I really feel that most of the time is the timing for this announcement that cause the real problem, is they show her a week or month later after they release the game this would be much better in terms of impressions
So if it was a timing and adjustment issue to get Tira into the game, yet now they’ve managed to work it out so that she’s day one DLC, why not simply give her to everyone for free?

As am I. After the mess that was Soul Calibur 5, nickle and diming customers on 6 is quite jarring. This game should be trying everything it can to get fans back into the franchise, and it was doing a good job until that reveal.
It wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't day one DLC. That just feels like a slap in the face. At least as a pre-order bonus she would kind of be "free" in a way. It also sucks because she's one of my favourite characters.
Obfuscating bad business practices as giving the consumers what they want is hardly something new or something that should be applauded or supported. It's shit like this that makes me think twice about buying games day one and more often than not wait for eventual release of the complete package.

I hate the excuse one of their pr dudes made during gamescom. They say she should cost extra because she was done late in development, and it pulls extra funds to put her in the game. But they expect us to eat that crap when we know companies don't hire extra people the moment they decide to add extra changes late in development. The people putting Tira into the game are people who are already being payed as employees of Namco's dev studios, not as devs SPECIFICALLY FOR TIRA. The game is more than a month from release, so the only reason for her being DLC is so they can milk us.
No because games are already finished in development 2 months before released, so that they can be burned into disk and sent out. That's how it is with most games in general. There in the publisher phase at that point. Okubo mentioned this in a interview with kayane. **So she didn't make the cut like they said to be base roster**

I was never upset about Tira being DLC, I always said since this game covers SCI and SCII that Tira being in the base roster wouldn't make sense. Props to Motohiro Okubo for explaining why Tira was DLC, so many fans were angry and ungrateful and here he comes saying that he wanted Tira to be included, but without the adjustments being made she wouldn't have made the cut to begin with.
Two issue with what you said. First she did make the cut, she will be playable on day one. Second don't call customer ungrateful because they have issue with the policy of a company. Nobody blaming Motohiro, we're blaming Namco.
If u played SC3 u would remember that hwang and some other characters were not in the main story but they were in the game, so no excuses whatsoever, they just want more money, just like Tekken, now they have season 2 out of nowhere with two old characters Anna and Lei, I call this stealing.
Then how do you explain Zasalamel being in the main roster then? he was only introduced in Soul Calibur 3 just like Tira, but he isn't a DLC character, they clearly removed her in the last second and decided to make her a DLC character for extra money.

And keep in mind, making a game is very expensive, they need to earn more money than what is cost to make the game, otherwise we won't get any more of them. All the money they make goes to paying the team that works day and night to make this game for you all, and of course to fund their next project. And people will make the excuse that: With the technology they have, making games is much easier so that's not excuse. WRONG! If anything making games is harder now than it was back in the days thanks to all the new graphics. One face animation can take weeks to finish so they burn a lot of cash when they make a game. Not to mention it cost money to even get all the equipment and programs that are being used to make the game. At the end of the day, the company spends much more money on the game than any of us do. Yet some people are cheep enough to even pirate games which is a clear sign they do not appreciate the hard work the developers put in just so people can have fun. I am not going to pretend I like DLC, especially before the game is out. But at least try to remember the amount of money you have to pay for the game is nothing compared to what the developers have to pay to make it.

