When you have to come to terms with the fact that someone's entire life is crystalized into a few tears that you might shedfor someone you never really knew. This is a human being. Someone's whose life impacted the lives of countless people around the same age as you. Just knowing that everything they ever were has been condensed into a few verses of a song that might play at the funeral of a person they never met. Life is fucking terrible and wonderful. I love you, Andy Wood.
Martin Bass most people sont even have that after they die. Lifes a beautiful struggle. Just take it as a bonus that we get to wake up another day. Because death is the only thing ur guaranteed once u come outta that womb. So it's not foreign to us, it's in our nature.
@@leeellenwood5461 live for today.... not tomorrow. We only have the present. Might not make it to the next day . Live every day like its your last or youll wish for the past
Andy Wood was a ROCK STAR he had mad talent and this song is a masterpiece ! Andy had a fatal flaw , some people can deal with addiction but sadly Andy couldn't if he would have lived he would have put out some truly great music , sad the good die young ! RIP Andy your music lives forever !
wow I havent heard this for 20 odd years. this era of music had a huge influence on who Ive become as a growed -up. so many amazing teenage memories come flooding back. so many good high school friends I've lost touch with. This music was our bond. brings happy tears to my eye. thank you Andrew, such a great musician.
No one could ever replace Andrew, breaks my heart when I think about how we lost him way too soon. Andrew lives on in his music and our hearts. I'm so thankful I was a teenager in the 90s, back when music was real not made by some shitty talent show winner !!!
the prophetic words in this song gives me chills "Say he who rides a pony (heroin) must someday fall, Been talkin' to my alter, Say life is what you make it, And if you make it death well then rest your soul away"
in their new documentary stone said that he would sing to crowds of like 10 people like it was a colesseum. hed be like, FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE IN THE BACK!!! XD
This has got to be one of the most under-rated bands I have ever heard. How is it that this song only has 60k views, while lesser songs such as hunger strike have more than 200k?!
@Taurusaud awesome. so glad you enjoyed it.. I agree, Scot Barbour did an amazing job on it. hope it gave you more of an insight on some of the questions you had.
Every time I hear this song I still have to wonder what if Andrew had not ODed, so much more Love he had in him to give to us all,....Seattle sound came from him
If Andrew lived either he'd be the lead singer of pearl jam or pearl jam would have never formed and mother love bone would have been the legendary band instead of pearl jam
@imajeepster It isnt hard to find..its on amazon.com, itunes...etc. It was just released a couple of months ago. The DVD has SOOOO much footage... plus extra bonus footage...its just amazing..its not seeing him live.. but you wont get any closer. It seriously took days to look thru everything.
anyone think A.W was a huge black sabbath fan...ya think? that documentary was really fun to watch...the best scene was when eddie vedder sings this song with clips of Andy wood intercut.. It was like he was channeling him...great scene and made you think of all the losses of that era....
@BelladonnaCure If i can find it, i will thanks. He was so charismatic, great stage presence, wrote amazing songs, i wish i'd gotten to see him perform live!
Weird I was reading about the damage of Crown of Thorns starfish when this song came on through a playlist. They eat coral reefs and are actually more abundant thanks to shell collectors taking their main predator. Next to us they are the biggest harm to one of the most bio-diverse ecosystems out there. I just thought it was a cool coincidence.
@lorddrewsus The term "grunge" is something the media invented. Hardly any legitimate artist coming out of Seattle at the time would have labeled their music "grunge". The term "grunge" is only used by wanna-bes and squares.
emidore been trying to tell all these 20-somethings that shit for yrs. They all just discover this or AIC and say "grunge music rules." Media/fan created term. No Seattle band ever referred to themselves as grunge.
Its amazing someone ur age feels that way, most music nowadays is garbage, because the game has changed and big labels and corporate decides most things for huge acts. Freedom of expression has been slowly making way for the crap u see like niki minaj, jay-z, lady gaga and the rest of the puppets. And what controls big label and corporate? Thats right Money!
@Taurusaud Interesting...I think he knew the odds were against him in that industry... i personally dont think he glamorized it as much as feared it. As for his joking about it..that was classic for Andy to use humor when things got too intense..yet on the flip side..it seems writing/music was the only way for him to communicate what was going on in his head. Go check out the newly released DVD Malfunkshun The Andrew Wood Story. It will pretty much fill in all the blanks for ya. :)
I was never convinced this was a great band. Alot of hype and famous in Seattle but outside of Washington State, theses guys were nobodies. But I must say this is a great well written song, probably their best. Pearl Jams cover is actually really good.. Eddie sounds like hes in pain singing it...That makes it even better.... The dead lead singer seemed like he should of been in Motley Crue, not a grunge band. He never really seemed to match with this band. But he was a showman, thats for sure
@Gio7520 sorry about the Axl comment. It was tongue in cheek actually, being a huge GnR fan Ive been forever bitter by the way axl turned out. Nice having a cordial exchange w/ya.
@hellraiser7874 True. Some people just don't know how to take others opinions, views, and stay cool... and like you said "It's not we've offended your momma". Btw, it's not a dude who said Andy kinda reminds of Axl, it's a girl haha (it was my first time listening to Andy, and well, I don't have to explain myself). People just need to come together & enjoy the awesome real music (that's the main purpose of music after all) & leave the bitchin behind.
I find it funny that most if not all of these comments where made once PJ20 was released, all you fucking bandwagoners ;) Not complaining or anything :) Infact i like being able to take pride that I knew of this song before PJ20, but happy to see some fresh new people taking a liking to classic bands :)

