The guitarist wrote this song and album while he was fighting cancer. Not much longer after he died, my own brother died of cancer. This song and album is super meaningful to me. Lyrically they perfectly touch on the feeling of facing ones own mortality. If intrigued, listen to the Song Momento Mori off this same album. It’s an absolute masterpiece.
Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry to hear about your brother! That is so tough. I lost one of my brothers in a bad accident. I do know how it feels to lose someone so close. I get how this song/album would be so meaningful to you. I feel a lot of times music is medicine to people. We will have to check that song out. Thank you for being here watching our videos! 🙂-Dallas
The back story of this band and more poignantly this song is wildly deep. Summary is that this was written by the lead guitarist of the band during his terminal fight with cancer. The lyrics dig into what it’s like moving through hopelessness and the loss of faith.
The drop of this album and the months that followed confused lots of fans. This album was their biggest to date, and they announced a massive world tour. 3 weeks later, they announced all the dates were cancelled. A while later, the band made a long post revealing that Tom wrote the entire album and had disclosed to his bandmates during the writing process that he had terminal cancer. While they were set to go on one of their largest outings ever, his condition worsened, and he was unable to do the dates. From a fan perspective, everyone was left in the dark about all of this for a long while. I remember being on the phone with Sam (vocalist) a day or two after they cancelled all the shows and asking what was going on, thinking that they were potentially breaking up, and this album was a swan song of sorts. He couldn’t say it over the phone, but said to check back in in a few weeks, because they were going to make a statement as a band about the whole situation.
This song is such a marker in this bands history. So great to see you guys react to it. You should 100% check out the live video version they released featured in a mini-doc they released. Live from Alexandra Palace in London and includes Dan’s speech from the night (the drummer in the band and brother of the guitarist and principal songwriter Tom who passed). It’s an unreal clip and essential viewing to get a feeling of the gravity of this song. 🙌🏻❤️
Coming back to say listen to more Erra!! They are extremely diverse. I personally love the song Cure but they have a lot of other music that is more up your alley!
I think every person or a large majority of us that love metal and screaming probably didn’t like screaming at first and it was something we learned to appreciate. I know that happened for me, hated screams and then one day it just clicked and I learned to love what they can add to the music. Don’t get me wrong I love singing too, but some sections need the emotional impact of screaming and sometimes that means it’s most of the song. I think it may help if you ladies were to pull up the lyrics on the side when yall check out songs so you can hear the words that are screamed better and that could potentially translate the emotion of those vocals better. Hopefully that makes sense! ❤
I agree! I love that song so much that I got the name tattooed on my arm above a skull with Architects' logo on the forehead, which was my first tattoo ever. ugh, I was going to request Dead Butterflies next but now I feel like I should do Memento Mori instead. 😣
Lol it took me awhile to get into screaming too. this is there best structured song in my oponion. Check out dead butterflies or royal beggars by them those are the lighter ones by them
I LOVE Architects! Which an amazing band and Sam Carter is such a talented vocalist. (He’s featured in a Spiritbox song btw.) I agree with everyone else recommending Dead Butterflies for more clean vocals. I’d also say Flight Without Feathers and burn down my house.
*Hi there, just wanted to let you know, that Alex Terrible released today a Drum-Playthrough-Video of "KOD" [ Kid Of Darkness ]. These sort of video sets the full focus on the drummer...the video was released, like other Slaughter To Prevail-Videos on Alex Terrible's RUclips-channel....* 🎵🔥🥁🔥🎵🔊😈
His screams are pretty much sing screaming like Chester from Linkin Park. For people who arent used to it it takes a while to hear the subtle differences in tone.
You should definitely consider getting some kind of context about the song either pre or post reaction… A song like this becomes really special if you know what it’s about. ❤🇦🇺
This song is the last goodbye to the world from a young man nearing the last days of his life as he died from cancer before this album was even released. If you can' t handle metal, maybe react to a different genre in the future.
@@rescueathlete5 you think so?? I will have to listen to that one next. I was considering either flight without feathers or dying is absolutely safe since I think that one is lowkey beautiful.
@@rescueathlete5 yeah, you’re right, dead butterflies is the best choice lol I guess I will hold off on requesting the song Holy Hell that I got my nickname from 😭😭

He left us with masterpieces like that
The entire album is a 10/10 masterpiece that's filled with emotion given the circumstances with Tom. It's 100% worth checking out
Check out truth be told by architects.
Alot more singing and its their early work.
Its beautiful

Royal Beggars is my all time favorite from Architects...a little more singing in that one. Phenomenal song.
Watching you both sync your head bangs to the break at 2:00 was PERFECT

Try Architects - Memento Mori (lyric video). It's one of the best song ever.

Listen to The orphan by Paleface!
His screams are pretty much sing screaming like Chester from Linkin Park. For people who arent used to it it takes a while to hear the subtle differences in tone.
If you want to hear Sam sing, listen to their song Animals.

this song would not nearly get the point and emotion across if it was all clean singing
I am devastated 😭 I would comment more but I have to go figure out which one of Architects’ lighter songs I like the most to request next lol
Lol She would probably like dead butterflies the most