How popular Tira is is not important. She's fully developed and could be in the base game but the developer is asking for more money for her anyways. If you have no problem with this you're either extremely wealthy or just plain dumb. If she happens to not be fully developed then this was a major misstep by the company as they made it seem like she was.
Bandai Namco sets a time schedule and a budget for the release of the game. Tira is not going to be in the game initially, she is not in the budget. They proceed to make the game given the original timeframe + budget. The producer knows Tira is popular and sees a ton of fans requesting her, hoping she'll be there. He goes to the dev team and prompts them to create her - he says they had to make complex changes so there has to be something about her moveset where they had to tweak something deeper in the core programming to make it work, physics, something. Now they have not only the workload of a new character (which is a lot) but also whatever other changes need to be made to accomodate her. They have to do this on the same initial budget, the higher ups of Bamco won't allot extra funds so they demand the work done on her is repaid via charging for her as DLC. Also, the dev team worked hard and did not get her done on time to be on the disc in time for production, but will finish her beffore the official release. Makes sense to me. I don't have a problem with it, and I can assure you I am not wealthy. I don't think the reasoning is far out there so I don't feel dumb these assumptions either.
@@NovenariPrime what you're saying doesn't make any sense. Timeframe is essentially budget as they're paying their own employees. If they have extra time then they came in under budget and can afford to add more charcters. Instead, the company decides that users should have to pay more. If they finished within their original timeframe then they were planning to finish dlc before release all along.
It was a mistake to reveal her at this time and as they did, project soul isn't to blame though as pr is done by Namco executives Tira bad her model animation and VA done but wasn't properly polished and synched as the rest of the cast in time for the disc printing but enough to create a trailer for her. This has been done for other character trailers as well as we see in Kiliks trailer his Va was absent for several of his standard attacks
I was pissed that Lei wasn't in Tekken 7 at launch but still bout the game and season pass on day 1 (with the pre-order giving me Aliza as well). I have enjoyed the game so far and am excited to play the weird looking new Lei soon! With that being said, I understand frustration over current day practices with games as a whole, and especially fighting games where we have to pay extra for what we used to get standard through unlocks as rewards for playing the games. I'm just a huge Soul Calibur fan as I am Tekken and am excited to finally have a new release which looks to redeem the mess that V was. I am however choosing to wait it out some and see what the final roster is and how the season 1 dlc turns out given I'm not a tournament or pro fighter. Either way let's enjoy this if the game turns out as good as it looks and as people who've played builds as HBTW have say it is! #SC6
I'm not happy with the direction Tekken 7 has taken. People shouldn't have to pay extra to play as their favorite characters. The base game lacks enough content the way it is.
A lot of people are really upset about this, but there are two things, one is that she's gonna be in the game which is better than nothing, and also Tira being dlc makes more sense to me than someone like taki or sophitia being dlc. Tira is very popular, but she's not important enough to be included in the main game. I for one am glad that she made it into this game regardless of her being dlc
Yea i agree she’s not really integral to the main plot (not that SC plot is really that well thought out or great imo) but I would say that given that the development team slided her in last minute it makes sense she is DLC. I do agree though that announcing her as a dlc BEFORE finishing the main roster showcase was not a good move it looks like it’s hurting SC6’s hype quite a bit which is not a good thing for the series especially at this point when it’s trying to rejuvenate itself.
Not to mention that Taki and Sophitia were present during the events of SC-1 and 2. Zasalamel was added because of the whole time thing so Namco needed to expand the SC-1 story and felt he was a good idea for it.
I haven't pre ordered the game because I can't yet, I'm on pc. I wanted the season pass, but now I'm hesitant because I don't want to encourage this practice, I know I will be getting all the DLC but I hate what they did to Tira
You won't be getting all the DLC, the dev has already hinted on a second season pass, so even if you buy this season pass they will just pull a Tekken 7 and announce a second season pass and charge for that as well, I was looking forward to this game but now I can't, fucking namco...
You actually can pre-order on PC now, at least on Steam (and I believe you can get the base version through Namco's own website). The issue may be that you have to search for the game on Steam as "Soulcalibur" as opposed to Soul Calibur. I know I had that issue as it just wasn't coming up in the Steam catalog for me but as soon as I tried searching for soulcalibur without a space it found both the base version of the game as well as the deluxe version with the season pass.
IzanagiXZ They explained there would be another season pass because they want to add more characters. Also, their time and resources go into the game. No one has complained about DLC characters in other games, yet here it stands in soul calibur.
While strictly speaking I understand why they're making her DLC and all that jazz, I will say that the price of this game in particular is a bit mind boggling. 60 bux base for a fighting game + 30 bux more for the season pass kinda puts the whole thing in a different perspective for me.
I know a lot of people are upset, but on the bright side she's in and she has her own story. (I was afraid that DLC characters would not get a story but they will which is good news for me) Okubo did also acknowledge the mistake he made, so i think we should le tit go and forgive him. DLC characters getting a script is great, I hadn't heard that, although they really should have gone about it a different way, her being so complete makes it even more suspect that she's being put behind a pay wall day 1, it's pretty clear that if they'd made her pre-order DLC or day 1 patch content it would of been something of a coup & served to greatly increase the hype of the game, & that they were fully capable of doing it this way but somebody in the company made a decision not to just sucks, both for the devs & the fans.
It's just a thought but what if they tried before but it didn't work? it is also possible that by the time they got the requests the game had already gone gold so no changes could be made even if they wanted to?
games are still worked on after they've gone gold, they have day 1 patches to cover that, as often small kinks are worked out last minute, Tira is day one DLC so they could have easily put her in as free DLC, pre-order DLC or a day 1 patch addition even if they couldn't quite make the window, this is purely a business decision, & a bad one, that the head dev alluded to there being a lot of internal discussion over it might point towards a disagreement over how it's handled, to me the very best light I can put this in is the devs wanted to add Tira in that way but some part of the larger company blocked that move & they weren't able to, & that's trying to give them all the benefit of the doubt.
Except now the game is out and we know that Tira is in the game, characters use her fighting style and weapon, and she has an entire sub plot yet I as the player am not allowedactually use her unless I pay $5 for day one dlc. So that game developer was lying. Tira is literally on the disk that I already paid $60 for yet she is locked off unless I pay more money.
Seems to me this is more of a way to allow players early access to a unfinished character rather than include her into the game since alot of companies nowdays are getting backlash for releasing unfinished products

