Great video!! Thank you for the work you do in preserving history on some of the things we once cherished in our lives like our shopping malls. I much rather shop in malls versus online shopping. There’s no greater way to shop than trying on clothes, shoes, smelling perfume, looking at physical media forms like books, music, movies, games, and actually eating inside a building with people around. To me there’s nothing in comparison. Like most everyone here, there’s a bit of nostalgia growing up walking through these concourses and corridors. Thank you for your videos.

I've lived in Reidsville my whole life and it's a shame what this has turned into. I remember in the mid 90s it was still a fun place to be. Even had an arcade and a comic book shop. And I'm not sure how many times, but in the 90s they actually had a small fair with rides in the Belk side parking lot. I have alot of happy memories there. And to add to the sadness a bit, right behind it is what used to be a Winn Dixie that has been vacant since it closed down. I wish someone could do something with that whole area but I doubt that'll ever happen.

When I see this space I ONLY see potential. Its not too huge. It's fixable. A food hall. Smaller pop up shops restaurants with Cafe seating in the concourse. Escape rooms. Game rooms. Bowling with food and beer.

I used to live in Reidsville, and still visit yearly for family. This place was a dump in the late 90s and it's only gotten worse. Literal holes in the roof that water pours through when it rains. Interesting to see Bob Adams Florist is still in that building as they have been there forever. I guess there's enough older people in Reidsville that keeps the Belk afloat. I remember going into Roses in 2007 and seeing extremely faded Sega Genesis cartridge port cleaners dating back to 1993 displayed prominently on an aisle endcap. Funny too, that little fighter jet ride was something I rode on when I was 4 (I'm 38 now). The roof is by far the worst part of the building, and the mold is atrocious.

The Eden Mall finally has closed, and has been converted into a large consignment antique store where Belks used to be, some unrented office suites in the middle, and a granite countertop manufacturing company where K-Mart formerly was. I don't think malls can even exist today, due to changing customer needs and Walmart and Amazon offering the same things at much lower prices. I remember when the Eden Mall first opened, with three large department stores, four jewelry stores, two toy stores, one cafeteria, and around five shoe stores. The mall even had a store that sold nothing but cameras. The mall was doomed from the start, because it was "more mall than a small town really needed."

None of that looks creepy to me, it looks sad and neglected without all the people or stores in it. I think of all the moments of people just killing time walking through looking at all the stuff for sale, the teenagers who went on first dates there or parents going to get christmas gifts for their kids. Places like that just seem to echo a longing for people to come back and give it life again rather than become some sort of haunted house.

Surprisingly, a lot of Reidsville businesses look completely dead outside but are actually full of people when you go in. It's anticipated that the current conversion of Route 29 to Interstate 785 is going to bring in a lot more industry. In the past, a lot of major companies have decided NOT to break ground on new facilities because Reidville was not located on an Interstate. I'm pretty sure my neighbor just purchased one of the adjoining buildings and turned it into a climate-controlled storage facility.

It doesn't blow my mind that the Reidsville mall still exists. I can't speak of Reidsville itself since I've never been there, but I have been to Chesterfield, just outside of Morganton. There's some areas like that where a mall like this is pretty much a requirement to have for locals because otherwise, there's not much in the way of shopping unless they want to go out of town with a drive of a half hour or more, and that'd be a one way trip.

I enjoyed the walk and talk and the opening music. I have lots of copyright strikes but I've never been monetized so I thought it wouldn't matter and YT says deleting the video doesn't fix the issue. I've got over a hundred videos that I uploaded for fun with about 20 copyright strikes. Stay safe out there. 😁👍

Bob Adams, Belk, Roses and Straders Shoes have been there forever. I moved to Reidsville back in 1980 and they were there. I used to go there all the time back then.

You moved here the year before I was born. I went riding around with a girl last week not from here and was just mind blown at how much this place has changed since I was a kid in the 80’s.

Hello again, Ace, from a fellow Buffalo Niagara guy. Definitely a zombie mall. Half alive, half dead. I'm very surprised that there is essentially no dividing line between what is falling apart and what is still essentially open. Definitely a different set of standards down there or at least in this area. Please keep us updated on this one! I love all of your videos. This is pretty much the only Dead mall video channel I go to.

Anthony, another great video. I always like the music you use. Seeing this old school mall stuck in time was awesome. I like how you kept this video basic, it really made you experience this mall as if we were their right with you. Excellent job!

The brown looking shack was a food shack, I remember as a kid they had the red and blue icee as well as muffins and peanuts all that good stuff. The department store beside it was catos. And that one stop cellular was a shoe show long time ago. I'm 36 years old now it's terrible to see how much this mall has gone down.

Has to be one of the top 10 liminal spaces of all time, and a monument to laziness.

Why doesn’t the town step in and condemn the building or fine the owners? Just for safety reasons alone, someone needs to do something. No one is going to rent a store in its current state. Liked the history in the beginning and then raw thoughts without the editing. Nice change!

Plenty of dead and dying malls in Atlanta also. Even now there is one mall being torn down to make way for a mixed use community. Malls may one day be a picture slide show our kids will find unbelievable. Todays kids only value Amazon deliveries. Anyone still have a a cassette tape or their Blockbuster card? Still got a typewriter from the 70s that still works.

Great video! I have to say, the shots showing the lit up part of the mall leading to the dark parts was so unsettling. Here in the Dallas area, many of the malls I grew up with are getting "re-imagined" as shopping centers or fancy apartments. It's fascinating from the perspective of a former 80s kid that so many malls are still standing even though they are abandoned.

The lose of malls is a self-destructive behavior. The 3rd place, a place that isn't home or work, is needed for society to remain human.

Lol what all our technology has done to the simple, bedrock, nostalgic times of America. Instead of face to face interactions with people, we now are reduced to a mouse click on our computer and a tap on our phones. Sad really as I remember the malls being full from the later 60's to early 90's.

The City should be able to condemn the building and take possession. I don’t like the idea in general but when some New York real estate group is taking the lease money and not keeping up with maintenance on the property that is just a commercial slum lord.

I was born and raised in Reidsville, I remember in the 80s when I was a kid going to Pennrose mall, it was always full of people back then. Hibbett sports used to be Eckard drug, it had a lunch counter we used to eat at all the time. I still live in Reidsville but I never go to the mall anymore. Lol. But thanks for the nostalgic walk through my childhood.

I live in Reidsville and this always upsets me. In the 80's it was great. The Peanut Shack was the place to get popcorn or cookies and my favorite cherry coke icee. Sure do miss the good ole days.

I watched to the end, to see if you got locked in😂. 2 hours north? If your family is in charlotte, we had one here similar. Everyone on the West Side did their shopping there in the 80s. Teens hung out there. Ice cream shop and a peanut Shack facing each other.. and I swear just about every pretty girl I went to high school with worked at one or the other. I think target was the first big store to pull out. And when nothing filled their footprint, it started to trickle down. The smaller chains left. It ended up being a bunch of privately owned businesses in a low rent space, surrounded by a lot of vacancy. I'm not sure it ever got to the mold and dilapidation. The whole property got turned into government offices several years ago
