- We've been using the Bluetti Charger 1 for awhile now and are currently using it in our Chevy Silverado on a long road trip. It's working out very well and in this video I describe it more in detail and explain how it works best for us.
Bluetti's "Charger1" is an extremely handy tool, even if you do have solar, and would be especially valuable to truckers and other folks who travel by car for a living. I never bother to charge my power stations through the 12 volt accessary outlet while I'm driving, it takes too long! We've found out that this new product from Bluetti charges your power stations 5 -6 times faster.

Great to see you showing more of the Bluetti Charger 1 and giving
an update on how it is going with you. have a wonderful day and thank you Rick and Linda.☕👋🇺🇲
Have a great weekend! Thank you, Roger.
Bought one for my jeep after I saw yours and others videos. My install was maybe 5 minutes. Works great. I did upgrade my alternator, the jeep came with a 130 amp alternator, so I put in a 200 amp one. Highly recommend the unit, got mine for less than $200.
I love mine i have it permanently mounted in the back of my crew cab . I am astonished at the wattage my AC 200 receives from this small device . I had to carry my (2) 200 watt solar panels just so the AC 200 can accept a charge . I no longer need to pack those . I run a Engle 45 quart refer and this suits my charging needs perfectly i love how it comes on automatically and starts charging the bluetti even turning it on if was off . I reserved mine after i saw your previous video thank's you two and safe travel's
Good post, this item was designed for a lifestyle such as yours, when on the road.
Thank you for the detailed explanation of your install. I would never ask that additional information from you because yes, it is different on each vehicle, but you gave good ideas of how to get around the firewall. Greatly appreciated.! 👍
WOW, another great informative video. I still have my charger 1 in the box - waiting for a little warmer day to get out there and install it. I do need to get that inline fuse to place at the battery.
I have a small Bluetti and would love to get the Charger 1... Thank you for your explanation and details... I love watching Will Prowse, but you are giving application details that are completely different. So happy you are sharing the "quiet" advantages over a gas generator. I am sure you both appreciate the quiet when you are out in the more remote areas. Again THANK YOU!
Friend, use one of those small inverters to charge your small power station. $400 Charger 1 would be overkill if you only need it to charge smaller power stations. Make sure its a pure sine inverter @150-300w. Good Luck
@@Lobo-Loboi agree, for my smaller Jackery and Bluetti I use an inverter but be careful on what draw your charger has. My bigger Bluetti charger pulls around 400 watts.
Beautiful video! Thanks. Bluetti has the best equipment of all of them.
Glad for this followup to the Charger1. It looked like a great idea the first time - with more road experience I’m ready to make a plan. Thanks Rick!
Great to see you both with Rob of travels with dottie. Your channels are my absolute favourites. 0:31
Thanks!
We appreciate this very much! Thank you.
Yeah. We just bought one. Should have bought it a long time ago. Great video.
Thinking of adding this to my sailboat. Would be great to have a way to charge my stand alone power stations, just in case. So many uses, might need several! Thanks Rick for the update!
You know you are getting an honest review when you include the competition's product too. Well done!
I think this is an exceptional solution to the often traveled or the part-timer.
Why buy a generator, when you're driving one?
As a full timer, nothing's going to replace my solar.
I have an insane amount of collection and Storage that is scheduled to outlive me.
Having said that, if you have a modern vehicle with a high output alternator, this might just be your ticket.
I have all the Comforts and conveniences, and can stay stationary for months at a time.
There will be a new breakthrough in the next year or two.... because that's how this stuff goes.
I have the Bluetti charger1 in my truck which is a game changer. I have the 1000 watts solar panels and AC200L so I’m all set! Have a continued great adventure.
Thanks Rick, Your videos are invaluable. I just bought a Charger 1 from Amazon for $ 269 (there is a coupon for $160 off). And yes. I will send a few bucks to you for gas in your vehicle. Happy Trails!
Thank you very much!
I have one also, and you did a great job showing your use which might be the perfect application. I don't do the travel you do but I did want a backup for charging my AC180 power station for power outages. I did the same thing and added a 60amp fuse near the battery. By the way Bluetti runs sales where this is up to $200 off list so always worth watching for them.