Fan Favourites locked behind a Paywall? So far only one is locked behind a pre order bonus, but plenty other fan favorites are in the main roster. And the only reason Tira is even in the game at all was because the fans demanded it. They did not even plan to put her in, she is in it because they were kind enough to listen to the fans and you can get her for free from a pre order. *NOTE*: I also hate DLCs but I don't think a whole game is ruined because of it. It's annoying but that's it and not matter what anyone says or does, DLC will never go away, those who try to force it away by not supporting a game will only make sure that no more games are made. So if anything people are just making things worse.
I agree it’s not ideal but I am happy she’s in the game, in an interview with IGN it was also stated that Tira was created near the end of Soul Calibur 6’s development cycle, and the game has to be finished about 2 months in advance, so they said they could have her be dlc for day 1, as she was not finished by the time mid August rolled around where the game was finished and being burned into disks to be shipped out. I wish she was in the main roster as well but I’m really happy she is in the game and that she is going to be launched day one, I honestly preordered the deluxe addition awhile ago so I’m glad I’ll see her day 1

I really despised the extreme individuals who were saying the game would fail or they weren't going to buy it when this started. I didn't really care but was a little annoyed by the reveal. Honestly even if Siegfried, my favorite SC character, wasn't in the game dlc or not I would still buy it.

No they are not being toxic, they are people that enjoy certain character and if those character are not in they don't want to play. In fact I have 6 main, and only one has been shown as a base character , and now one as a DLC. I really don't like the game play of most of the character. Also many people are angry at how Namco are treating us, but having a day one DLC, and showing it before the rest of the cast.

The reason they had to do this was as you said the lack of funding or market to the tira name. They built the characters with the most money then fan support to them i.e astaroth, talim, siegfried & / Nightmare. But tira has not got the momentary support to get the development team making her. This was most likely a compromise from the financial backers and okubo, by throwing her into the season pass they can make money on the character, they also get tira and okubo probably wanted tira as a default character
I think it would be wise for them to just make her free DLC, since she isn't even listed among the three DLC characters. They clearly developed her with the game's initial development budget, so making her free will not cost them any money.
I heard they couldn't add her to the game as the game was already finished and they made her as DLC last minute after realising how popular she was. Im not sure how accurate this is but it would make sense, it seems to me it could be just a case of miscommunication.
If that's the case, a better way of handling this is to have first announced that they didn't plan on including Tira in the initial roster. They would then tell the fanbase that if they REALLY wanted Tira to be included, they would have no choice but to include her as DLC following the game's release.
This... I mean... Serious question will she be free??? Because with the circumstances (edit: and ESPECIALLY his response), she should have been patched in with an update for everyone that is getting the game. Or if she really was so hard and different, sounding like a time crunch... probably should have pushed her to be a 4 DLC character with a week or 1 month tops to not rush things into the mess we have now.
Afraid however you slice it, they are literally making the customer's pay, for their misstep! Sooner than later is how we first got clones in Smash (back when they were adding in characters last min by copying already made movesets and just adjusting their speed, damage and effects.) Such Rushing also played a part Mass Effect Andromeda. Basically while development hell is a looming problem, "Sooner than later" for video games tends to be (almost) always bad for everyone. Even if Tira is fine unlike the clones, the damage of her release state has already been done
It was the timing for the Season Pass preorder bonus (you can get her without preordering the Season Pass, as long as you buy the Season Pass she is free), but she's also a stand alone for a price
@Dman Smith Nobody was really asking for Tira until after Talim was revealed back in June. At that point in time the Roster was probably already finalized.
@Dman Smith I've been asking for Tira since day one myself but the general public was almost exclusively crying out for Talim right up until she was released. Don't get me wrong, she's one of my personal favorites, but I get why they did what they did. Beside if they put fighters people didn't want as DLC it wouldn't be a very good selling point. SC6 almost didn't happen at all and if this game doesn't do well it could be the last SC game we get so regardless I'll be giving 100% support to this game and I encourage any fans of the series to do the same while keeping in mind that Development and Marketing are two separate entities and the developers hard work shouldn't ultimately be reflected by the marketing teams poor practices or miss steps. Perhaps with enough support SC7 will be given a healthy budget and we can look forward to a larger starting roster.

Holy moly, so Tira actually wasn't even supposed to be in the game! I knew trying to fit her in overly complicates things, so when she was released as a DLC character I wasn't surprised as all. Though the hasty creation of her in this game does explain the honestly boring model design she has. EDIT: Just finishing the end of the video here, and I do want to add in, while I wasn't one of those people so upset Tira was DLC to buy the game, I was one of the people who wasn't going to buy the game if Tira just hadn't been in it at all roflmao! My problem is that if the game isn't out yet, and you announce a dlc character as day one dlc. Just put them in the base roster! They're already completed enough to show footage of and they'll be available when the game releases. This is just them either making a quick cash grab or just utter laziness. She doesn't have to be significant to the story to be in the base roster. I could care less if she makes an appearance in the story or not. It's just a cash grab in the eyes of the community simply because she is being released day one as paid separate dlc. It's just stupid honestly and bad pr. If anything it's confusing to me. im dissapointed that tira is DLC, because this is the 7th game in the series (soul blade - soul calibur 6) and the roster is only 20characters including DLC, we only got 2 new characters(+1guest character). just because tira wasn't part of soul calibur 1 doesn't matter instead she can be in the base roster just absent from the story mode. Or maybe her fighting style can be used by the opponent and the character creations during the story. so in the end instead of being hyped for possible veterans to return like cassandra, dampiere, setsuka, algol, viola i'd rather see them in the base roster/ achievement unlockables. For DLC I want to be truly suprised for the DLC be new originals from the SC world or third party's (capcom, konami, disney, DC, Marvel, square-enix or something else)

