I would like to take this opportunity to Thank Top shelf aquatics for taking the time to visit my home and spend all the time to do this video. Kevin, Blaine and the videographer are the best in the busness. I am humbled to be chosen to be on their channel. I want to also Thank all viewers and especially the ones that took the time to leave comments. Appreciate all of you. This is what makes this hobby so special.
Hi Joseph its a beautiful tank! You have mentioned you dose A and K trace elements. How much ML do you dose a day? and what is your water volume? Thanks!
When everyone talks about methods and doing what works for you, probably the biggest factor of that thought process is you have to know your self. Not what you want to do, what are you able to commit to. The simpler you can keep your idea the more follow through and happiness and success you will have. Don't set your self up for failure by taking on too much. Hey great pow wow TSA, thank you.
@@andrewlindell8626 I think your missing my point. A person can know everything about something but do nothing about it. It's about your energy level. What can you commit to. The more energy you put into this - I call it a lifestyle choice and not a hobby, the nore success it breeds.
@@jesseberg6183 yah that's what I'm referring to by limits. I picked a method that I believe can work to create stability and good conditions and I'm well aware of what's required to do this and maintain it. Like you said it's about what you are willing to put it into it
Watched the complete interview and damn. I’ve got mad respect for this tank and the owner. Only thing that made me laugh a bit was these 2 sentences “keep it simple choose one” “I’m switching my salt” But anyways around you’re a legendary reefkeeper without a doubt.
Joe is really the man, he had been with tropic Marin pro for a long time and still says the salt is worth reefers going for. I think we may of wanted a change of pace and maybe to mirror his work (polo reef). Thanks for tuning in! -Blaine
This is my goal. One day I'll get there. I have a 3-year-old 220-gallon, but I am not near his level. Beautiful tank thanks, Top Shelf Aquatics And thank you joseph
That tank is the bomb! The angelfish that he has in there has he ever had any problems with it, nipping at corals or what not because I would be afraid to put that thing in there. But I guess he has so many corals he probably never notice a nip or two.
Similar to Marks tank, if you haven’t seen that video check it out, but with how large the colonies are and how grown in they’ve become the angel isn’t going to do enough significant damage to notice and keeping it well fed helps too! -Blaine
beautiful system. I have a lot respect for the his work. It is funny however, when I hear, and not just from Joe, that a reefer isn't doing something "because the ocean doesn't do it", such as gravel vacuuming. The ocean doesn't use artificial salt or kalk reactors.
This is true! We all are doing things out of the norm, but I feel we are trying to do our best to mimic the natural ocean. Thanks for tuning in! -Blaine
A good topic for you to explore at some point would be End Of Life planning as relates to reef tanks, especially with those of us who have larger systems. Many of us are older and all of us will become older, we hope. What will happen to some of these beautiful tanks when their creators die?
@@josephmuscat3095Hello Joe. What is the life expectancy of the snails ? Do you have to continually hunt out dead ones in the tank since you said your spending $2 grand every year adding new ones. I guess they don’t breed or multiply? For that much money seems a spare tank might make sense breeding them, if that’s even possible.
Something that has puzzled me on YT videos is people talking about old tank syndrome as if age is bad. I have had tanks that were decades old and they got better as they settled in. Older is more stable.
As long as it's eating the frozen and warding off any future outbreaks I feel it can be a great addition to any reef tank! Joe's was a nice example of one! -Blaine
Nassarius snails! Can find them on our website, a great addition to the clean up crew sand bed and Joe swears by them! Helps maintain that 17+ year old sanded! -Blaine
How the heck did he manage to keep the fem and len wrasses without them killing each other? And 2 females to boot. Every time i have tried, i have failed. Congrats Tusi!

what is the of the rainbow colored monti cap in the middle of your tank?
You have a stunning system. Thank you for sharing your insight into the hobby with us. This was extremely informative for someone like myself. Cheers.

In my 20+ year struggle with reefing, this is my favorite execution of a reef under 500 gallons. The Oscar goes to Mr. Joe T. ... 👍
AGREED! Best way to put it! Give this man his trophy!!!
-Blaine
I’ve been in reefing for over 30 years this is my top 5 ever

I thing I noticed that the sps corals 🪸 always look bigger and colorful when they're full of fish 🐟 .
That is breathtaking, I could get rid of Netflix and just watch this all day.
Such a great video and love Joe's take on reefing.
Great work blaine ❤️

So many great nuggets of reefing knowledge dropped throughout the entire video! Thanks for tuning in.

Dang, that’s bad-ass!! I have a 3-year-old 60-gallon cube with sump, all that, acros; everything. This is next level in size and variation of species.
His tank truly was next level! Was a blast getting to share this one on the channel! Thanks for the comment!

This look seems specific to using Zeolit reactors🦊
The colors on his corals were truly vibrant, and showcased just how healthy this system was!

A good project for a lottery winner
To be fair the deep sand bed it’s most of the times the best system
It’s way simpler than other

Beautiful tank, nice job! 👍🏼
Did I miss it or did he not mention water change frequency?
I do 10% per week
Thank you
I think I’m going to go your route with Nassarius snails, I love ‘em and have a lot, but nowhere near 1 per gallon! 😮👍🏼
Automatic water changes with about 10% per week!

frits RPM is great salt
That is such a beautiful tank man I loved every second of this video

why not using Lanthanchloride in the sump for the reduction of phosphate?
Very cool tank

Something that has puzzled me on YT videos is people talking about old tank syndrome as if age is bad. I have had tanks that were decades old and they got better as they settled in. Older is more stable.
Amazing tank Joe! But I guess the natural foods in your tank for your filefish got depleted....
Yes it did but he eats frozen food. Not fas as he should be though

It’s TUSI!!!!
Tusi time!!! Thanks for stopping in Big O!

Did anybody else see the Siamese zoa head?
Double mouthed Paly head! Nice catch!
-Blaine
@TopShelfAquatics okay thanks didn't know what to call it. I know now.
The blue tang is so skinny please feed him more…the tank is beautiful
It’s an older fish, looked very healthy to me for an almost 20 year old tang! Tank was unreal! Thanks for tuning in.

14:56 of the video
So is the tank 17 or 20 years old?
Just about 18 years old at this point, basically twenty years let’s be real!
-Blaine
@@TopShelfAquatics what a weird thing to lie about lol
I think I must of missed it, but did Joe say how he maintains the big 3 alkalinity, Ca and Mg??
I don’t think I did. I do it with a calcium reactor
Calcium reactor is his go to form of maintaining those elements!
-Blaine
Dimensions?
60”x24x24
The blue tang is so skinny please feed him mote
No need to clean a sand bed when you have 50 wrasses in a tank 🤣🤣🤣
50 is a little high of a guess don’t ya think? LOL I’m sure they do assist with the turning of the sand every night though!
-Blaine
I thought the 200 Nas. Wes genius.
@@TopShelfAquatics don't forget they turn it over and forage it all day
17 or 20 years old? Title says 20 but you repeatedly said 17 years.
17 years since corals and fish were added, the tank is custom built and took god knows how long to build.
Poor fish swimming in circles trapped in this tank instead having a whole ocean to explore 😢
Gorgeous!
Totally amazing to be able to share this on the channel! Thanks for the comment!
-Blaine
How the heck did he manage to keep the fem and len wrasses without them killing each other? And 2 females to boot. Every time i have tried, i have failed. Congrats Tusi!
He’s a WIZARD!! For sure hit the lottery with some of his fish that he’s been able to keep happy and swimming!
