I love your handwriting and new envelope system! I think the best way to minimize the “chunkiness” is to trade in some of the smaller bills into larger ones and it’ll work out just fine :)

I'm new to your channel and am loving the ideas I'm getting. I've been using sinking funds for about 3 years now and it's been working so well for me. I've just started setting up my budgeting in my brand new planner instead of just keeping track in my head. It's definitely an eye opener to see where my money actually goes! I love your videos, so glad I found you!

I always wondered why you didn’t use your envelopes for sinking funds. I love this method, and your envelopes hold quite a bit of cash. The filofax personal planner is also a good option to keep them in if this binder doesn’t hold a lot of cash once you start filling them up with more money. I love this print btw. Take my money as usual 😂😂😂✊🏿✊🏽

When we were saving for surgery and didn’t want to put money in the bank, we got a small fire proof safe to store under the bed.

Are these vinyl on laminate envelopes? Love the new design and the chunkiness at the end is a great sign. Thanks so much for sharing.

Definitely open a savings account! Interest rates are still pretty low, but there are some that are still offering 1% with fdic insurance. Nbkc bank is one that I've used, it's all online. Marcus by Goldman sachs is offering 1.3%, and Ally bank is also highly rated. It wouldn't hurt to put it in there to at least keep up with inflation, since you don't know exactly when you're going, and it would add an extra level of security.

I have Ally now. They are 1.60% I think and they have bucket savings acct. great for cash less sinking funds

Put the Peru money into a savings account where you can have “Buckets”. That way if you have other things you later want to put into the account you can actually see what’s in each bucket. I love sinking funds. Have had them since day one - March 2018. Yesterday we had to buy a tire. The cost came out of the auto maintenance sinking fund. We are debt free mortgage & all. Sinking funds helped us not be come discouraged when things happened.

So yes, definitely put your Peru money into a savings account so it’s at least earning interest while it’s not being used. Also deposit stuff that isn’t used often so it gains interest too. You can have multiple savings account with your bank, but also know that a single bank will only back up a certain amount of money and that includes all accounts you have with that bank, so might be a good idea to open another account at another bank. If you know the sinking fund you typically ay by card, why have to worry about adding the cash into your account to cover what was charged? I have it where almost all my sinking funds get put into different accounts except for the ones that I know I will use cash for. Like for family day, my best friend and I pay cash for everything, so I will have that money in a cash envelope.

I started doing sinking funds, but I stopped because I felt guilty. I felt guilty having money put aside when it could have been used for a debt snowball. However, I like the idea of sinking funds. Any advice ?

Just have to prioritize what’s important to you. The purpose of these sinking funds is so we don’t go swiping our credit cards (creating more debt). So you’re still thinking of the future in doing sinking funds. Personally, I only want to pay my house off sooner. I do minimum payments for my car bc the value of it only depreciates over time. I thought the same thought today and was thinking... hey someone could rear end me and total my car. So although I make my home debt a priority... my sinking funds (daughters birthday and a future wedding.. Christmas) is also very important to me. Once you decide.. and if debt is more important... next step is to choose snowball or avalanche method. Good luck! :)

Definitely you need to put Peru cash in a savings account. The only thing I don't like about your new cash envelopes is exactly what you showed. They are too small and don't hold all the cash very well. Also, it's hard to get the money in and out of the narrow envelopes. I prefer accordian style folder. It's so much easier. I tried not using cash at all and going back to using my debit card and boy was that a miserable fail lol. I overspent and had such a mess by not knowing how much money was in each account so I just spent whatever and before too long, I was out of money. I went back to cash envelopes and it's so much better. If I don't see the cash, I know I can't spend any money. :)
