A true legend and musical genius, these so called artist now a days cant hold a candle to him.
That is so true and an amazing musician
First time seeing this rare Micheal Henderson interview. Thanks Cindy for sharing this moment! 😎
My pleasure!
They need to do an unsung on Michael Henderson really bad. I’m serious. My late mother used to play his music a lot and she was introduced to Michael Henderson through a friend that we stayed with when I was a kid for a little while. She was immediately hooked on his music. Her favorite song was wide receiver, and even in the night time. Also her favorite songs that he played with on the dramatics albums was treat me like a man, just shopping, and I can’t get over you. Now every time I hear a song by Michael Henderson, I think of my late mother who passed away six years ago this year at age 54. Rest in heaven mom. Love you. Oh! I forgot one more favorite that my mother loved. She also loved can’t we fall in love again with the late great Phyllis Hyman.
Love this!
Rest in peace Mr. Henderson. Thank you for sharing your talent and gift.
He lived in my neighborhood in the 1970's. Fairway Drive. I saw him pull out to 7 Mile Rd, bouncin' a gold Porsche 930 in '77. It looked like a spaceship. I have been a fan ever since!
Detroit VS. Everybody......
How terrible for a teacher to tell him that he couldn't sing. His pipes are awesome, This man can sing. He has a very sexy sound.
He was Also known for his extraordinary bass playing ..simply was amazing musician
Micheal Henderson, Gary Taylor, Howard Hewitt and Little Beaver are my true unsung hero. There is some more on this list but I could not think of them off th e top my head. M
I couldn't of said it better brother Mark
Gary is beast with it....
Very talented musician has made his mark in history
Toured with Michael in 1984 and played on his album "Bedtime Stories". We opened for Nina Simone playing Radio City Music Hall and the Wiltern in Los Angeles. Didn't see him again for over thirty years. Saw he was playing the Catalina Bar and Grill on Sunset in 2019(?) and went to see him. Same set lol. We met and he gave me a big hug. The man is gracious and charming and superbly talented. Sorely underrated in today's music world. An amazing bass player. Love and blessings.
Thanks for sharing!
Outstanding album Listen was the song that stood out to me! 💃🏽🕺🏽
@@jieronbaltazar1972 I don’t think that he was saying that it came out that year but he said that he started playing with him in 1984 and ended up playing on that album. That was my understanding. 👏🏽

Damn! This man was a dynamic singer. I enjoyed his music such as "Starship", "Take Me, I'm Yours" and "At the Concert". I especially loved his duets with Phyliss Hyman, such as "We Both Need Each Other" and "Can't We Fall In Love Again". RIP Michael!
TV one needs to do an unsung documentary on him like they did with Al Jarreau when he passed away.

Same here. In fact, I was listening to my created playlist of Michael Henderson on my Spotify yesterday thinking of my late mother who died on 22 July in 2013. She played a lot of his music for me when I was a very little girl may she rest in peace as well.
Your fans will truly miss you my brother. My first time seeing you was on soul train. And the women on soul train went crazy listening to you sing and how tall and handsome you were, on that rest in peace my brother and may you rest peaceful in God's loving arms. Good bye for now. And I am glad to know that you was from my home state of Mississippi.
My aunt bought the Wide Receiver 45 for me in 1979. I played this song over and over and over.... Great interview! Definitely inspired me to write/sing.
The song came out in 1980…

This was my mother’s favorite artist God rest her soul as well. Anyway, she had the wide receiver album and she would play it during her house parties when I was growing up. Rest in peace michael. Thanks for giving us a lot of your music. My favorite songs is in the night time, yours truly discreet identity, wide receiver, make me feel like, take me I’m yours, let me love you, the list goes on. Just yesterday, I was listening to my playlist of Michael Henderson songs that I put together on Spotify thinking of my mother on the anniversary of her death. She passed July 21, 2013. It felt sad but it brought back good memories of my mom when she used to play michael a lot.

Thanks for sharing!
Prayers and Condolences too his entire family
He was sososo fab
Such a warm humble gracious man from the impression of his interview with Cindy. Responsible for some incredible music with a voice to match! Had such an identifiable sound it could only be Michael Henderson. A brilliant bass player song writer and arranger he is truly one of the unsung legends in the music world and deserved superstar status. One question I was so hoping Cindy would ask was why after such a prolific solo recording career spanning around 10 years did he suddenly stop?? Yeah a wasted opportunity she didn't go more into the music rather than what does he like to do when he's not performing, oh he likes fishing, well that's nice but what about more on his music and what happened after Bedtime Stories for instance?? He had such an amazing voice, three octaves I believe and his teacher said he couldn't sing. What did they know. Playing on those Motown sessions with Marvin and Stevie, writing songs for Marvin's The Man album, and the Dramatics, joining Miles Davis, and then hitting big time with Norman Connors, it's an impressive cv. My all time favourite album of Michael's is Do It All and Wait Until The Rain has to be his finest song in my book. Blessings to Michael and family and friends. Never forgotten your beautiful music lives on
Thanks for your comment Kev. Michael explained that the recording industry was NOT his first priority, he said that he kept God first, and that he was into smelling those roses. He did not want to become a slave to the recording industry.
Rip 😢Michael Henderson your music 🎵lives in me ♥️🙏🏼🕊 sending love and prayers to his family and friends 💞

He was the real deal
Yes he was the real deal. He was very personable and he loved his fans! Thank you for your comments!
Your the best Mike!! Nothing but Love
The baddest player ever
WTF??? At 9:03...Part of a teacher's job is they supposed to ENCOURAGE...not to discourage!!! I'm a big fan of Michael's solo work, and it's sad and appalling to hear his teacher telling him while at a younger age that he shouldn't pursue singing. That he wasn't good at it!?!? I can definitely hear reluctance and shyness when he speaks. That effected him greatly! Well, he sure showed that teacher! R.I.P. to the low key legend!
Rest in Power King ❤
Gone but not for gotten
