If you made a team of nothing but psuedo dragons like gyardos and charizard and called it a dragon type team, it would still be more believable to me than Flint's team being called a fire team.

Actually, you will miss out on Mega Houndoom in X, because funny thing is that the Houndoomite is excluisve to Y, while the Manectite is exclusive to X, despite Manectric being a Y exclusive.
Correction on the Y thing, saying you can use Mega Houndoom. The houndoomite is not in the same game. I know because I had Y when it came out, my best friend had X and he was happy he could use a Houndoom, his favorite Pokemon, but I had to trade my Houndoomite over to him so he could use the new form. Guess what he did to that save file that makes me remember this?
@emperorcubone if I still have your attention, I would love a video exploring the possibility of "theme gyms" instead of our normal type gym setup. Example a Cat type gym leader, monkey (don't make them black) or wrestling. I think it would be a cool way to mix things up. Even more if you gave every leader 8 pokemon and the game randomly matched them based on the number of badges you have. This would mean that you can challenge them in any order, and potentially make early leaders feel harder to plan for than late ones.

By unfortunate I mean things like: has physical stats but few physical moves, how hard to find, fewest appearances through out the series, bad typing for its stats (aka bulky but ice rock), that sort of thing. The one that most makes you go "wow gamefreak must really hate that pokemon". I think it might be Aurorus.
@@emperorcubone You can really tell Aurorus has it pretty bad because I genuinely thought it would be much MUCH harder to pick a winner, I thought it would take literal hours of comparing wiki pages. It took like 15 minutes. At least 5 of those minutes were me marveling at just how unfortunate Aurorus is. The ONE thing it could have had going for it was its looks, and then they paired it up with Tyrantrum so it even lost, in its own game, at literally the ONLY thing it does well.
I actually did Y for a Fire Mono. Delphox was MVP of the run when she swept both Lysandre and Diantha. The rest of the team was also great. Pyroar had great synergy with Delphox, Charizard can Mega Evolve and set up Sun, Flareon was the only Physical Attacker and got Flare Blitz reasonable early, Chandelure has 145 Sp Atk to abuse, and Rotom Heat covered Water Types. I was saving Talonflame for the Flying run.
While everyone is saying dp is the worst with 2 team members as options, i'd just like to say that fire manages to get outclassed by flying in r/b/y even without mentioning Dragonite. Consider this, no steel types cause this was before magnemite and magneton got that type change. And while fire can hit ice super effectively, most of the ice types in gen 1 are part water type. The exceptions being Jynx, which you only fight once as lorelei has it, and Articuno, which is a legendary that is optional. Like the rest of the legendaries. For bug and grass, flying is also super effective against them. and you get more flying type options earlier as well as not having to wait until the endgame to get a move like flamethrower for most of the team as it wasn't a tm in r/b/y. And Rapidash couldn't even learn flamethrower in gen 1.
@@emperorcubone You could a full team of flying types in kanto before the 3rd gym. Granted either half or a third of the team would be part normal but its still better than waiting until route 8 for a version exclusive fire type.
So I don’t know for sure, but when you eventually get to Dragon monotype team I think Kalos is actually one of the best regions to do that. I mean, yes you won’t have any for the first gym and charzard X would be considered cheating. But you do get a lot of dragons or eventual dragons before the 2nd gym with some work which you wouldn’t for most games, although the two most recent gens could be other options. As for Water, again not sure this would be top, but one of the best regions for water according to other videos I have seen was Sinnoh. I mean you can get piplup, magikarp, and psyduck before the first gym. Then you can buizel and shellos before the second gym, which would be the most difficult but you already have gyrados and prinplup would have at least a flying type move so those two would at least get you through. Meanwhile, the newest generations actually feel much more limited in water types these days because you have to wait for surf to get most options now that they got rid of fishing altogether.
given how often gym leaders use non-type pokemon, I wonder if there's some "honorary X type" exception rule you could apply for low pokemon types like "if the pokemon has been used by a type specialist (in a type specialist team) it counts as a honorary member of that type" ... this gives fire... Drifloom?? and Lopunny and Steelix...?? (And, Lillipup... and, Exeggutor.....) Like at least ghost gets spooky pokemon and dragon gets dinosaurs, these are weird.