Day one dlc characters always turns me off but I'll give sc6 a chance for most of the good they've already done. Okubo basically said in that iv that Tira is dlc because they made a last minute decision to include her which definitely cost extra funds. I'll probably still buy it on day 1 anyway but I seriously hope that bandai namco stop doing this shady practice.
Day one DLC just makes game developers greedy. DLC and season passes are so corrupted in practice nowadays. I miss the days where the entire game was inside a disc and players weren't forced to cough up extra cash over a patched update.

Yeah, Tira is tied for my main. This was the first game I pre-ordered in over a decade. Because you know, it's Soul Calibur, and it'll be on steam! But then I heard it was gonna have a Season Pass- my friend hit me with the "Oh yeah, your character is gonna be DLC.... Day One" I knew instantly he was talking about Tira. And that's the REAL reason I cancelled a pre-order for the first time from Amazon. I agree with your assessment, day one DLC is pretty much bullshit. And personally, I'm not so frivolous with my money, that I'm gonna drop 80-100 bucks to play two-three characters. Maybe they should have just gone "Freemium Model" if they want to be like that- then I could spend 20 and have "my entire" roster. /rant
My Confusion is...Will the Base Game have 23 characters plus Tira and the 3? Or will there be blank circles in the character select roster? Because as someone who is OCD with Video game rosters, that may bug me for a while...
solid video on it, certainly better than most on the subject, I find it's a very idiotic business decision but I respect that it was a bad Business move & is largely not the fault of the game devs, perhaps they could have fought harder for it not to be done this way but it seems apparent they at least tried
I'm wondering right now if Ciri from witcher 3 is one of the dlc characters since we have Geralt of Rivia in the roster it's really just a thought, could u imagine it though if Ciri is one of them I would be extremely excited if she's also going to be in the game
I like Tira but she doesn't give me an incentive to buy the season pass alone. While I intend to get SC6 at some point, about the only character that could make me want the game faster is Yun Seung.
Even if there are flaws in regards to character inclusions or what not, I believe in the talents of the author and producers of the game; because in the past to now, they have never disappointed me; so whether or not the characters missing will become dlcs I will have purchase, I'm okay with that and I will still buy this game. I hope if it is tru that this will be the last game for soul calibur, I hope they bring soul calibur V to PS4, because I still love that game. im actually happy shes in the game either way :) she is one of my favorite characters besides talim, however im not happy with the voice actress thats voicing her as i have gotten used to her previous voice actress voice that is my only complaint O~O as of right now
So instead of thinking, hey our fans love Tira let's make sure she's in the game by adding her as a free update (which would have made them look a lot better), instead we have, hey our fans love Tira let's use her as an incentive to buy the season pass. You can clearly see in the trailer she's practically game ready, and she will be available on day one. So they have no reason not to put her in the base roster other than for profit, sad times. First and hopefully the last time I rant about DLC, never thought it would be about SoulCalibur lol

I love Soul Calibur, been introduced to it when Soul Blade was around .. been a fan since SC2 .. Tira has been one of my top 10 characters and I rather have her as a Day One / Pre-Order DLC than her not even showing up at all. So am I mad? Nahh .. its like with Talim in my opinion, they are in later timelines so its more on the line of is this gonna show her loyalty to Nightmare / Soul Edge or is this before he took her in as his servant more than anything.
Here is the way I believe DLC practice should be done. 1. Companies should not announce or discuss anything about DLC before the release. Tell the consumer it will be happening but nothing more. 2. Companies are free to work on whatever DLC they plan to do before the game release. There is no way to stop this part of the practice but step 1 can help ease the backlash companies get. Ignorance is key sometimes. 3. Don't release DLC day. Let it sit for a minimum of 30 days before releasing anything. This gives customers the peace of mind that DLC is not content that was stripped from the base game. No matter how you handle DLC this thought will always be in consumers minds especially when it comes to fighting game characters. I know some people may say that its shady to lie to the customer but as someone who works in customer service and customer support for 2 companies please understand that its the norm.
If Tira (one of the most popular ones and people have been asking for her since the game got announced) almost didn't make it, then I'm afraid Cassandra, Setsuka, and Hilde don't stand a chance :(

