My friend and I were doing the cup song in a weird way and the boys at my table were rating who did better in lunch. This very strict teacher that usually reminded me of Umbridge went up to our table and snatch the cups. Then she started doing the cup song at first slowly, then started doing it fast like a freaking legend. And then left with no words. Then the boys said both my friend and I lost, while Umbridge won hands down. It was so funny but now I’m gonna show Umbridge who is boss.

Interesting, your version is slightly different than the one I learned. The beats are the same, but we tapped on the top of the cup instead of the table. I've also seen a longer variation (which is actually what I've been looking around trying to learn, but it's a hard thing to search for!)

At first, I was surprised that you did four claps when you got to "Table, table."
But then, later, when you sped it up a bit (starting at 1:48), you stopped doing four taps and only did three. That is what I do, and what I expected to begin with.
So if you watch and listen from 1:48 on, every time you do that part you (and the other person later) actually only tap three times: "Clap, clap -- Table, tay -- Clap, up, down ..."
Nevertheless, I appreciate you doing it with the action words.
By the way, I use these words:
Clap, clap -- One, two, three --
Clap, up, down --
Clap, grab, pop, down --
Switch, slap, pass.

Thank you! Someone showed my kids the cup rhythm recently, and I was trying to explain to them that long before Anna Kendrick (who they didn't know 😂) made the cup song, we used to do it all around the cafeteria table! We learned it in a slightly different way, tapping on the cup rather than on the table. It was for a show in middle school

I heard and saw the 'cup song' for the first time yesterday at my grandsons' school music music show, I have learnt how to do it now, it will be my 'party piece'' I am 83 years old.
In the music video, Anna does only 3 taps in the first half. As in Clap, Clap, Ta-ble, TA, Clap, Up, Down.
The extra beat doesn't seem to make much of a difference, but it's confusing when there's two different versions.