I always thought Kalos was begging you to do a fire-type run. Obviously you can have 5 of them before gym 2, and once you get through there, you just steamroll the rest of the game up till Siebold in the Elite 4. Delphox being quite fast helps a lot, teach her enough coverage moves and usually she goes first, then it doesn't matter if the opponent is super-effective!
I disagree on your Black 2 & White 2 segment. You can also get Growlithe at Virbank Complex. Theres also an Eevee in Castelia Park that you to catch and evolved it into Flareon. Theres Numel & Camerupt in Reversal Mountain. Theres an Vulpix you can get in an area where you visited the shrine where Landorus had it's backstory. Heatran can be found at Reversal Mountain by getting the Magma Stone. But that's only in post game content. And if we wonna count Rotom for the Dream Radar, than go ahead. Besides the additional ones, you still got old ones returning. Darumaka is still in Route 4 and you can capture it before facing Burgh. Litwick is still found in Celestial Tower and you can get it before facing Skyla. Heatmor is still in late game. You can even get Volcarona at mid point in an cave near PWT at Driftveil City where you explore parts of Relic Castle and capture it. The only Fire type mon that's hard to get is Pansear cause it's only found in postgame. But even than, there's still better options. And there is an Fire Stone you can get at one of the desert ruins in Route 4 and another one in Lentamis Town. So yeah. Your clearly wrong about getting Fire types in Black 2 & White 2 not being any better.
You can't even get a Fire Stone in Gold/Silver before Bill's House in Kanto, only in Crystal are there trainers who can call you to give you evo stones.
I’ve never really used Fire type Pokémon as much as some others. Maybe because of how late they push them sometimes, so by then I already have a team I like using. It’s a shame since I quite like Houndour, but I had to trade with my brother to obtain one for my Soul Silver team. I certainly agree that Paldea has been the best for the Fire type, though. I had always wanted to use Camerupt, I just didn’t want the pain of its home region. So I had my chance here and Barbara(her name) certainly never disappointed. Especially since I fell into the Solid Rock ability. I had done no research so I could go in blind, as I prefer to play the game at first. Sorry for making a short story here. Trust me, this is actually shortened!
The answer for water is "Yes, except Yellow", and for Steel its Sword. Though Shield, all of Alola, X and Y, and DPPL (and BDSP by extension) are great options as well. You do need an off type HM slave for X and Y though, as Surf and Fly (though you can substitute Teleport, not that it matters) are required HMs and no steel types that learn them are available before you need them.
SwSh. You can get Ho-oh,Blacephalon,Reshiram and Heatran super early if you have DLC. Then there's Scorbunny. Kabu's gym gives you Litwick,Sizzlepede and Rolycoly. Also Leon isn't a threat. Coalossal has Stealth Rocks via Level Up.
I do that! Except it's not usually montype teams; the only one was all Flying types in HGSS. I had Gligar, Hoppip, Scyther, Drifloon, Mantyke and Skarmory!
Gamefreak: "Lets actively make certain pokemon virtually impossible to ever have for a playthrough without trading/breeding/hacking/headbutting 50 milliion trees/mastering time and space to teleport yourself to a specific location on a specific date in the past." I’m re-playing Pokemon Black 2 and I have a Growlithe on my team. And I literally can’t find a Fire Stone. I mean I tried getting one to trade for 3 BP in the little tournament, but I kept losing every time.
