About 10 years ago, I would have said I was creative messy for sure! But I've found I enjoy projects a lot more and have less anxiety in my creative spaces when everything is organized, so I have certainly gone to the other team!
I’m pretty organized in general, and I try to do the same with my quilting. If I’m not organized I tend to make a lot of mistakes. Plus since I often have to do my quilting in short time segments since I still have to work to support my quilting habit 😩 it helps me to know where I left off and where I should pick up. Love your tutorials! 💕❤️💕
Love the comment "And who thought Geometry wouldn't pay off later on in life???" I think the more I quilt, the more ways I find to be organized. I love post-it notes. I always use those when I assemble a quilt in rows. And I use a lot of ziploc bags for all those projects that I have a started, but not quite completed yet. I also have a binder with all the cool patterns I have printed from Bluprint/Craftsy. Manila folders for a filing cabinet are great too. I tape the edges so it makes a pocket. Sometimes I staple the pattern to the outside of the folder, and then put the pieces in there. This also works great for clothing patterns, which never fit back in the envelopes they are purchased in. I just staple the flap to the folder, that way I can see both sides of the envelope, and my pieces all fit in the folder. Beautiful quilt Angela!!!
I’m kinda known as an organized slob. Lol. Everything is organized in my sewing area, but when I actually quilt, I’m a slob! I have scissors, thread, fabric, markers ALL OVER!! I’ve only been quilting for a month, so you think I would try to be organized but NOPE! And you saying that you have flaws to cover?? I don’t believe it, all your work is absolutely beautiful!! I love watching your shows!!! Thank you so much Angela!! One of these days I’m coming to your shop! I’m from CO but I have season passes to Worlds of Fun!
I was so proud of myself I needed to do a little repair work on a quilt I made my dad 15 yrs ago. The scraps of the fabric I knew I had was exactly where I thought it would be. It’s the little things like that , that make my day 😂😂.
I have learned a lot from watching your videos. I'm a beginner quilter, but after watching you, I think I do a pretty good job. Thank you for your videos.
I am probably too focused on being organized, and at 69 have been working hard at letting some of that go! Watching you has helped me relax more with the process and still get results I am satisfied with. I have had a lot of fun learning to free motion quilt with your videos. Thanks for all your videos and your great sense of humor!
I have no organization in my sewing room even thou I try all the time. It never lasts for any amount of time. I love the rainbow quilt. The colors are fabulous. I watch the bonus video and I am going to have to add a hammer to my sewing supplies.
Mary Rose lol Mary Rose greetings from limerick ,Maraduke is the gremlin in the house who steals socks and moves my keys and shoes every time I turn my back, it has to be him it couldn’t possibly be me I couldn’t be that disorganized could I?we are getting a puppy in July so maybe we’ll call him Maraduke hope all is well with you and that your quilting is going well regards from Ireland Toni
@@toniomalley5661 Dear Toni my husband just said to tell you I have a husband and 3 dogs and non of them are organized either! My husband and his brother lived with their grandmother. When they messed up they told her Yahootie did it. 😁 On vacation on the gulf of Florida. Were so glad to get away from cold snowy Minnesota. So bad we have to stay an extra day because of more snow coming! Awwww! I've even been good and have'nt bought any fabric on line. Hope your week has been as enjoyable as ours. Mary PS Have fun with your puppy!
I’m in New Zealand. I’m artistic, untidy in some things EXCEPT when it comes to quilting. My threads and fabrics are organised. I cut and stick on labels so I don’t make a mistake piecing. You have taught me to enjoy quilting more than piecing. ❤️❤️
Yay! New video!!!! Not that I’ve ever made a quilt before. I’ve made a pair of slippers and a pillow but no quilts. Looooolllll but if I was an avid quitter (one day!) I would be an organized quilter. No improvisation for me! Perfectionist control freak here!
i absolutely love our rainbow quilt angela! You make free motion quilting look so easy but I am afraid to try it. One of these days I will bite the bullet and try it. Love watching your videos...you are awesome.
I'm definitely messy creative when it comes to quilting, but super organized with everything else. I know that doesn't make any sense but it is just how I work. Absolutely love your tutorials! I'm making the scrappy on point quilt for my daughter right now.
I love the wood grain quilting! I’ve never seen that before seeing a snippet on your Instagram! It’s so nice to see a longer example. I would love to see (and feel) one of your quilts in person.
I am what i like to call a FBTSOMP person.... it all comes out in the end for me and i have the joy of being "creative" in the process!!! A little odd for a 70 something,,, but that's me:)) Love watching you and enjoy every moment of it!! GrammaBabs
😂 at the beginning I am pretty organized, but then I always end up finishing my quilts different than on the pattern... But: No matter how bad my day was, when I watch you having this fun positive attitude in your shows I feel better and go either fabricfondeling and dreaming or I go working on my next quilt. Thank you Angela! Happy new year to you!
Angela another fantastic video thanks. I am not very organized at all and after watching you and Jenny From msqc on you tube I’ve been even more creative than normal, as well as a fabric connisour. Thanks again for your inspiration.
Beautiful quilt, Angela! I tend to be an organized person overall, so my quilting is as well. If I do not keep organized, I feel a sense of chaos around me that is unsettling, so I like organization. I already watched your bonus video, and appreciated the helpful tips in it. Thank you for brightening my after Christmas blues with your wonderful sense of humor.