Love it! Thank you for sharing this information- very helpful
That was an excellent presentation. It certainly addressed every concern I had had with a DC/DC charger. I don't need one, YET, but there may be a day when I'd like to run a second 45 qt compressor fridge (the faithful ENGEL lives in the trailer galley powered by the trailer's robust solar electric system) and use a +/- 1000Wh power station. That nifty little 256 Wh OUPES you suggested last year goes EVERYWHERE around the house, here, performing multiple USB-type charging functions. What a handy item. Dagnabbit, Rick! You have been so helpful. Cheers.
Thank you for the encouragement, it sure does help.
My question is does the Charger 1 charge at a descent rate with the car engine just idling ???? Say your at camp, been raining and your power station is low....Can you just turn on your car engine and re-charge your power station that way ???...Hope your enjoying your time in the Big Q....Stay safe, stay warm, be well....
@@akgobears it does indeed charge at a decent rate. At an idle I get 570 watts coming into my BLUETTI
@@LS-vo7hc TY
On both my Yukon and now my Silverado it charges the same at idle as it does while driving.
Hi Rick. Gee, what a Good Review on an item we need for charging. Thanks. I need one of these, and as soon as this house is sold, I'll have the scratch to get this and a few other goodies. But More Important Is, the way you explain how to 'Plug it in, and Make it Work'. That, has always been my problem and thanks to you I 'Get-It'. Nice.
Glad I was able to help some. We're still down near Ajo hiding from Winter.
great informative video as always! I carry a small 900 watt propane charger uses 1lb. or larger tanks.....happy trails to you!
You can also put in a high output alternator. They don't cost much more than a factory one. I put in a 220 Amp one in my 03 Tahoe. I haven't noticed any mileage difference yet.
I have the Bluetti cgarger 1. I thought about this for awhile, and Ray from "Love your RV" tested this theory. If you take the output of the charger 1 and input it into an mppt charge controller and output to your travel trailer or for that fact, any house LiP04 batteries. It will charge your batteries at the specified rate.
Great feed back. We like ours too for our AC 180. Charges way faster than the cig plug. Also, this time of year with the sun maintaining that 34 deg angle it’s hard to get a lot of solar on cloudless days. Thanks for sharing
My AC180 has the 270W max limit on the DC charge port. The AC turbo charge works great. I did the reset that Bluetti recommends but it didn't fix it, have all the latest firmware updates. I now wish I didn't get the Charger-1 since it doesn't work for my AC180.
@ I wouldn’t leave them alone until they got it right
This is interesting, though we have a small power station for our phones and plugging it in while driving is fine. Our trailer has 3 way appliances, so that little propane generator you reviewed is good for rain and the Northwoods.
Good video Rick, and I purchased this item on sale but very expensive I thought, also to cold for an install right now. I am sure it will perform as you described, and would be valuable for the on the road lifestyle suck as a trucker. Will give you an update when we are out traveling again in May.
When it gets below 45F my fingers don't work either!
@@gonagain We might see 45f until March, same weather as your home base.
Very, very informative & THANK U, SO MUCHO.....😊
Have renogy 50 amp dc to dc works OK for my setup looking change out for more amps great video
Best to still bring a small generator. Be mindful that the vehicles emissions hardware may not like the excessive idling.
The world will still be here after you are gone. Nothing lives and I mean nothing lives without carbon. Go back to science (not a man can be a woman) but real science about how every plant, tree, grass or green needs carbon to produce oxygen. We dont need carbon but we need oxygen. This green shit is going to kill everybody. Now they are talking about blocking out the sun when all plants need photosynthesis to create the oxygen we breathe. Imogen wont work.
The new Charger-1 didn't work with my AC180. Apparently there's a known issue with the DC charging port on the AC180, power is limited to approximately 270W on some units (Charger-1 27v out voltage). I've done all the latest firmware updates. The AC180 AC turbo charging mode works great but the DC charging port sucks. I'll probably keep the new Charger-1 because 270W is better than the normal 12v 100W cig-lighter charge level.
I have the AC180 and it takes 500watts from the Charger 1. I assume you adjusted the voltage on the Charger 1 up to 50VDC to match the input limit of the AC180?
