    This is must-watch viewing for any reporter worth a damn! Thank you for posting it!

    Bradlee notes the importance of the simple task of writing a declarative sentence.
    I’m a recently retired reporter, and I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to read things written by local reporters who don’t seem interested or capable of doing that.
    And much of the problem lies with lack of guidance by editors who should know better.

      I think it is surely strange to to have these guys at the Nixon Library, but I don’t think it is a bad idea to have them there. However, Seeing them yucking it up, and getting such softballs and having such support in a crowd there makes me feel a little disgust in my stomach.

    Bradlee referred to pressure brought to bear on the Post by Nixon with the threat of license revocation, and the Post’s stock plummeting. That ability of the executive branch ought to be examined. Would have liked to hear Ben’s views about this, and whether he felt the 1st Amendment was being dodged.

      @johnmoore4 Год назад

      No, the under the influence of the press should be investigated. Bradlee was starstruck by JFK and the Kennedy to him could do no wrong. Why he was even invited to the Nixon foundation is beyond me.

    Who was running the Nixon Library at this time? They invited the Bolshoi Ballet to pirouette on the man’s grave. They could take over The Reagan library and invite John Hinkley to do a lecture on Jodi Foster’s movie career.

      I don't think anyone believes that everything Nixon did was crooked. I don't. I think, though, two things, this is a very important discussion to have, as many times as possible. Number two, I do agree that there are other spaces and venues better suited for this discussion.

      Richard Nixon caused his own downfall. Nixon and his cronies broke the law. Nixon got caught and didn't have the sense to destroyers the tapes. That is the problem just as Donald Trump keeps doing stuff on video or audio.

      Well shit, I think I may have read enough about Watergate, but I can’t help but think that people my age aren’t getting a real view of these times, since I was a baby in 73, and the narrative about Nixon is all bad, and the narrative about Ol Bob is that he is such a great reporter. Then I look into Elsberg, Deep Throat gets revealed. I get access to a copy of RN the memoirs of Richard Nixon, and then get access to Firing Line and their shows with the cast of characters from watergate. I noticed that there are hearings available as well but I haven’t been able to get through them all. I then look at BobWoodward’s great investigative reporting of RussiaGate and His book released during the Trump election, and I just don’t see much journalistic curiosity or stellar reporting… what I see is a couple of infiltrators in the federal government who were happy to send all manner of lies and distortions or even half truths to a reporter that he barely has to get confirmation of because the owner and editor are so in the bag for democrats. Maybe Nixon should have seen the bad eggs, and maybe he should have resigned, but I just can’t help but think that Nixon was dead wrong and did a disservice to our country by not going the distance, and forcing there to be an impeachment trial. Trump on the otherhand shed light on the kinds of darkness that has been killing democracy for too long.
