My co-workers buy Mac Book Pro, I buy T480s. My first laptop was a T20 with a Pentium III running Win98. I kept it all this time, sitting on my lap right now. The keyboards still feel the same. Takes me back to the old days as an IT Pro now for 20 years.

I just got the T480s with the i7 and MX150..... and the WQHD panel... and this thing is very impressive. I didn't care for a touch screen on a business laptop... but I did care about getting a good *non glossy* panel for content creation (with close to 100% srgb). I absolutely don't regret going for it. I initially was looking for an X1, but the dedicated gpu option + memory slot + sd card reader on the 480s were the things that pushed me toward the T480s.

How are the thermals when watching RUclips and web browsing? I heard alot people complain that it gets hot even when the laptop is at idle with no apps opened.

    • @robertbalazs5279

@@justarandomlol I have the integrated graphics version and it gets around 60-65 degress when watching RUclips videos and fan kicks in and goes back to around 55. Also normal web browsing get get up to 60. Fans frequently on and off. Except this behavior (can be handled with 3rd party apps to run at low rmp constantly) I'm really satisfied with the machine. I'm Ubuntu with KDE Plasma, and it is fast as hell.

I was looking for a good used laptop and the ThinkPad T480s caught my eye and I saw an affordable one. Then I looked some more and found a couple of deals that could be said to be even better. But as that dawned on me, I felt a tug in my heart. I couldn't let go of the ThinkPad. The look speaks to me. It looks so likeable. I'm gonna go after it even though it might not be as good a deal objectively.

Coming from Macbook Pro user of 10yrs.

It's going very strong. No issues. All I would say is to choose the higher battery capacity since the middle option has a bump as well as the biggest capacity. If you don't want a bump, then get the first option.
Other than that.. everything is going good.

Would the T480s i5, 8th generation, with 16gb RAM, and 256SSD, be a decent used laptop in 2023, used mainly for online classes? I've had good experience with Lenovo before for work, so now I'm considering this used/refurbished laptop for my kids online classes.

If it's not too late I strongly advise you to go with the thinkpad. I got an XPS 15 9570 and had it replaced 3 times, shit customer support and shit quality control. Poor speaker & keyboard quality and a lot of other small issues, just don't do it to yourself, trust me.

My dell XPS 9560 got the infamous battery expansion problem making the touchpad unusable and agree with kiwwiz, dell support is totally useless. They wanted me to reset to factory settings to “prove” that it’s not a software issue (even though it’s pretty obvious now that the touchpad is protruding) before sending it to the depot....for 2-3 weeks. Also good luck finding a battery replacement; they don’t sell it. That’s why I’m watching this vid lol

It supports hd encryption, secure boot, vpro management, option for 4g LTE, easy to customize and deploy for it management, It's light but powerfull for productivity apps, it last about 8 hours on one charge, its got the best laptop keyboard, plenty of ports, secure digital print reader with hardware security chip, the keyboard is waterproof and back-ligthed, it has plenty of ports and even a native ethernet with extra dongle for mac adressing and pxe/bootp/... support, military spec solidity, very lightweight so easy to cary in a bag, and so on. It's built like a tank, you can drop it, flood it.
