Bloody awful film. The script is awful, the acting is pretty awful, it’s badly made, the fight scenes are terrible. Bloody loved every minute of it.😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁Why did I enjoy it so much?Mostly because it’s not trying to be something it’s not, it’s an unapologetic 80s naff action film. It delivers exactly what you want, silly one liners, big explosions and Arnie killing loads of bad guys without once ever actually aiming at anyone properly, I think the main reason I still like it so much is it’s a big middle finger up at any sort of PC culture, it’s even more relevant now after everything that has gone on in the last few years.

Looking at it with current eyes vs the young teenager enthralled with all things manly and military is actually better. I can now appreciate things about this movie overall, that I could never have even noticed so many years ago! Pure brilliance!

Not as far as I know. In his autobiography he mentions few times, that when he was starting his movie career he had to LOSE quite a few kilo, because he was too big for movies. Those who hired him obviously wanted him mainly for his physique, but even for them his prime form was too much, he would be too big on camera. Peak Arnie was even bigger :)
@@beardedbjorn5520 He wasn't that lean. His BF was around 10.5%. He was under 105 kgs, also. Olympia shape for him was 102 kgs and some 8% BF in 1980. 1975 Olympia he was over 107 kgs around 8 to 9% BF. For a 1.87m tall guy 40 years ago, classic, well proportioned but massive.
Gentlemen, it may have been over a year since you've aired this episode. Nonetheless, thank you for the entertainment and company today while traveling on the left lane on the Autobahn.
One time some friends of mine and I played a drinking game where we'd take a shot every time Arnie had a one-liner. We got soooo hammered, I believe it was 13 shots in an hour and a half. Worth it!
One of my all time favourite movies. I saw it for the first time while in South Africa as a kid. My Aunt lives out there and my Parents used to visit a bit. I watched it so much I knew every line pretty much off heart. To the point that even now (Many, many years later!). I was correcting you and Az on some of your quotes :D It was an absolute pleasure listening to you both for the full time. Now I'm going back to watch your Terminator video :D Please keep doing these :D
Best movie of all time. Even if it was a short with just Arnold throwing the lead pipe and his one-liner it would still be the most epic action movie of all time.
Continuity mistake apart from Porsche. Arnold gears up, puts his vest on and then applies tiger stripes. But when he takes his vest off he has stripes all over his body even the bits covered by the vest.
In the next motel room, with the woman being behind the man and having a video camera.......they were into some freaky $hit. I'm sure they went back to it after, Matrix and Cindy left (just ignore the dead body, broken door and bullet holes).
why oh why did you do this NOW, the week after EFAP 100. There is literally not enough hours to listen to this and missed EFAP pieces, extras and this in a week
This is probably one of my favorite videos from the Critical Drinker. It just seem like he and Az are really enjoying themselves here. I wish we could get more content like this instead of the more negative stuff we see these days. It’s the kind of content I wish I could make, just taking about stuff i enjoyed with my friend.
Same my first video with critical drinker, i found him through Az.. still best to this day, no comments about negative current days, just a good times and laughs
I remember in the year 1995 I was 7-8 years old (I don't remember exactly) and I somehow came across a VHS tape on which there were 2 films Commando and Cobra-this tape I rubbed to holes, was almost my favorite And phrases like "LET OFF SOME STEAM, BENNETT" and "You're a disease and I'm the cure" have stayed with me forever Hello from Russia
Fantastic livestream of one of my favourite 80's films. It's both hilarious and has awesome action scenes. One of my favourite parts is at the beginning, where he goes to access his armoury and types in its epic lock code: 13. I grew up watching The Prisoner on reruns in the 90's with my mum and dad and it has always stuck with me. That giant white ball is unforgettable!
I was a little girl in 80s/ beginning of 90's and yes, I loved all films with Arnold. It wasn't even a crush, or wanting to be like him. It was just awe.
Drinker, babyface, your laughter in this conversation is contagious & I've never seen this Arnie classic slipped through the cracks of my Arnie childhood, working on it!
Back when men could be men and it was 1000% toxic masculinity, everything that is lacking from modern movies today. Also The mansion that Matrix raids at the very end of the movie is the same one that Axel Foley raids in Beverly Hills Cop! They also used the same mall that we see John Conner first meet Arnold as the T-800.
The stewardess is played by non other than Chelsea Field - who was Bruce Willis's wife in the mighty Last Boyscout - another OTT Joel Silver production worth some Commando love 🤟
I am surprised that the Drinker did not see the film in its entirety. Here in Brazil it passed without any cut. In other words, the scene in the shed was not cut and I was able to appreciate Arnold cutting heads in my childhood.
Commando was the first movie I saw where I had the theater to myself. I went to college in a small midwest town that had a one-screen movie theater. They'd get movies about a month after they hit the big cities. On Tuesdays, they had $1 movie nights. So I went on Tuesday night. It was awesome, altho I felt a bit guilty making the theater staff stick around all night because one guy spent a buck.
It's also funny that Matrix blew up that big building with a couple Claymore mines. They're anti-personel mines that shoot ballbearings to take out soldiers.
I will refuse to apologize for loving this movie

