As dog bags, I recommend using bread bags, if you have to buy it in plastic.

Hey guys! So I'm 13 years old and live in a 5 person family (including me). My oldest brother is in collage and my other brother is leaving next year. I really want out family to be more eco friendly, but dont know where to start! Both of my brothers eat meat, but next year, when my brother leaves, my parents and I are going to go vegaterian (and maybe vegan??). Any tips?

this is quite late but try going slow and don’t worry about making mistakes. Progession over perfection. Go online and order carbon neutral packages with zero waste products there are many like in these vids! Good luck 😊💕

Small changes can make big differences. Here are small my family has done:
      1. We stopped buying plastic water bottles and just buy everyone their own reusable water bottle. It's slightly better because now we don't have to spend money on them for family events.
      2. My family sometimes watches movies together, and I slipped in a movie about the earth's environment right now.
      3. Get dryer cotton balls. My mother ADORES these because of how much money they save. It replaces dryer sheets, and it's a cotton ball you can use over and over again. Look them up to they're pretty cool.
      4. Reuse glass/plastic jars from foods to hold things. Like a pickle jar or an old candle jar. My family reuses our pickle jars for spices or some cotton balls.
      5. metal straws are also good, but parents might not like them due to cleaning them. Mine were hesitant at first but saving money helped.
      6. Using rags/towels instead of paper towels. It surprisingly saves a lot of money.
      7. Cans into planters. (My family loves plants)
These are small changes we did, but please remember to use up every plastic items you have before replacing them with sustainable items. It's really wasteful to just throw out perfectly plastic items.

Late message from me. There's definitely a lot you can do.
The other comments make good points. My advice?
Don't worry too much on not being perfect 100% of the time.
So long as you're using what good eco options are available to you. You're all good.
An eco RUclipsr called "Shelbizleee" says "You can't do all the good that the world needs.
But the world needs all the good that you can do" 👍
So long as you remember that. Watch the odd video on "eco swaps". Talk to your family about why you do what you do. If they ask questions or when it's relevant to the conversation.
And do stuff like that, you'll do fine. 👍
P.s a great tip is that things are way more eco when they are local to you. As in, made, packaged and sold in the same place you live.
I.e, if something says "made in the US"and you live in the US. It has travelled less to get to you. Less emissions from vehicles 👍
Ooo, ooo, and buy second hand where possible. Charity shops and Goodwill's are your friend. And they're affordable! You're family will love saving some money 👍👍

The mouthwash recipe is a no no! Do not put essential oils in your mouth! A better zero waste mouthwash, as recommended by dentists, is just warm water with salt :)

Not only is essential oils (ESPECIALLY peppermint in that one) a no-no in your mouth (or any bare skin tbh), EOs are very wasteful. for a rose EO, it takes 242,000 rose petals to make only 5 ml of oil. If you can, get something else for scent.

if you are black DO NOT use conditioner bars. I'm black my self and they will dry out your hair
