The beach is back. Looking fabulous! The benefit of the old sea walls collapsing is that they are all new now! It’s a much better walk now. New pools as well..

So I appreciate Mr Hale's update as my family has vacationed in DBS every year since 03. No disrespect, but I am gonna throw evidence at some of his claims. The beach ramp at 00:29 is Demotte Ave between Surf Club and White Surf condos. At 00:50 he points to the paint and mentions that's where the sand used to be. Nope. That's where the ramp's pavement used to be. See where the paint curves at the corner? The pavement curved there too and that's where it met the sand. Check Google Maps Street view. At the corner where the paint curve ends, that's how much sand eroded. Looks like 2.5 feet to me.
At 1:47 he looks at a barrier that stands 10-feet high and declares that 10 feet of sand used to be there. Nope. See the beach posts a few feet from that wall? They weren't buried under 10 feet of sand and suddenly exposed by erosion from Nicole. They were there pre-Nicole too. Go to 3:28 and look at where the paint on the sea wall is. That's how much sand was removed. Again, 2 - 3 feet. That's still significant, but it's not close to 10 feet.
Mr. Hale makes several comments about the inevitability of several storms that will hit the Daytona coast this Fall. Anything is possible, but history shows Volusia rarely ever gets 1-2 punches like Ian and Nicole in 2022. My family is going back to DBS in August to 'donate' to the economic recovery. The sand will be lower and high tide will come closer to the beach wall. We're ready. Gonna play Len's 'Steal My Sunshine' and enjoy the beach.

We vacationed at Daytona Shores in April of this year. A lot has been done since then. We had a wonderful holiday and it was nice to support the people of Florida after what they went through. What the video does not mention is that what used to be a very affordable place to vacation is now a real “Bargain”. Most of the businesses have recovered and their are lots of hotels and Condos that were not severely damaged and worth going to. There have been major hurricanes before and Florida will recover and rebuild the best beach in North America.

What a horrible video to come across. Florida residents rely on tourism and you’re advertising to people not to come to our beaches because there are patches of damage here and there from last year’s hurricanes? I was just in Daytona last week, plenty of people were there with me laying out on the sand enjoying themselves. How about instead of bashing the city for something outside of their control, you support local businesses to help get them back up on their feet after having to pay for all the repairs.
And P.S. hurricane season started in June, a month ago. The hotels that lost their pool decks have been working their butts off to get permits approved on their sea walls so they can rebuild their decks and having to deal with Sea Turtle season (they are a protected species so when they build their nests on the beach near you, the hotels have to stop construction) and all the rain we’ve had since May, they are doing the best they can. You don’t have to go to hotels that had the worst damage that are still needing repair. But u can atleast go to the ones that had some damage that are now back fully recovered. Smh.

@@josephlalock8378 Because right now you can rent gorgeous 2-bedroom, Oceanfront condos for about 1100/wk. Not Oceanview... Oceanfront. Try doing that anywhere from Martha's Vineyard down through Flagler Beach FL. You'll pay $3K per week for Oceanfront. DBS isn't 'Daytona Beach' either, it's a lot nicer.

It's funny when I hear people say Daytona is a crappie hole. I can garuntee you have 0 clue of what a craphole is. I've lived and have seen crapholes in Baltimore, Philadelphia, bad areas in orlando and @ daytonas worst couldn't match it. Daytona is gorgeous fun and has alot of good things to it. This guy's an idiot for even posting this. Ungrateful people. Unbelievable

Kind of a deceptive headline on your video. There was a lot of damage...but things are getting repaired. It's going to take awhile too..but it's still a beautiful area. Those two hurricanes, one right after the other were an extreme event.

I spent my summers in Daytona Beach growing up in the 90s, back when spring break used to be there, Boardwalk had tons of arcades, shops, restaruants, there were go-cart tracks you could ride. Now I see even the pier no longer has the chair lifts. Add to that the beach being washed away, heartbreaking, so many memories there. When I lived there in the mid 2000s boardwalk was pretty empty overall, no more go-cart tracks, no more arcades, chairlifts weren't in use, now they're all gone. Worlds most famous beach?

That's insane I stayed in the condo in the beginning the year before last and the condo next to that one, with the blue roof and anchor. I can't believe how bad that looks. It was such a beautiful area. And crabby joes pier is terrible. We loved that restaraunt.

Daytona is a terrible area, dangerous, overpriced, dilapidated. It was a decent beach town decades ago but they let that city go for into decay for too long.

As a kid, in the ‘60’s, before all the big condos we stayed at a motel that was like duplexes. Just single story building that was family owned and they kept their units and grounds in prestige condition. Then in the ‘80’s, I was married, and we went for the “Firecracker 400” race in July. By then the chain motels had moved in forcing the smaller places out. We always enjoyed Daytona back then. It was nice and clean and the police didn’t allow no sh*t. I’ve not been there in 26 years now, but it’s my understanding that it’s run down quite a bit now and crime ( like in the rest of America) has run rampant. I have no desire to go back now since my parents are gone, my wife is gone and I’m now 70. I just hold on to the good memories I had of our times in Daytona.
