Hey Tim, thank you for your videos and your playing, I love it! I have a question about the vibes and I wondered if you could answer it: I noticed different manufacturers use different pedals, as in different sized pedals. Some are similar to piano pedals and other are long bars. Is there any difference when playing? Should I look for a specific type of pedal when looking for a vibraphone? Or is it purely an aesthetic matter? Thank you very much for your help!
It can make a difference- I used to have a Premier vibraphone that had the bar going across. On my Musser, I always have the pedal turned a bit towards the right foot since I mostly just use my right foot. I have long arms and legs though, so I can still reach the whole instrument without moving my feet too much. I think on some instruments the damper bar doesn’t work as well- it wouldn’t evenly sustain the sound, that’s the advantage for the single pedal. But the last time I played on an instrument with a pedal like that was a long time ago so I don’t really remember. It’s a consideration though, but a minor factor for me. Hope that helps.
This is beautiful! I'll be sure to try it as soon as I get a vibes and a marimba! It sounds really fun to play! 😀
So great! Thanks.
Love this tune of yours Tim! I remember it from your recital at Manhattan school of Music! (Awesome concert and band, btw!) :-)
