- OneFour are a controversial Australian drill group originating from Mount Druitt in Western Sydney. They gained worldwide recognition in 2019 with their gritty and authentic portrayal of life in the suburbs and their connection to gangs and the postcode wars.
Recently they were the subject of a Netflix documentary, nominated for an ARIA award and their music videos continue to go viral.
Culture Editor Osman Faruqi explains exactly who they are, why the NSW police have targeted hip hop acts and what the group are doing now.

The media make these guys into something their not, Ok a few of them went to jail over a fight. Thats about it. They are not serious criminals and NO ONE in sydney takes this lot seriously, except the media, making them out to be something their not and then the young fellas out their look up to them and follow their music, that talks about commiting crimes they never did but you can be sure that these young fellas listening will go and commit these crimes, Is it just me or am I the only one that see's the link between Drill music coming to Australia and the upsurge in youth crime and the media is not helping by glorifying these guys. Listen to what Im about to say, When I grew up I was influenced by people like Tupac and Eazy E and that led me to a life of crime, this generation has more in common with the people that are influencing them because they walk like them, talk like them and dress like them more than an American that influenced me. Drill music is killing our youth. STOP IT or pay the price.
Shut up, kids will commit crimes despite listening to drill music or not, at the core of it, starts with parenting and bad parenting leads to kids running free without the worry of consequences. If anything Onefour shows kids who are growing up in particular areas of struggle that if they decide to follow and find alternative paths they can be successful too. It’s easy to blame them and drill music as whole for youth crime but the reality is that todays society lacks responsibility when it comes to youth crime. Parents need to teach their kids right from wrong and show them that their behaviour has consequences. Simple
