

I think this was one of my favorite videos of yours, Jen. You look so happy & at peace. I love nature & believe your surroundings play a big part in your mental health. And I'm sorry you've had to deal with so much on your channel especially when it comes to the safety of your children. Kids should be off limits. I remember when Anna was going thru the same thing & it played a big part in why I left youtube. You shouldn't have to do that though. You deserve to be here just like anyone else & there are far more of us that love you & the content you put out than the people that are trying to run you off & are causing trouble bc they are envious of you & your lifestyle. You deserve all the happiness in the world. And I pray the love, concern for others & joy you put out into the world comes back to you. You are important & loved. Enjoyed the video. Please...this is not meant as criticism... I foster senior dogs; pls be careful exposing older dogs to what we view as new adventures. As a longtime viewer of your channel, Winnie has been very pampered; i.e., leaving her with Aunt Julie for Target trips etc. Disclosure...my dogs are pampered as well.....and being exposed to new environments may be harder on her than you may realize.

@@aleksandradell944 Honestly, I thought Winnie looked scared to be on the paddle board. That alone can be quite stressful. Plus, in this situation, Winnie was strapped to the board. I'd be very concerned if (as Jen isn't an experienced boarder yet) the board had flipped. I'm sure the original commenter can elaborate more on other aspects of it.
Hi..sure! First, it absolutely depends on the breed and foremost, the lifestyle the dog has led. If your spaniel has been previously exposed to active/various environments your dog should be fine! I have a 12 year old Lab that I wouldn’t hesitate taking on the water with me. He’s gone hunting with my kids, stayed in various camp grounds, and has always been able to stay alone all day while we worked. Based on watching many years of Jen’s videos, Winnie wouldn’t be left alone for more than a few hours in their own home. I don’t know if she’s ever been in a pool or lake; but it’s clear she was shaking on the paddle board; although being bungee corded may have frightened her as well.