The reason im dissapointed that tira is dlc is because the roster is only 20 characters without dlc and isn't really big for the 7th game in a series (soul blade -> soul calibur 6) With barely any new characters Ddddd I will tffftffþf ftt6ýþtffgtftgfggftyff I know the game is a reboot but that doesnt mean the roster has to be this small. Tira could have been in the game along with some other veterans, for the story mode you dont have to use them (limit it to there fighting styles in character creation)
apparently Tira even has a story mode included in the DLC, though that may be only a rumour I haven't verified it yet, she was active in the SC2 timeline in her backstory from 3 so it's a bit of work but entirely possible to fit her in, getting that script down may of been part of why she was difficult to add. there are a lot of misconceptions around her fsr

The hope they have different customization's for her. I really don't like her hair. I think they were going for a mix between SC3 and SC4 with a spin on a Jolly/Gloom mechanic, but it just looks wrong. I love full black hair SC4 emo Tira and SC3 blue hair punk Tira. SC6 Tira just looks like a "good girl".
Tira being dlc to me is not the issue. I would have paid for her if the game was good which I know it will be. The issue is the sudden announcement that makes it look like a game click bait. I actually kinda get it, hearing it explained this way. They know how much people want Tira, so they put Tira in. But they couldn't fit Tira in story-wise, from the sounds of it. So, rather than rewriting things unnecessarily, or massively underrepresenting her in the story, they more-or-less presented her as "non-canon" to the particular story of this game, while still including her. And to not beat around the bush, they make her a season pass bonus and standalone DLC on day one. Still not exactly thrilled about it, but that's about as good of a way as they can do it, I feel like. Not cluttering the story they've written (which means they might actually sincerely give a shit about the lore, oh my god), but still including the characters the fans want. I hate the excuse one of their pr dudes made during gamescom. They say she should cost extra because she was done late in development, and it pulls extra funds to put her in the game. But they expect us to eat that crap when we know companies don't hire extra people the moment they decide to add extra changes late in development. The people putting Tira into the game are people who are already being payed as employees of Namco's dev studios, not as devs SPECIFICALLY FOR TIRA. The game is more than a month from release, so the only reason for her being DLC is so they can milk us.
No because games are already finished in development 2 months before released, so that they can be burned into disk and sent out. That's how it is with most games in general. There in the publisher phase at that point.

I was never upset about Tira being DLC, I always said since this game covers SCI and SCII that Tira being in the base roster wouldn't make sense. Props to Motohiro Okubo for explaining why Tira was DLC, so many fans were angry and ungrateful and here he comes saying that he wanted Tira to be included, but without the adjustments being made she wouldn't have made the cut to begin with.

Then how do you explain Zasalamel being in the main roster then? he was only introduced in Soul Calibur 3 just like Tira, but he isn't a DLC character, they clearly removed her in the last second and decided to make her a DLC character for extra money.
Money is the only reason games exist in the first place. And keep in mind, making a game is very expensive, they need to earn more money than what is cost to make the game, otherwise we won't get any more of them. All the money they make goes to paying the team that works day and night to make this game for you all, and of course to fund their next project.
And people will make the excuse that: With the technology they have, making games is much easier so that's not excuse. WRONG! If anything making games is harder now than it was back in the days thanks to all the new graphics. One face animation can take weeks to finish so they burn a lot of cash when they make a game.
Not to mention it cost money to even get all the equipment and programs that are being used to make the game.
At the end of the day, the company spends much more money on the game than any of us do. Yet some people are cheep enough to even pirate games which is a clear sign they do not appreciate the hard work the developers put in just so people can have fun.
I am not going to pretend I like DLC, especially before the game is out. But at least try to remember the amount of money you have to pay for the game is nothing compared to what the developers have to pay to make it.

Yeah, im glad for Tira fans she is released anyway, but i expected she was released via DLC anyway but important is: they give that we asking and they doing great!
How popular Tira is is not important. She's fully developed and could be in the base game but the developer is asking for more money for her anyways. If you have no problem with this you're either extremely wealthy or just plain dumb.
If she happens to not be fully developed then this was a major misstep by the company as they made it seem like she was.
Bandai Namco sets a time schedule and a budget for the release of the game. Tira is not going to be in the game initially, she is not in the budget. They proceed to make the game given the original timeframe + budget. The producer knows Tira is popular and sees a ton of fans requesting her, hoping she'll be there. He goes to the dev team and prompts them to create her - he says they had to make complex changes so there has to be something about her moveset where they had to tweak something deeper in the core programming to make it work, physics, something. Now they have not only the workload of a new character (which is a lot) but also whatever other changes need to be made to accomodate her. They have to do this on the same initial budget, the higher ups of Bamco won't allot extra funds so they demand the work done on her is repaid via charging for her as DLC. Also, the dev team worked hard and did not get her done on time to be on the disc in time for production, but will finish her beffore the official release.
Makes sense to me. I don't have a problem with it, and I can assure you I am not wealthy. I don't think the reasoning is far out there so I don't feel dumb these assumptions either.

If they have extra time then they came in under budget and can afford to add more charcters. Instead, the company decides that users should have to pay more. If they finished within their original timeframe then they were planning to finish dlc before release all along.

