This is why I advocate for closed professional starts at major events like golden ticket, WSER, UTMB WS, WTM. The pros have direct access to the start line without needing a shuttle. Just because they can adjust on the fly doesn’t mean it’s the best for competition. Like Adam said it was an unfair advantage for those who received the delayed notice vs those that arrived at 7am.

RDs shoulder heavy burdens. Late start could have been handled better. Snow was not out of the question based on the forecast. A phone call with the bus drivers local to understand their position in case of weather would have made sense. An early heads up on Friday would have been helpful as well (“watch your email”). Learnings for next time.

Also (while I’m here) the wait for the bus at the finish line back to the parking area was amazingly long, especially considering how cold it was. I’m pretty sure there was only one bus running.
This was my first time in the orbit of an Aravaipa event and the logistics and communications for this event did not live up to expectations.
Everyone says they’re the best, so I’ll be back, but not at an event that requires shuttling. Especially on both ends.
