    Hi I feel the same way big Jim camper is awesome! Santa got my son one for Christmas morning and as he was wearing vtg footie PJs with the vinyl toe caps and vinyl soles he unwrapped it and I will never forget the big smile he had and watching him play with it after it was taken out of the box.well memories like that you don't forget and I will always cherish them so thankyou for posting this video I too wish Mattel bring big Jim stuff back and that they make big Jim the same size he was originally🙂

    My most beloved toy ever! 🥰 I still see myself getting it at Christmas Eve, it was hidden under a blanket behind an armchair in our living room. A few years ago I bought one in very good condition in its original box and with the decals still on the sticker sheet. At least in the version which was sold in Germany there were no "food stickers" for the pots and plates included, only the stripes for the boat, sleeping bag and seats and the white ones for the lantern. Regarding the boat I think there were normal rubber bands included for fixing it to the roof.

    I still have this set (in the original box) in my father's basement. Unless my father threw them out (I hope not) I still have Big Jim, Jeff and Josh, the Kung Fu Studio and the gorilla and net trap set in their original boxes.
    I actually wrote a letter to Mattel (mid 70s) because, after being shot out, the net wouldn't go over (above) and cover the gorilla. It was angled too low. It never did work properly but I did get a letter from Mattel. As a kid I loved to get mail, I was probably the youngest person on the Canadian Department of Consumer and Corporate Affairs mailing list :)
    Fantastic toy, played with it all the time and probably the only thing I have left from my childhood.
    Like another poster i can still remember the smell of the vinyl camper and Kung Fu studio which was a great accessory. I was never much of a comic book fan but I worshiped the ads on the back cover (joy buzzer et al) and I especially loved the Big Jim ads.

    • @georgiahex7387
      @georgiahex7387  8 лет назад

      Do you plan to see if all the items you had are still in the basement? You are accurate about the net not launching high enough to cover the gorilla.

    • @jethro1963
      @jethro1963 8 лет назад

      IIRC the Kung Fu Studio came with an accessory that I just remembered. It was a pistol shaped gadget that you could put the figure in front of, press the trigger and an "arm" of the pistol would propel the figure's leg to kick. Or did that come with the football uniform?

No food stickers. He also came with a shot gun. . He had a red flannel some chordoroy tan pants sox and boots with a red baseball cap. I got my Big Jim in the summer of 76''. I also got a kiddy pool so I left him out over night to go night fishing. The next day I found him capsized. I went to go straighten his legs out and they just came off. The built in tent for barbies camper was cool,. I restored my sisters and with all the left over parts I have an extra in awesome condition, both have the original barbie camper boxes

    Thanks for posting this! I to, spent many hours with the camper.... and rescue vehicle. Was it Big Jim that when you bent his arm, his muscle(bicep) would build(flex) up?

      eventhorizonbm. Great toy

    • @georgiahex7387
      @georgiahex7387  9 лет назад +1

      Georgia HEX You are correct. Jim had a band that would be tied around his arm. Once his arm was bent causing him to flex, the band would"break" off and fling through the air. Imagine if a toy was made like that today.

    I was an adult when this came out and was too old for Barbie (and my mom wouldn't have bought me this or any other accessories anyway). Looking at this versus ANYTHING made for Barbie, I prefer this because it looks more real (not that I saw any brown campers on the road but I definitely did NOT see Barbie pink campers on the road). And all the brown accessories I like better, as well.

      If i recall, look at Steve Scout or maybe Bob Scout by Kenner. I recall seeing a couple in a trade shop years ago. I don't know anything about them.

      That jungle truck is also on the shared platform with the Barbie Travlin’ trailer! Barbie and Big Jim vehicles are cool and I have some possible projects turning them into RC vehicles. I did do the Barbie Ferrari 308 and have a couple Barbie disco Vettes and ‘57 Chevy to possibly experiment with.

      My only complaint was the Joe's were to tall for the big Jim vehicles. I preferred Jim over Joe probably because everybody had Joe's not Jim's.