It was a mistake to reveal her at this time and as they did, project soul isn't to blame though as pr is done by Namco executives Tira bad her model animation and VA done but wasn't properly polished and synched as the rest of the cast in time for the disc printing but enough to create a trailer for her. This has been done for other character trailers as well as we see in Kiliks trailer his Va was absent for several of his standard attacks
I was pissed that Lei wasn't in Tekken 7 at launch but still bout the game and season pass on day 1 (with the pre-order giving me Aliza as well). I have enjoyed the game so far and am excited to play the weird looking new Lei soon! With that being said, I understand frustration over current day practices with games as a whole, and especially fighting games where we have to pay extra for what we used to get standard through unlocks as rewards for playing the games. I'm just a huge Soul Calibur fan as I am Tekken and am excited to finally have a new release which looks to redeem the mess that V was. I am however choosing to wait it out some and see what the final roster is and how the season 1 dlc turns out given I'm not a tournament or pro fighter. Either way let's enjoy this if the game turns out as good as it looks and as people who've played builds as HBTW have say it is! #SC6

Yea i agree she’s not really integral to the main plot (not that SC plot is really that well thought out or great imo) but I would say that given that the development team slided her in last minute it makes sense she is DLC. I do agree though that announcing her as a dlc BEFORE finishing the main roster showcase was not a good move it looks like it’s hurting SC6’s hype quite a bit which is not a good thing for the series especially at this point when it’s trying to rejuvenate itself.
Not to mention that Taki and Sophitia were present during the events of SC-1 and 2. Zasalamel was added because of the whole time thing so Namco needed to expand the SC-1 story and felt he was a good idea for it.

You won't be getting all the DLC, the dev has already hinted on a second season pass, so even if you buy this season pass they will just pull a Tekken 7 and announce a second season pass and charge for that as well, I was looking forward to this game but now I can't, fucking namco...
You actually can pre-order on PC now, at least on Steam (and I believe you can get the base version through Namco's own website). The issue may be that you have to search for the game on Steam as "Soulcalibur" as opposed to Soul Calibur. I know I had that issue as it just wasn't coming up in the Steam catalog for me but as soon as I tried searching for soulcalibur without a space it found both the base version of the game as well as the deluxe version with the season pass.

(I was afraid that DLC characters would not get a story but they will which is good news for me) Okubo did also acknowledge the mistake he made, so i think we should le tit go and forgive him. From my experience I too had no issues DLC, It made me play a sequel to a franchise that didn't have my favorite character in the roster and most of the time I have to money to buy that character,
DLC characters getting a script is great, I hadn't heard that, although they really should have gone about it a different way, her being so complete makes it even more suspect that she's being put behind a pay wall day 1, it's pretty clear that if they'd made her pre-order DLC or day 1 patch content it would of been something of a coup & served to greatly increase the hype of the game, & that they were fully capable of doing it this way but somebody in the company made a decision not to just sucks, both for the devs & the fans.
It's just a thought but what if they tried before but it didn't work? it is also possible that by the time they got the requests the game had already gone gold so no changes could be made even if they wanted to?
games are still worked on after they've gone gold, they have day 1 patches to cover that, as often small kinks are worked out last minute, Tira is day one DLC so they could have easily put her in as free DLC, pre-order DLC or a day 1 patch addition even if they couldn't quite make the window, this is purely a business decision, & a bad one, that the head dev alluded to there being a lot of internal discussion over it might point towards a disagreement over how it's handled, to me the very best light I can put this in is the devs wanted to add Tira in that way but some part of the larger company blocked that move & they weren't able to, & that's trying to give them all the benefit of the doubt.
Except now the game is out and we know that Tira is in the game, characters use her fighting style and weapon, and she has an entire sub plot yet I as the player am not allowedactually use her unless I pay $5 for day one dlc. So that game developer was lying. Tira is literally on the disk that I already paid $60 for yet she is locked off unless I pay more money.

Fan Favourites locked behind a Paywall? So far only one is locked behind a pre order bonus, but plenty other fan favorites are in the main roster. And the only reason Tira is even in the game at all was because the fans demanded it. They did not even plan to put her in, she is in it because they were kind enough to listen to the fans and you can get her for free from a pre order.
*NOTE*: I also hate DLCs but I don't think a whole game is ruined because of it. It's annoying but that's it and not matter what anyone says or does, DLC will never go away, those who try to force it away by not supporting a game will only make sure that no more games are made. So if anything people are just making things worse.
I agree it’s not ideal but I am happy she’s in the game, in an interview with IGN it was also stated that Tira was created near the end of Soul Calibur 6’s development cycle, and the game has to be finished about 2 months in advance, so they said they could have her be dlc for day 1, as she was not finished by the time mid August rolled around where the game was finished and being burned into disks to be shipped out. I wish she was in the main roster as well but I’m really happy she is in the game and that she is going to be launched day one, I honestly preordered the deluxe addition awhile ago so I’m glad I’ll see her day 1

In fact I have 6 main, and only one has been shown as a base character , and now one as a DLC. I really don't like the game play of most of the character. The reason they had to do this was as you said the lack of funding or market to the tira name. They built the characters with the most money then fan support to them i.e astaroth, talim, siegfried & / Nightmare.
But tira has not got the momentary support to get the development team making her. This was most likely a compromise from the financial backers and okubo, by throwing her into the season pass they can make money on the character, they also get tira and okubo probably wanted tira as a default character
I think it would be wise for them to just make her free DLC, since she isn't even listed among the three DLC characters.
They clearly developed her with the game's initial development budget, so making her free will not cost them any money.

