The mother of my best friend in elementary school was Thai and she always made those fruit baskets for her friends when there was something to celebrate. She carved really intricate designs into the surface of the watermelon basket and the flesh that she put inside the basket was carved into beautiful flower shapes.
It because we learned how to do those intricate design fruit carvings in school, usually you learn it in home EC. And it would usually be a knowledge that stuck with you, even after you graduate. (I'm Thai btw)

Also, for those of you who don’t like cantaloupe and/or honey dew, you can use red grapes, green grapes, strawberries, kiwi chunks, and/or fresh pineapple chunks instead. Just stay away from things like apples, pears, peaches, and bananas that brown quickly.

Yes!! To make the "basket" into a "stroller " change the cut to be about ⅔ of the top and a bit deeper than the basket. Now some folks can manage 4 wheels from the "leftover" top piece but personally, it's always been too teeny. So from the cantaloupe or honeydew cut 4 sides about the same amount, flip so the flesh faces outward. Trim as needed to get approximate match sizes for wheels. Here I usually use the leftover melon to mimic the wheel hubs. Scoop out all the flesh, same as is suggested for the basket. Attach "wheels " and "hubs" with wood skewers cut to length. Now I get fancy and detail carve the "hood" with a scalloped shape and use a fruit knife to lightly carve tiny detail along the edges. I wing it but you could use a stencil that has large enough designs to replicate onto a fruit or just keep it plain. I imagine a fruit stroller - with or without detail is going to impress your party!
