Amazing facts about Thuja:
The name of the genus derives from the Greek θυία thyía ("cedar") because of the characteristic smell of the wood; in America it is called arborvitae (from Latin, "tree of life").
Commonly called western red cedar or Pacific red cedar, is an evergreen coniferous tree in the cypress family.
The foliage sprays strongly aromatic, with a scent reminiscent of pineapple when crushed.
The essential oil of western red cedar leaves contains natural compounds which are used in perfumery.