If that's the case, a better way of handling this is to have first announced that they didn't plan on including Tira in the initial roster. They would then tell the fanbase that if they REALLY wanted Tira to be included, they would have no choice but to include her as DLC following the game's release.
This... I mean... Serious question will she be free??? Because with the circumstances (edit: and ESPECIALLY his response), she should have been patched in with an update for everyone that is getting the game. Afraid however you slice it, they are literally making the customer's pay, for their misstep! Sooner than later is how we first got clones in Smash (back when they were adding in characters last min by copying already made movesets and just adjusting their speed, damage and effects.) Such Rushing also played a part Mass Effect Andromeda.
Basically while development hell is a looming problem, "Sooner than later" for video games tends to be (almost) always bad for everyone. Even if Tira is fine unlike the clones, the damage of her release state has already been done

@Dman Smith Nobody was really asking for Tira until after Talim was revealed back in June. At that point in time the Roster was probably already finalized.
@Dman Smith I've been asking for Tira since day one myself but the general public was almost exclusively crying out for Talim right up until she was released. Don't get me wrong, she's one of my personal favorites, but I get why they did what they did. Beside if they put fighters people didn't want as DLC it wouldn't be a very good selling point. SC6 almost didn't happen at all and if this game doesn't do well it could be the last SC game we get so regardless I'll be giving 100% support to this game and I encourage any fans of the series to do the same while keeping in mind that Development and Marketing are two separate entities and the developers hard work shouldn't ultimately be reflected by the marketing teams poor practices or miss steps. Perhaps with enough support SC7 will be given a healthy budget and we can look forward to a larger starting roster.

This leak looks like it turned out to be legit, I mean who could have perfectly guess that name for a new character? If accurate that would mean Tira was planned for the game before it was announced, which would contradict Namco saying she was added after the game was announced do to fan demand.....
Holy moly, so Tira actually wasn't even supposed to be in the game! I knew trying to fit her in overly complicates things, so when she was released as a DLC character I wasn't surprised as all. Though the hasty creation of her in this game does explain the honestly boring model design she has.
EDIT: Just finishing the end of the video here, and I do want to add in, while I wasn't one of those people so upset Tira was DLC to buy the game, I was one of the people who wasn't going to buy the game if Tira just hadn't been in it at all roflmao! I love Tira, she is literally what got me addicted to the Soulcalibur series.

My problem is that if the game isn't out yet, and you announce a dlc character as day one dlc. Just put them in the base roster! They're already completed enough to show footage of and they'll be available when the game releases. This is just them either making a quick cash grab or just utter laziness. She doesn't have to be significant to the story to be in the base roster. I could care less if she makes an appearance in the story or not. It's just a cash grab in the eyes of the community simply because she is being released day one as paid separate dlc. It's just stupid honestly and bad pr. If anything it's confusing to me. Honestly I would understand if she didn't come out until a week later. But she isn't. That's just my take I'm still getting the game and I HAVE to pay for my main so I'm buying her. im dissapointed that tira is DLC, because this is the 7th game in the series (soul blade - soul calibur 6) and the roster is only 20characters including DLC, we only got 2 new characters(+1guest character).
just because tira wasn't part of soul calibur 1 doesn't matter instead she can be in the base roster just absent from the story mode. Or maybe her fighting style can be used by the opponent and the character creations during the story.
so in the end instead of being hyped for possible veterans to return like cassandra, dampiere, setsuka, algol, viola i'd rather see them in the base roster/ achievement unlockables. For DLC I want to be truly suprised for the DLC be new originals from the SC world or third party's (capcom, konami, disney, DC, Marvel, square-enix or something else)

Okubo basically said in that iv that Tira is dlc because they made a last minute decision to include her which definitely cost extra funds. I'll probably still buy it on day 1 anyway but I seriously hope that bandai namco stop doing this shady practice.
Day one DLC just makes game developers greedy. DLC and season passes are so corrupted in practice nowadays. I miss the days where the entire game was inside a disc and players weren't forced to cough up extra cash over a patched update.
Gonna buy Soul Calibur IV regardless, but I can understand the frustration of a fan favorite character being locked behind day 1 dlc. I would have prefered if she was announced some time after the release of the game, but it is what it is. Still so hyped for this game \m/

My Confusion is...Will the Base Game have 23 characters plus Tira and the 3? Or will there be blank circles in the character select roster? Because as someone who is OCD with Video game rosters, that may bug me for a while...

