Thank you very much, and I think it was the Dreamcast Junkyard article about unusual items that alerted me to the game/MIDI interface in the first place, so thanks for that too. :)
I was thinking like "i have dreamcast and midi keys, surely someone must have done something about it". Thanks, also I love YMO and gonna learn this song thanks to this video too.
Thank you very much! Unfortunately there aren't any other programs that support the MIDI interface cable, another reason to balk at the outrageous price of the official one. I don't know of any other programs for general music creation (like the MUSICtm/MUSIC 2000 games on the PlayStation).
Thanks, Shaun! I don't think there are any quantization options beyond manually snapping notes to the grid. My timing is never particularly tight but it's particularly sloppy here due to the capture setup adding quite a bit of audio latency (well, that's my excuse!) so I'd say it's definitely better to run the audio output directly to your speakers.
@@benryves Does it output beat clock at all? I wonder if you could fake quantizing with a little middleware piece. My timing is also bad so I'm often thinking of these things 😂 I actually tend to prefer music that's not super super quantized though
@@merthsoft I haven't found anything meaningful coming out of MIDI OUT, it just seems to replicate MIDI IN when playing/recording so acts more like MIDI THRU. The transport controls respond to system real-time messages (FA, FB, FC) which is pretty neat at least, but I'm not sure how it would respond to *receiving* MIDI clocks, maybe one to experiment with!
This is amazing! Any chance you would make these to sell? I’d love to have one but I just don’t have the technical skill to build one myself. The only one on ebay that I see is $172!
Thank you very much for your kind comment! Unfortunately the time spent making these by hand would not make it economically viable for me to make these to sell myself, sorry.
Hey! Sorry to bug you again but would you have a parts list for the prototype? I want to copy it to use with my dreamcast but I do not have much experience with what resistors and such to buy! Looking at your guide I’ve found most of it online but not sure what to buy for the smaller things. Any help would be appreciated, I really want to make one of these.
@@benryves Hey, yes I do have a copy of that, thank you for the link! Some of the parts I didn’t understand but I will get one of my electrical engineers to help me at work. Can it be used on the breadboard? Or would I need to solder everything onto another board? Sorry for the noob questions. I know how to solder and do small projects this is just a little more complex.
@@SegaDreamcast My first prototype was on a breadboard, the difficult part is the construction of the serial cable. Please do let me know if anything is unclear!
Unfortunately I don't think so, it's not mentioned in the manual and I couldn't get either device to do anything meaningful in-game. Keyboard support would help a lot when naming parts! The built-in web browser (Dream Passport 2) does support the keyboard but doesn't recognise the mouse either.
Whoa this is awesome!
Yo this is sick! Great work
Very cool

@@benryves Thanks man! Can we feature this creation on the blog?
@@thomascharnock I'd be delighted for you to do so, cheers! :D

Personally excited to sample cds with thisss
I'm so glad you did this, now I don't have to!
Bless you.
This is so rad!! Are there many other Dreamcast games that you can make music with?

great stuff
Great work, Ben! Nice little song. Does the software have any options to quantize to the beat?

I'm guessing no
Samba De Amigo Maracas nor Fishing Rod controller support either 🤣