Thats heavy. Deep. True.
Chris Cornell said Andy was the first real star he had ever met..💔💋🖤💜
Like a shooting one..... hits fast but don't last?
There will never be anyone like Andrew Wood again. A star stopped shining. RIP Andrew Wood 💐 You are so missed each and every day and night.

They may be dead in the physical form, but they all live on through there work.
This is a very special, unique and precious musical treasure to me. Thank you MLB Thank you Andy Wood.

And blues.
amazing song so many years later
The flatline of the heart monitor in the solo is haunting with foreshadowing
The documentary is awesome... it really opened me up to mlb's music.
World class. No two ways about it.
the prophetic words in this song gives me chills "Say he who rides a pony (heroin) must someday fall, Been talkin' to my alter, Say life is what you make it, And if you make it death well then rest your soul away"

This has got to be one of the most under-rated bands I have ever heard.
How is it that this song only has 60k views, while lesser songs such as hunger strike have more than 200k?!
Hunger strike was a tribute to Andy by Chris. How does that make it less? Educate yourself
I'm not a big fan of the late '80s/early '90s Seattle music scene, but... damn, this is good!
the eddie vedd version reminded me of when i was young with my wife before we had kids. happy tears
@Taurusaud awesome. so glad you enjoyed it.. I agree, Scot Barbour did an amazing job on it. hope it gave you more of an insight on some of the questions you had.
epic, after so many years, still sounds raw and fresh
Every time I hear this song I still have to wonder what if Andrew had not ODed, so much more Love he had in him to give to us all,....Seattle sound came from him

I've known of this band & song looooong before PJ20 was released, but watching it made even more appreciate of this song & this band.

Andrew Wood was a true rocker
I love this song!! PJ rocks and never forgot there roots.
Oh Andy...if only...perhaps the best ever...
I LOVE THIS SONG AND ANDY'S VOICE, I GET CHILLS ITS SO BEAUTIFUL. EDDIE IS BRILLIANT BUT ANY IS HAUNTING. WHAT A LOSS.....

this is so stupid, hearing all your comments, andy and eddie are both excellent singers! and thank god for them both!!!!!!
That is so true we should show them both respect for what they have given to us amazing and awesome music
Andrew Wood was meant to sing to crowds of thousands..
Can't have Crown of Thorns without Chloe Dancer! I know it's like that on the album, but... Ah anyway RIP Andy.
we miss you Andy

@18Leashh Yeah, this is one of the best moments in movie.
It's a shame too. If no one mentioned it no one would've done it just to spite 'em.

@Konjoism niothing's wrong with that... actually eddie (and 90% of the future grunge rockers) admired Andrew Wood...
nastalgic for me