Im just going to mention you were completely wron on the black and white 2 games There are 12 different fire type lines in the unova dex in black 2 1 is a mythical victini so we take that out 1 is post game, the fire monkey That still leaves us with 10 different fire type Pokemon in black 2 and white 2 Magby is exclusive to black 2 and reshiram is exclusive to white 2 In black 2 and white 2 you can get Tepig (starter) Growlithe (before gym 2) Magby (before gym 2 in black 2) Darumaka (before gym 3) Flareon (before gym 4) Volcarona (right after gym 5 al lvl 35) Litwick (before gym 6) Numel (right after gym 6) Then heatmor, vulpix and reshiram is all before the E4 Thats a full team of 6 before the 6th gym, in white 2 you even get a legendary Pokemon before you take on the Champion
Yeah. I agree. I'm shocked when he says Black 2 & White 2 doesn't get any better at Fire types because B2W2 has an really good amount of Fire types you can get in that game.
i think calling the Mono type teams is a bit misleading. when you say mono type i assume using only mono fire types so there is no STAB coverage at all.
Honestly I'm half excited/half dreading Flying because it's easily one of the most versatile types, and also happens to be everywhere! So I imagine that one will be hardest...
@@emperorcubone i started a mono flying run in Heart Gold with limitation in 515 max statistics in poke. The ONE thing it could have had going for it was its looks, and then they paired it up with Tyrantrum so it even lost, in its own game, at literally the ONLY thing it does well.
There is a Chmichar quest in Legends quite early on as far as I recall
I’ve done a fire only nuzlocke in white 2. It was tricky at times but very doable and loads of fun. Would definitely recommend BW2 for a fire run.
6:30 *second gym
I actually did Y for a Fire Mono. Delphox was MVP of the run when she swept both Lysandre and Diantha. The rest of the team was also great. Pyroar had great synergy with Delphox, Charizard can Mega Evolve and set up Sun, Flareon was the only Physical Attacker and got Flare Blitz reasonable early, Chandelure has 145 Sp Atk to abuse, and Rotom Heat covered Water Types. I was saving Talonflame for the Flying run.
I actually never used Delphox when I chose Fennekin because I wanted to challenge myself and only use Braixen as unevolved. Still useful though!
Excellent point; and there are many more Flying types that can be found much earlier too!
@@emperorcubone You could a full team of flying types in kanto before the 3rd gym. Granted either half or a third of the team would be part normal but its still better than waiting until route 8 for a version exclusive fire type.
I actually did play through Pokemon Y with a Fire team! It was pretty fun. 😁
I tend to choose the fire type starter, but never tried to complete a game using only fire or any other type.
given how often gym leaders use non-type pokemon, I wonder if there's some "honorary X type" exception rule you could apply for low pokemon types
like "if the pokemon has been used by a type specialist (in a type specialist team) it counts as a honorary member of that type"
... this gives fire... Drifloom?? and Lopunny and Steelix...?? (And, Lillipup... and, Exeggutor.....)
Like at least ghost gets spooky pokemon and dragon gets dinosaurs, these are weird.
I've never tried it for X and Y, but maybe I should! It sounds fun.
Currently running a monotype water team in kalos and having a blast. Im using greninja, azumarill, lanturn, lapras, swanna and mega blastoise
Trust me, this is actually shortened!
platinum, obviously
I would like to see what regions are best for either a monotype water team or monotype steel team
Well Water is next for sure! Not sure when Steel might show up though...
Hello everyone! This is my favorite show right here!!
Kalos was really a breeze as my first monotype run but I see why it was 2nd place here
You can get a slugma egg before the first gym in hg/ss
In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Houndour was made available in the Safari zone, so the only fire type you cant catch is Slugma.
Slugma can be hatched as a egg in the very early game in heartgold and soulsilver.
which is why i just breed a team when i want a mono chllange
I do that! Except it's not usually montype teams; the only one was all Flying types in HGSS. I had Gligar, Hoppip, Scyther, Drifloon, Mantyke and Skarmory!