I like Tira but she doesn't give me an incentive to buy the season pass alone. While I intend to get SC6 at some point, about the only character that could make me want the game faster is Yun Seung.
Even if there are flaws in regards to character inclusions or what not, I believe in the talents of the author and producers of the game; because in the past to now, they have never disappointed me; so whether or not the characters missing will become dlcs I will have purchase, I'm okay with that and I will still buy this game. I hope if it is tru that this will be the last game for soul calibur, I hope they bring soul calibur V to PS4, because I still love that game. Over all I hope they make more for the soul purpose of improving the like they always do. Thank you Namco for making this epic fighting game!!! I love you guys!!!
im actually happy shes in the game either way :) she is one of my favorite characters besides talim, however im not happy with the voice actress thats voicing her as i have gotten used to her previous voice actress voice that is my only complaint O~O as of right now
They weren't even going to put her in the game. You all requested it apparently, so late in development they added her. ( 2:10 )
So instead of thinking, hey our fans love Tira let's make sure she's in the game by adding her as a free update (which would have made them look a lot better), instead we have, hey our fans love Tira let's use her as an incentive to buy the season pass.
You can clearly see in the trailer she's practically game ready, and she will be available on day one. So they have no reason not to put her in the base roster other than for profit, sad times.

Revealing her when they did is almost exactly when Arcsystems revealed that Blazblue Waifu Cross DLC had half the cast being DLC most of them being asset dumps.

I love Soul Calibur, been introduced to it when Soul Blade was around .. been a fan since SC2 .. Tira has been one of my top 10 characters and I rather have her as a Day One / Pre-Order DLC than her not even showing up at all. So am I mad? Nahh .. its like with Talim in my opinion, they are in later timelines so its more on the line of is this gonna show her loyalty to Nightmare / Soul Edge or is this before he took her in as his servant more than anything.

Here is the way I believe DLC practice should be done.
1. Companies should not announce or discuss anything about DLC before the release. Tell the consumer it will be happening but nothing more.
2. Companies are free to work on whatever DLC they plan to do before the game release. There is no way to stop this part of the practice but step 1 can help ease the backlash companies get. Ignorance is key sometimes.
3. Don't release DLC day. Let it sit for a minimum of 30 days before releasing anything.
This gives customers the peace of mind that DLC is not content that was stripped from the base game. No matter how you handle DLC this thought will always be in consumers minds especially when it comes to fighting game characters. I know some people may say that its shady to lie to the customer but as someone who works in customer service and customer support for 2 companies please understand that its the norm.
If Tira (one of the most popular ones and people have been asking for her since the game got announced) almost didn't make it, then I'm afraid Cassandra, Setsuka, and Hilde don't stand a chance :(

No, back up. Collector's edition does not have season pass. Tira is NOT a preorder bonus, that's also what this video said, she is standalone day 1 DLC, or free if you buy the season pass. Deluxe Edition comes includes the Season pass. The Season pass itself will go on sale when the game is fully released.

I know the game is a reboot but that doesnt mean the roster has to be this small. Tira could have been in the game along with some other veterans, for the story mode you dont have to use them (limit it to there fighting styles in character creation)
apparently Tira even has a story mode included in the DLC, though that may be only a rumour I haven't verified it yet, she was active in the SC2 timeline in her backstory from 3 so it's a bit of work but entirely possible to fit her in, getting that script down may of been part of why she was difficult to add. there are a lot of misconceptions around her fsr

This whole Mainstay character locked behind a paywall is a dealbreaker for me, SC6 looks great, but I just can't tolerate stuff like this anymore.

The hope they have different customization's for her. I really don't like her hair. I think they were going for a mix between SC3 and SC4 with a spin on a Jolly/Gloom mechanic, but it just looks wrong. I love full black hair SC4 emo Tira and SC3 blue hair punk Tira. SC6 Tira just looks like a "good girl".
Tira being dlc to me is not the issue. I would have paid for her if the game was good which I know it will be. The issue is the sudden announcement that makes it look like a game click bait. Pay more now and we’ll give you tira. And she’s apparently in the game. It shouldn’t work that way. It’s like a pack of smokes. You pay for a pack but the cashier charges you more for two smokes that you already paid for. No it’s should be you take this pack and if you want more we can provide more at a decent cost. That’s how dlc should work

I actually kinda get it, hearing it explained this way. They know how much people want Tira, so they put Tira in. But they couldn't fit Tira in story-wise, from the sounds of it. So, rather than rewriting things unnecessarily, or massively underrepresenting her in the story, they more-or-less presented her as "non-canon" to the particular story of this game, while still including her. And to not beat around the bush, they make her a season pass bonus and standalone DLC on day one. Still not exactly thrilled about it, but that's about as good of a way as they can do it, I feel like.
Not cluttering the story they've written (which means they might actually sincerely give a shit about the lore, oh my god), but still including the characters the fans want. I guess it's about as good of a compromise as can be expected, is what I'm saying. Great video as always, man. Cheers.
