Had to leap in to say dave the diver was the sleeper hit of the year for me! It’s in my top 5 out of the new releases of 2023. It feels the most like a “complete” game with LOADS of content and new game mechanics and areas to unlock and a very sweet storyline! the NPCs have hilarious dialogue and I’ve poured over 100 hrs into it already! It has so much charm and odd humor and is just a really fantastic game overall imo.
I was so excited to play Fae Farm, and then when I played it, it was such a disappointment. Yes, I would have been more charitable if it hadn't cost $60. But for me, it was just such a shallow game. The story was short, the dungeons were too easy, and the NPCs may as well not have been there at all, for how much personality they had. I'm honestly surprised so many people love it, but hey, people like what they like.
Omg seriously? For that price I'd definitely not be expecting to have to pay for dlc just to feel like you have a whole game, I'm really put off Fae farm the more I hear about it and I'd been looking forward to it 😣
You know with gaming prices for me I keep the €1,-/hour rule. If a game is 60 euros and i spent 60 hours on it? It is more than worth it. ❤ stardew valley i.e. would have been 200 euros if it was compared by the rule I set 😂
I kind of wish they remade magical melody instead of a wonderful life. I just liked the note system and how that actually gave you goals to reach throughout the game (also the soundtrack is so good)
I'd probably rank Fae Farm an A My one complaint with it besides the short DLC is the combat. I'm used to double hits projecting you forward towards the enemy. This one, you stand in place, and it makes it harder to fight
Well damn. I knew you’d never play Palia again after you streamed it. But thanks for accepting my friend request anyway. My one claim to fame: “I’m friends with Pat from NintenTalk in Palia.” Lol. 😂Thanks for the entertainment this year, as always!
Enjoy watching you rank the games and I’m convinced! My most played game of the year is Fae Farm, honestly I wouldn’t rank it too high though I’ve enjoyed playing it. I don’t start off well with Dave, yet for me it gets better and more exciting after chapter 1. Please do give it a second chance, it’s really addictive. I got my copy of Everdream Valley after your recommendation while it’s on sale. I was hooked by the cute alpacas. Hope to start the game soon. My most beloved games for the year are Mario Wonder, Pikmin 4 and Fire Emblem Engage.
Poor Sandrock. I wish they hadn't released the game in that state on the Switch. They really did themselves a disservice, as Sandrock is an amazing game, if played on PC. Totally agree about Roots of Pacha. By far my favorite 2023 farming sim on the Switch (favorite overall being Coral Island, but no Switch release yet). Yet, I think Pacha is the one farming sim that would have totally benefited from combat. Dave the Diver might be one of the best games of 2023, let alone one of the best cozy games. You should definitely play that one more!
Okay, challenge for you: Replay Pikmin 4. I know you said the replay value was just eh… but I’ve replayed it like 4 times and enjoy it more each time. Just try a replay.
I WISH Pacha had combat, it looks so good if it only had that one element. Without any combat at all I can’t image playing it.. I so hope they make a sequel or patch with optional combat
I think the game is more unique because it doesn't have combat. For me it wouldn't fit with the peaceful vibe of the game. Stardew's mines are fun but very stressful. Not having to fight off flying bugs constantly made Roots of Pacha a more soothing experience. Though I understand lots of people prefer combat (I play lots of action rpgs myself), but sometimes it's nice to not worry about it.
@@mewichigo3410 it makes more sense for stardew valley to not have combat. It takes place in modern times, combat just feels out of place in modern setting. In Roots of Pacha however, combat fits there perfectly.
i must have missed your paleo pines playthrough!! i absolutely love the game but there are a lot of things that could be done better, but the dinos are what keeps me coming back
23:54 you had me at first ngl.. Tears is my first ever Zelda game and I'm in love.. i also need to go back to finish it but it's incredible.. Nintendo has really outdone themselves this year with all their releases I totally understood your rating of AWL.. i know it's a miss for some but for me, it'd be S as it's my go to calming game.. when i play a game that stresses me out, I'll go to AWL to truly chill 😂 With all I've heard of Anthos, I actually plan to play it and I can't believe I would say such a thing I love hearing your thoughts on games! Please keep doing it! 🙌🏼
I watched when you played Sandrock with the demo version, but I bet you didn't try it again after that. After 1.0.4 update, the game looked so much better, I'm over 125 hours playing it on switch and loving it. The performance is not that bad for me, there are fps drops, lags, but overall, it is not unplayable. I agree with Pacha, it needs combat.
@@NintenTalk yeah, it's not everyones cup of tea. But although I'm loving it, I still wouldn't recommend the switch version, not because of the performance but because of the cuts made by the devs, there are a lot of limits, things that can be placed, planting, size upgrade of the house, etc.