@@gonagain Hi Rick, I've spent 4 hours troubleshooting my problem. I created a 2 foot cable for the DC input to the Charger-1 and then connected that directly to my battery, this works perfectly (500W power @56v). When I use the long cable Bluetti provided, it only charges with ~260W max. I don't think the Bluetti cable is defective, rather, I think the Charger-1 I received has something wrong with it. I'm going to ask Bluetti for a replacement or refund. Thanks.
nice device and thank you for the review
Ive been thinking about a power station [just because]
many RV Ive had do have inverters built into them and yeah I charge up as im pulling [but]
when parked the RV wasnt connected to the truck {TV} (I ve had a few)
& the RV isnt always with me - - - -
so I got an inverter and installed it in the rig, ran the 12v DC wires and it is under the passenger seat.
its a cool thing & I bought it from harbor freight [price varies by size of the inverter] (from 50 to 200 usd)
I have a 400 watt installed now and not as fancy, but It runs various power tools and laptop + various devices while im putting along [or at idle] used it to recharge various batteries. [the unit has a few outputs]
choices of AC or DC
my solar is good, but yeah a few clouds n it takes longer.
your device looks safer and is quicker, but mine was under $99 on sale + my install costs.
it came with alligator clips. but I dont use those. the right wire, a fuse or two & its been a few years providing AC [115v] several years now. aluminum case w/fan, over & under protection [so it is safe]
it monitors my battery in the rig so it can still start the truck [I have to turn it off & on manually as I like to start the engine 1st]
It is slower than yours, maybe I can upgrade(?)
I don't know. Will this charger bake pies? Pies are the key. If so, I'm sold.
No, dang it.
Has the jury decided if this is harmful to the alternator in the long run? I would like to try this.
It's designed by Bluetti to protect your alternator.
Thx.
I purchased one for my van and it was working fine for about one month and then stopped working. Am going to the Quartzsite RV show and see if Bluetti is there so maybe they can test it for me or replace it under warranty. Thanks for the video, Rick
I hope they're there because that would be convenient.
@gonagain they are in the big tent 🎪 and have two spaces. I'll go next week.
At that price, I'd just install an inverter on the truck. Yes, slightly less efficient but would not make much of a difference and might even charge some power stations faster. Then you would have a way to run power tools, chargers etc when away from your trailer without needing to move the power station. A decent 1200W inverter is half the price of the booster.
I think you would need something to protect the alternator from constantly maxing it out while driving.
Right now its on sale for about $250.00, and why go from DC, to AC, to go back to DC for charging current for your AC power station? Along with the ability to set the device to shut down when car is not running automatically, and adjust and keep tabs on it with the phone app?
Wonder how much charge the alternator would put out at an idle. Like if you just wanted to charge sitting still in a camp.
With both our Yukon and the Silverado it puts out the same as it does at cruise.
Nice to know.😊
I wish that would work on our car. Sadly it has to have an alternator and our rav4 plug in hybrid doesn’t have an alternator, or a starter for that matter. I think I will just get another battery and keep the battery plugged into the Oupes .
Thanks very much for this video! Should be easy in my 2023 transit van, battery underneath drivers seat. Price has dropped!
A 12V to 48V DC Step UP Converter - 6A 288W Voltage Regulator does the same for $24. Just add a 12volt computer fan
288 Watts seems a bit less than the 560 watts that the unit is able to provide to your power station. And, you don't have to worry about draining the battery or a number of other safety features the charger has built in.
@@arnoldgrubbs2005 Thank you. Your right again.
Wouldn't your solar battery only accept a max amount of power its allowed. Example, my Jackery 500 only accepts 84 watts of charge power. So, although the Charger One has an ability to put out 800 watts (guessing) my Jackery would STILL only accept 84 watts, regardless of the Etti output. Correct? My Bluetti solar battery I have has been the most unreliable battery of my three. I couldnt get the company to honor their warranty. I think I'll hold back and see how the new products are supported.
My a year or so and they replaced it and I returned the failed one to jackery. No problems so far with the bluetti s
Yes, took a month with Bluetti tech support to get my EB3A replaced. It took 2 weeks of messages before they sent me to a different support person that after 2 days sent me a return label. A new unit came in after about a week. I also noticed they have reduced the warranty on their smaller portable power stations.
App does not work on my phone and after weeks of messages I got actual phone logs to their developers and they just gave up.
The Jackery sounds like it is the limit at 12-16V. May be a bit more at higher voltages but some of the older, smaller Jackeries have a very low charge rate.
