- What an amazing looking flower! In this video, I show you how you can propagate the beautiful Tiger's Eye Abutilon! Some people call it a Chinese Lantern, but it is actually a type of Flowering Maple.
Thank you! Good video, easy to see & understand.
Try using curly willow water in your propagation. It’s magical. Put a willow branch in your propagation bucket, instead of root hormone.
Luv your accent brother, great idea with the perlite, i use vermiculite the same way but keeps it more moist for when i forget. i also put in a clear plastic box and the humidity really helps them out, i get higher success rates with the cuttings. i put about ten in a box and get almost all of them to root.
cool, the hurricane knocked my 2 over so i got lots of cuttings , i replanted them and they're starting to come back. they are alot tougher than i had given them credit for
Very helpful video. How long did you leave them in the perlite before planting in soil? I live in Central California away from the coast so our temps match yours but it’s not humid here. I’m about to try this!
Usually about 2 to 3 weeks to get some good roots going
Thank you s much for sharing this .. I keep seeing them in flower (different colours) when I walk around the neighbourhood and wondered what they were, then google search brought me here .. I'm going to ask if I can take some cuttings and give this a go!
so glad you found this! such an amazing plant! thank you for the kind comment😁
new growth, soft, no flower bud, 4-6” got it thank you!!
good luck!!
Thank you for sharing.
can you use potting mix to propagate them? I have never used these fine grained rocks before
Depends on your potting soul, make sure its not packed tight, putting soil tends to get dense when you water it
Mine bloom through the winter!
Hi, what time of year can you do a cutting !!! . I have a beautiful plant on my balcony. It only gets afternoon Sun and it seems to be doing well . I love this plant blooms all year long !.
I'd say anytime you have active new growth, like between june and September would probably be best. It's still very warm here in October so I may be tempted to test how late I can do it here (AL 8b)
hi , I live in England the weather some time down to -1 or -3 degrees , is this plant will be okay with that ?
if the tree getting too tall can we cutting down at mother trunk ?
waiting to hear from you and thank you very much for your help
As far as i know this tree does not like that low of a temperature so its best to bring inside for the winter and bring it out in the late sping and fall. But i could be wrong
Is abutilon perennial?
it is here in zone 9, we used to be 8, so I doubt any lower than 8
Just osm beautiful 👌👌👌👌
Is it necessary to leave leaves in cuttings?
You can definitely minimize the number of leaves but i believe it is better to leave a couple for photosynthesis to take place to create energy for root formation quicker. I know when rooting woody Cuttings there are no leaves and it uses stored up energy so i guess either way would work
Thank you ❤
What brand of perlite are you using? I stopped using perlite from miracle grow because it has peat moss mixed in it. Im trying to find pure perlite. Thanks for doing this video.
Thanks so much for checking out the video! The brand of perlite I have is Vigoro. It's at local Home Depot here in lower Alabama.
I am in zone 8a-8b my abutilon is very tall with leaves only at the top. Can I trim it back to get knew growth at the bottom. I keep it indoors during cold weather.
definitely, we recently had a terrible hurricane [Sally] I had to cut mine back alot and it has really come back very full and nice in the last few weeks, but now caterpillars attacking all the new tender growth
How much for the cuttings?
What temperature can they handle in winter and summer?
so sorry i missed this. Mine have lived through several freezes. in the teens, also on the high end we get high humidity 90s
Bro what about the airleyering grafting method
Is it possible on these plants?
I've never tried that method, but being woody,i think it would totally work
Why I asked is I did airleyering grafting on most of my hibis plants
80% succeeded but this veriety looks different and very exotic in our place Any way I try this too. Thank u sir for ur quick response
@@umapaul7042 just a note, these do fine on full sun on a southern wall in south Alabama, so they're pretty tough. i also have several in partial shade. they bloom mostly in Fall
Thank u sir for ur note iam from Chennai Tamilnadu Here summers are more I am growing allmy plants on open terrace garden So far so good let me also try this in the same way God bless you
Yes. Air layering works for them
Do you sell them?
I plan to when i get enough
I would love to buy some when available. I lost mine in last years freeze in South Y