I saw the titled and clicked, dropped my phone and accidentally slid towards the end and saw TOTK at the top and was SO confused how i missed the idea that it was supposed to be a cozy game 😂 had fix and watch fron the beginning to see the reasoning to totk being the best cozy game of the year
Was so disappointed with Sandrocks performance as was really looking forwards to it. Fae farm is better than i expected so far but im only a few hours in. It reminds me of 'Wildflower' if you liked that (I didn't. But I prefer this).
I tried out Mail Time and I ended up refunding it bc it was confusing how there wasn't exactly a map (it didn't pin where you were), it's super cute but wish it had more QoL. Maybe it's just bc I'm not used to exploring in games much haha Paleo Pines is S to me, only got it a month ago but have 135 hours. It for sure offers that Pokemon shiny hunting itch which is why I enjoy it a lot. Fae Farm is A, was S, but the dlc is short and disappointing. Acnh and Dinkum were the only games I spent 200+ hrs this year. Others range from 70 - 150 hrs. I am interested in Anthos but hoping for a bigger sale like 50% which will be a while since this game did better than the previous Natsume games so I might have to wait for another year or two
I personally will say SOS AWL is C, but i would feel bad if the HM WOA gets better ratings so B instead 😂 It is nostalgic, but i 100% agree with you in term of modern games, it's really lacking of things to do. Even fish doesnt kept as different kind of fish :( (only small, medium, etc) But still, i feel blessed that it got a remake because i tried to play AWL again last year and couldnt find a right emulator. Plus, it runs wonderful on switch so yeah B Anyway, i kinda wish you would add Potion Permit to the list. Because the only reason i bought and play the copy is because of your review. I truly enjoy the mechanic and it's perfect for adult life. Easy to understand, fun to progress. Although i almost always skip the cutscene (bcs super boring), i'm not at 27hours and 51% in game progression. Will finish it before trying Hogwart Legacy Look foward to you recommendation because it suits me. Thanks and happy New Year!!
What sucks is that games like My Time At Sandrock are AMAZING on the PC. But on the switch? Oh naw. If it struggles with My Time At Portia it will absolutely struggle with Sandrock for most....But I hope people are able to play it on PC one of these days because it's great. I love the story, gameplay, and characters. It has basically everything that Portia doesn't have 😭. (That's me though! If you didn't like Portia you prob won't like Sandrock!) On PC? It's like an A+ for me. (They're still adding some content!) But on the switch? It's a D- LOL.
I can understand its placement since he’s strictly going off the Switch experience, which is genuinely pretty rough as is 😅 I’m with you, Palia is a ton of fun and definitely worth checking out, especially with it being free - but I understand the relatively unplayable performance on the Switch impacting the overall opinion. I played on PC first and really wouldn’t recommend the Switch version in the slightest rn lol. But I’m sure it’ll get patched up soon!
Story of Seasons AWL was a C for me, but probably because it was the first SOS game I've ever played, so it didn't have that nostalgia factor. TOTK definitely S, and Spirit Tea was a D for me as well. Disappointed with Spirit Tea, it had a lot of potential but ultimately fell kind of flat.
@NintenTalk hope you didn't take that the wrong way. It wasn't an insult just an observation. I wish you all the denim chicken and glue and cat food you desire lol
My Time at Sandrock runs fine on the switch. It was made first and foremost of the pc and the switch hardware was never going to run it as smoothly as the pc version, really sick of people making comparisons between pc and switch games and not taking the platform it was first made for into consideration! Sure it has some glitches and limitations but it is a fun game no matter the platform you play it on. But I agree if you didn't like Portia then Sandrock probably won't be for you. Fae farm was just meh for me (price was too high but I enjoyed what I played of it regardless - I did complete the story). Some mechanics were good(tool switching for farming) but it felt more like a poor dungeon crawler with some farming elements thrown in and the story was just there so it wasn't just a mindless dungeon crawler. Can't say much about the others. Suika is great, Dave the diver is great. I have no interest in Mario though and I'm weary of Harvest moon after One world was a disappointment. Thanks for the video, even if I disagreed with some of your opinions!
Palia is so good and I have no problem playing it on my Switch. It’s got a similar feel to Tears of the kingdom actually. Without the combat and with a house to build. Plus it’s free. Agree with you about the other few I have played from this list.
I loved fae farm (and had over 120 hours in) until they announced the frogs dlc then i just stopped playing. I hate frogs. I didn't like A Wonderful Life but i didn't play the original. I didn't play Dreamland but i played the other Kirby game and loved it.