Yes, and you see in this video that the small EcoFlow would only accept 220watts. Larger power stations will take more.
So if you are going to be parked/camping in a place for extended period’s of time, say a week or two how ling does it take to charge it?
Thank you
Thanks for sharing this. I am considering getting one. When I was looking at written reviews, though, it seems that many were using the alternator off a truck or RV. Would this work with an SUV or, specifically, a Honda Element? I noticed that the gain in charging was also about 600 watts, while others reported about 260 watts. I am wondering if the SUVs are getting the lower alternator output? If it is 260 watts, though, it is still better than the cigarette lighter output which I gather is about 100 watts (one solar panel).
It will work on any car that has an alternator because it's designed to only use the extra power that the alternator puts out without overtaxing the alternator itself.
@@gonagain Thanks for sharing this. I wanted to double check this point before ordering one, since it is about four hundred bucks.
Greetings from Maine! If I own 2 EcoFlow power units,,,any advantage of utilizing the EcoFlow brand charging unit?
I'm not familiar with the ecoflow charger. Please do your research and compare the specs.
Why set the Bluetti charger for 50 volt input when your pick up is 12 volts?
The power station will take more voltage and will charge faster.
It's always the way when we try to make a solar panel or solar output video, there is no sun. But when we try to make a video on how we cope when there is little solar, the clouds disappear and the sun comes out the second we get the camera out 🤣
Great video. I have a power line running from my starter battery into the car where I can plug in a dc to dc charger to charge batteries. I wounder how the Bluetti would go if you hooked it up to a DC to DC charger, would the voltage be high enough on the charger to charge the Bluetti ?
You know I'm just not sure except that the Charger 1 senses the power output of the alternator.
I would caution everyone, prolonged engine idle is not good for any engine.
Every few minutes the increase of idle is needed for total engine lubrication.
There will be some that will have to charge without moving.
nice job sir. ..
Thank you.
I’m not to sure about messing around with my vehicle charging system when I’m out in the wilderness.
You really need it to drive back out.
Hobo tech a few years ago reviewed a pure sine wave 300 watt inverter for less than $40 you plug into the 12 volt socket. I tested it. It put out 100 watts into my Bluetti EB3 using the AC plug. $400 is crazy!
Thx, Im going to go check that video out!
I remember that vid and had bought one. We just broke it out during our recent ice storm!!!
I also use an inverter to charge while driving, way faster than 12V. Van has a 250m amp alternator, I'm gonna use it.
Great, thanks. I like Hobotech, have to check it out.
@bertkelly7650 you shouldn't need an inverter. I charged of 12v socket in my jeep and get between 93 at idle 107w while driving into my AC200L. I have a 200w panel I use most of the time but have the charge 1 coming just for the faster charging and not having to idle as long.
ALL I EVER USED IS A 400 AND OR 1000 WATT INVERTERS..BUT LAST 4 YEARS ONLY A GOOLOO 2000 A JUMP START CHARGE PACK AND THE GOOD OLD RELIABLE 12 VOLT CIG LITER..AND NO I AM NOT A SMOKER..
Alternaters are made to create electricity and are made to run constantly. To say that it will destroy them is a modern wife’s tale.
It's not that simple. A standard 90 Amp alternator will not supply a continuous 90 Amps without overheating, especially at idle when the cooling air flow is lowest. Will an addition 40 Amps on top of the normal load cause enough heating to shorten the life of the alternator? Who knows! It would be interesting to measure the temperature increase when using this device.
🥧☕️🏍️👋
Trucker here,if the truck has a sleeper it has all the fridge, microwave ,inverter, batteries bunk heater a/c etc.If not get a better job driver lol Also these have come down in price dramatically .
You are paying for gas. Solar is better for the environment.
As long as the sun is shining.
Well, you are paying for gas anyways when you have to drive places. Turning the engine to use it as a generator is different of course. But generators also take space and you have to turn them on and off, maintain them, and are noisier and cannot be used in the rain. And there are dc to dc chargers that combine alternator charging with solar charging all in one, so there is that as well.
Unless this video was taken back in the summer, you don't have a true test of the effect of the Bluetti Charger 1 on the truck alternator. The issue is the extra heat produced by quick charging solar generators in the hot days of summer.
