Unfortunately “slurring” is a type of way of communicating, usually when someone is under the influence of a few drugs and most notably alcohol. We’ve warped the meaning of “slurs”

Slur comes from slurry and refers to really wet messy mud. It was then used as a way to say someone had been disparaged in reference to how the wet mud would get everywhere. Slur as in a way of speaking is the newest meaning by hundreds of years and refers back to the mud. It isnt even an advancement in meaning from the earlier usage.