The shed scene was mostly cut for the theatrical version. The crazy cartoon violence was restored/extended in the dvd and bluray directors cut.
As soon as I saw Commando I Knew this podcast would be ridiculously awesome! Just like the movie
This was Arnie when he was still peak Olympus body
Not as far as I know. In his autobiography he mentions few times, that when he was starting his movie career he had to LOSE quite a few kilo, because he was too big for movies. Those who hired him obviously wanted him mainly for his physique, but even for them his prime form was too much, he would be too big on camera.
Peak Arnie was even bigger :)
@@kalash_nikov what a fuckin legend
He got quite lean for this movie. He must have cut so hard for this.
@@beardedbjorn5520
He wasn't that lean.
2 guys talk for hours about what's great about COMMANDO .... literally everything
Gentlemen, it may have been over a year since you've aired this episode. Nonetheless, thank you for the entertainment and company today while traveling on the left lane on the Autobahn.
Thanks Drinker and Az, I just re-watched this movie today and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed hearing your discussion. There were times when I was laughing so much, there were tears in my eyes.
One time some friends of mine and I played a drinking game where we'd take a shot every time Arnie had a one-liner. We got soooo hammered, I believe it was 13 shots in an hour and a half. Worth it!
Listening to this stream yesterday and I went straight home afterwork and had to watch Commando! Brilliant
One of my all time favourite movies. I saw it for the first time while in South Africa as a kid. My Aunt lives out there and my Parents used to visit a bit. I watched it so much I knew every line pretty much off heart. To the point that even now (Many, many years later!). I was correcting you and Az on some of your quotes :D
It was an absolute pleasure listening to you both for the full time.
Now I'm going back to watch your Terminator video :D
Please keep doing these :D
This is hands down, one of my favorite videos! A big thank you to two of my favorite RUclipsrs.
Best movie of all time. Even if it was a short with just Arnold throwing the lead pipe and his one-liner it would still be the most epic action movie of all time.
Pissing myself laughing with this. Feels like I'm in a room with my mates talking about the shit that really matters. Thanks guys.
Continuity mistake apart from Porsche. Arnold gears up, puts his vest on and then applies tiger stripes. But when he takes his vest off he has stripes all over his body even the bits covered by the vest.
He knew eventually that bad boy was coming off..
Professional wrestlers called that move the 'Roar Spot', which quite fits Arnie in this movie.
Yeah, so unfair. :)
the more the merrier!
I love how drinker keeps bringing back to all those amazing movies. I find myself constantly having to get them and give them another watch :)).
Every man should see Commando as a child - agreed!
Haha! I haven't watched this since the early 90s. Now I want to rewatch it after listening to you both.
Bill Paxton is a Legend!
Wow 2 years ago I watched this live. So much had changed in my life since then. But I'm here again to enjoy this stream lmao.
The watch with the incredibly loud countdown that is only audible when it's being looked at always made me laugh, if Matrix was here he'd laugh too.
Lololol
I believe the ending mansion is the same one from the ending of Beverly Hills Cop.
It's the typical bad guy columbian villa in 80s, God I miss old action films.
I remember in the year 1995 I was 7-8 years old (I don't remember exactly) and I somehow came across a VHS tape on which there were 2 films
Commando and Cobra-this tape I rubbed to holes, was almost my favorite
And phrases like "LET OFF SOME STEAM, BENNETT" and "You're a disease and I'm the cure" have stayed with me forever
Hello from Russia
Fantastic livestream of one of my favourite 80's films. It's both hilarious and has awesome action scenes.
One of my favourite parts is at the beginning, where he goes to access his armoury and types in its epic lock code: 13.
I grew up watching The Prisoner on reruns in the 90's with my mum and dad and it has always stuck with me. That giant white ball is unforgettable!
I was a little girl in 80s/ beginning of 90's and yes, I loved all films with Arnold. It wasn't even a crush, or wanting to be like him. It was just awe.
Sylvester Stallone movie cobra would be cool to get a review on.
One of the great action movies. Entertaining and fun, as well.
Drinker, babyface, your laughter in this conversation is contagious & I've never seen this Arnie classic slipped through the cracks of my Arnie childhood, working on it!
Rewatched Commando recently. It is gold!!!! Now I'm back here for the awesome chat.
Vernon Wells was also in Weird Science. I understand he was not the original actor to play in Bennett in Commando hence the awkward costume fit.
I'm not gonna shoot you between the eyes I'm gonna shoot you between the balls🤣🤣🤣led owf sum steem bennet
Great film, my mam let me watch all the best 80s action films
Absolutely love these two guys!
Those are pretty cool tidbits of info. thank you, fellow struggler.
The stewardess is played by non other than Chelsea Field - who was Bruce Willis's wife in the mighty Last Boyscout - another OTT Joel Silver production worth some Commando love 🤟
Bennet is played by Vernon Wells who was Wez in Mad Max 2 and spoofed the character in Weird Science.
Rae Dawn Chong was good in “Tales from the Darkside”. Her vignette with James Remar Lover’s Vow was the best
She was also good in "Quest for Fire".
Feeding the deer ice cream. So 80s ❤
My favourite Arnie movie… AWESOME!
AZ and Drinker, the dream team!
caught most of this live .. sounded like you guys had a lot of fun .. AZDAHAHAHA!
Oh man, I wish I had been there when this was originally recorded. So awesome.
I am surprised that the Drinker did not see the film in its entirety. Here in Brazil it passed without any cut. In other words, the scene in the shed was not cut and I was able to appreciate Arnold cutting heads in my childhood.
My father had Robocop and Commando in one vhs video and we loved watching it.
"Explosives are explosives!"
@Giuseppe Shmo
He also picked up the Claymore mines, and anti-tank missiles at a gun store.
Typical items in a California gun store?
This is my favourite duo
The bit with the shed was from Commando: The Snyder Cut.