I am a combination of messy & organized. I have bad habit of not cleaning after I finish a project and begin another. Hopefully I will get better about that. Going to watch the video regarding bulky seams. Thank you.
I tend to be a bit more organized than not. It keeps me sane! Each project is in its own plastic bin/box with all fabric and pattern for that project. I did watch the bonus video and may have to get my own quilting room hammer 🔨!!!🤣
Love this quilt. Lovely to see you enjoying the piecing more? Organisation. Hmmm. Well. Organisation is a cyclical thing in my life. I organise usually when I am procrastinating about some other area of my life. ( e.g.The plastic container cupboard needs to be organised when I am supposed to be gathering end of financial year paperwork. ). I tend to organise through piles and I do work one quilt at a time. I am lucky enough to have a dedicated space for sewing/long arming so all my piles are safe in situ.
I love the look of organized craft rooms, but I get unorganized quickly when I get started on a project. Just started quilting this fall, love your show.
Hi Angela. Love your tutorials. Yes I watched your video on bulky seams. I had to laugh when the hammer came out - not tried that yet but might have to give it a go 😂😂. Keep the tutorials coming. Jane from England
Ty Angela. You are so awesome and honest. Love it. Beautiful quilt. Organized? Lol. 😁. I may start out that way but I would not want anyone to see my sewing room while piecing.
I just happened upon your videos today while I was sipping a glass of wine and eating some popcorn. Popcorn not evident in this one but is in several others (which I saw first). Made me laugh--although I do prefer white wine (and I know someone else said the same). To each his own. And most importantly, your quilts are beautiful.
Dear Angela I love you so much. This is a great video, thank you for sharing it! One thing I've been wondering is what would Angela do with a box full of scraps that are random sizes and don't really match? Other than a patchwork quilt? Could you someday make a video where you use all your scraps on a quilt? Especially emphasizing how you get around fabric that doesn't really match and is randomly sized? Thank you! God bless you and your family this Christmas-time! -Emma
Not to take away from Angela, but the queen of scrappy quilting is Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville. You might want to check out her website. She's sort of amazing.
I am a dressmaker, but I love watching your show. I have made a few small quilts and a few larger ones. I just can not seem to get as attached to quilting as I am to sewing clothing except if I am in a quilting class or group. Maybe one day...
I like to think I am organized chaos. :) When I am using a pattern for a quilt, I tend to mark, clip and organize so that I make fewer mistakes, but when I am freestyling my quilts, I add as I go.
I think I'm pretty organized. I sort fabrics by project and store in plastic shoebox containers and cut pieces are stored in Ziploc storage bags. Fabric that hasn't decided what it's going to be yet is stored in a larger storage bin. Pieced quilt tops waiting to be quilted are stored in repurposed plastic zipper bags - the kind sheets come in. BTW; I'd love to see your take on a Lone Star quilt, Trip Around the World, Irish Chain, Dresden Plate or Flower Basket.
I use little plastic baggies to organize per block and then use my design board to layout the block before sewing. It lets me sew in small periods of time. It help me keep from leaving unfinished projects. I use sticky notes to label what block it is.
I am the OCD person whose toothpaste tube is perfect, fabric is color organized, seams are perfect, if not I take it out, do it again. For several years I help a women club make a yearly quilt as a fund raiser. I was the one putting all the squares made by each member. That included making them square. I love the challenge.
I love the colors in this quilt, too bad you can’t come over and choose my fabrics for me! I have the biggest struggle putting together the right fabrics. Love your show!
been searching for this pattern for a while now....anyone know where I can find it? I'd love to do the same color placement. Links from description arent good anymore
I started this quilt with slightly different colors... you're not kidding about being organized! I've got my stacks of triangles on my extra ironing board and it could get really messy if I'm not being careful.
Hermoso trabajo Angela, tu haces muy fácil lo que parece complicado, además que lo muestras relajada y amena, recibe mis felicitaciones desde Caracas-Venezuela, aprovecho para desearte un excelente Año Nuevo
Lol i am completely organized. I dont function well without it. Currently im doing a quilt as you go. I have each front color organized in baggies, my batting cut in seperate baggies, my backing cut in another set of baggies. The pieces that are ready for the machine are on the table. And finished blocks that are ready to be sewn into rows has its own storage box. Plus i always have,a place for garbage near my table im working at.
Am I organized when I’m piecing? 🤔 “It depends” 😝 No really, it does. It depends on how complex the design is and how much time I have to devote to it at a given time. I think I have a split personality. I’m a perfectionistic slob. Oh, and I watched your video on bulky seams. I don’t believe I’ve missed any of your videos. You are the only RUclips personality I follow with that devotion. I really enjoy the content you provide. Thank you for such a great channel!
I try to be as organized as I can in quilting and my sewinf in general but the rest of my supplies are a bit of a mess..lol. I'm pretty organized. One reason I love Elizabeth Hartman patterns - she is so organized and specific in her instructions. BUT, I am currently working on the Rainbow Bargello quilt from your recent episode and that is taking the need for organization to a new level. I am having to take it slowly in order to not mess up - only 2 pieces to the sewing machine at a time. :) I want to know where you got that little seam roller thingy. You always have some gadget everyone is oohing and aahing over in your videos!
