  • From September 26th, 2024. Finally got what I would consider to be my first ever video of the Union Pacific SD70ACE #8444 on this nice Thursday fall night even though it’s not considered a heritage unit or a special interest unit to railfans. Saw it in downtown Saint Louis coming off the MacArthur bridge on main track from over in Illinois as I was arriving there to see Amtrak 21 the southbound Texas eagle come in from Chicago going to San Antonio at Cerre Street. Once I knew this train was getting underway after stopping for a bit at grand Avenue to allow a faster westbound Z train ZMNNP get far enough out ahead of it going to Jeff city, I drove back west on interstate 44 to Kirkwood Amtrak station to see it again and to get this video of it too. Here it is passing by the Kirkwood depot on the Jeff city sub on main track 1 at 7:41 pm. It’s train MASHN led by a Union Pacific rebuilt and newer painted former C44-9W #9650, then his 2nd unit is the typical but certainly rare I’d say UP #8444 an SD70ACE. It carries the original older 4 digit number of the Union Pacific’s still in regular operation 4-8-4 northern steam locomotive which is now of course #844 headquartered and taken care of out west in Cheyenne Wyoming. This train MASHN also had a single rebuilt but also newer painted Union Pacific C44AC6M #5884 which was also a former C44-9W as well. This train originated at the Alton & Southerns East Saint Louis gateway yard over in Illinois and is headed out west to Harrington Kansas. Hope you all like this video by me. Feel free to comment on it too. Enjoy! Jason.
