Just thought I would mention for other viewers. The PS seals kit comes with a very small o-ring (smaller than a 5 cent piece) which goes on the hardline pipe (high pressure). It is easy for that o-ring to fall off when you remove the hard-line if the o-ring has deteriorated. Sometimes the o-ring will stay in the hole. It is worth checking you get that o-ring out and replace it. Because it is high pressure and it is a common leak point.
And yes, a power steering leak will eventually kill the alternator. Any leaking fluid will drop right onto, and into, the alternator. Crazy design to have a fluid pump right above an item that dies if it gets enough fluid into it. But hey, it lets them sell more alternators.
If your alternator has died. When pulling it out, the bolts don't have enough clearance to be removed. They hit the radiator fan cowling. Some instructions say to remove the radiator, others say to just remove the fans. I find that it is easier to remove the bracket that the alternator is bolted to. The bracket with the idler pulley on it. Makes it a much easier job. Three long bolts on the bracket, one short bolt at the back of the alternator. Then the alternator can be moved forward giving easy access to the positive cable connection and the wiring plug. Then lift it out. Remove the alternator from the bracket, attach the new one, then reverse the process to put it all back in. Should be a 20 minute job to replace the alternator after removing the power steering pump.
I usually remove the air box (top and bottom pieces) to give more room to work on the alternator. Also remember to disconnect the battery before attempting to remove the alternator. That positive cable at the back of the alternator is live all the time and will make a lovely spark if you forget to disconnect the battery and that cable touches anything.

How did you get that part out after taking the cover off? Took the pins out but couldn't pull the ( i guess) pump out.

Hey man. It looks like you have a GM type 2 pump? If so what are the chances you have a part number for that? Probably pretty slim since you did this video 3 years ago. Or do you know what type of vehicle that type 2 comes out of so I can go to an autoparts store to find? Thanks!

Hey mate great work, have you ever thought about putting a astra electric power steering pump on it instead? Hear great results from many sources?!

The power steering pumps on ebay are $140 I probably would not waste my time in rebuilding this stuff , but each to their own I’m sure someone will find it usefull

Did you have issues with the alternator from the leak? My alternator has gone and it is clear there is PS fluid doing the damage - but was not easy to find the leak.

Hey mate I own a VY V6 and am about to replace the power steering pump but came across this video. Is the V8 pump different to the V6?

I'm not 100% sure mate, i couldn't see it being too much different to the LS1 pump if it was different.

@@snrautoworx2840 thanks for getting back to me. I’ll have a crack at repairing it myself as it’s cheaper than buying a new one. Not sure if it’s worth going to the wreckers

@@MegaAngryfan can't hurt to give it a crack, worst comes to worst you get a 2nd hand one to get you out if trouble till the funds are there for a new one.