Do you play rom hacks? I like crystal legacy fixes the fire encounter problems
Gamefreak: "Lets actively make certain pokemon virtually impossible to ever have for a playthrough without trading/breeding/hacking/headbutting 50 milliion trees/mastering time and space to teleport yourself to a specific location on a specific date in the past."
Pokemon Players: "Screw that lets play romhacks"
Gamefreak: *surprised Pikachu face*
Fire types are discriminated agsinst in most gsmes somehow. Like it is "hard mode"
Odd considering I didn't use fire at all on my team in Scarlet
Rhyme's Sister is Paldea's Rock Specialist. Also you forgot the Giant Klawf.
You don't get a badge for fighting her so I don't count it. I did show Mulitple pictures of the Klawf, but it doesn't count as a trainer...
I’m re-playing Pokemon Black 2 and I have a Growlithe on my team. And I literally can’t find a Fire Stone. I mean I tried getting one to trade for 3 BP in the little tournament, but I kept losing every time.
Sorry to hear that! And it's not even the only Fire Stone evolution in Unova so you'd need more than one!
I just found a Fire Stone in the Seaside Cave
Im just going to mention you were completely wron on the black and white 2 games
There are 12 different fire type lines in the unova dex in black 2
1 is a mythical victini so we take that out
1 is post game, the fire monkey
That still leaves us with 10 different fire type Pokemon in black 2 and white 2
Magby is exclusive to black 2 and reshiram is exclusive to white 2
In black 2 and white 2 you can get
Tepig (starter)
Growlithe (before gym 2)
Magby (before gym 2 in black 2)
Darumaka (before gym 3)
Flareon (before gym 4)
Volcarona (right after gym 5 al lvl 35)
Litwick (before gym 6)
Numel (right after gym 6)
Then heatmor, vulpix and reshiram is all before the E4
Thats a full team of 6 before the 6th gym, in white 2 you even get a legendary Pokemon before you take on the Champion
Yeah. I agree. I'm shocked when he says Black 2 & White 2 doesn't get any better at Fire types because B2W2 has an really good amount of Fire types you can get in that game.
How come you never bring up HMs needed to get around?
Because none of the Fire types can learn Surf or Waterfall, etc. so if you've gotta get extras anyway it doesn't really matter...
Sinnoh also has Arceus (only in BDSP and only with an item and only in postgame 🙄)
Sinnoh! Why is this even a debate
I agree paldea is the best region to do a fire run
i think calling the Mono type teams is a bit misleading. when you say mono type i assume using only mono fire types so there is no STAB coverage at all.
You can do this with flying ones ?
Honestly I'm half excited/half dreading Flying because it's easily one of the most versatile types, and also happens to be everywhere! So I imagine that one will be hardest...
@@emperorcubone i started a mono flying run in Heart Gold with limitation in 515 max statistics in poke. To be honest, in Johto, apart from Whitney, Chuck and the ice gym leader, there are no strong enemies with super-effective movements.Whitney was easy, Chuck was very difficult, and my save was reset
Aww yeah let's go
Infernape is all you need to sweep a DPP game
BDSP it get Thunder Punch too.
I find it funny how fire type bcame such a great offense but also a great def. the most balance of the type
The most RPG the fire type will be similar to ice type., glass canon.
It's true! I didn't even mention that the newer games are even better for Fire because they resist Steel and Fairy now too!
Your powerpoints are interesting but I really have to set the speed to 1.75x because you speak super slow.
Definitely Pokémon go
I mean... you're not wrong. I got so many Slugmas I don't even want...
@@emperorcubone you can get so many Pokémon, and just wait for sunny weather to get plenty of fire types
I wouldn't really consider Terastalizing to get a different Pokemon for your monotype team cheating. I mean, are we going to consider 7 out of 8 of the gym leaders cheaters?
I mean, we've seen plenty of gym leaders cheat over the years with illegal Pokemon below their evolution level, so why not?
@@emperorcubone I guess, but this is something the player can reasonably recreate themselves.
