- In this video we finally get enough dry weather to be able to get some of our new herbal leys planted.
We have over 100 acres to get in but I make a massive mistake that might jeopardise our ability to do it. Stay tuned to find out more...
I hope you enjoy it.

I'd love to watch a whiteboard Wednesday video. I ain't a farmer but I am a farmer's daughter. You present information clearly and concisely.
Whiteboard Wednesday’s yes, be interested in cost of keeping suckler cows (per cow) if they need to be keep in for six months of the year. Love the content 👍
Freddie looks at home in the tractor! Lovely to see him, star of the show 😍
I for one would definitely love to see some more technical videos especially around the economics of the beef herd and your switch from arable as most suckler herds in the UK have very small or non existent margins. Be great to see how you are doing so well and how it stacks against the arable especially as I assume you had a relatively low cost of production on the arable side with the direct drilling and nutrients from cattle and grass/clover rotations.
It will be interesting to see if the area double seeded produces more. I expect it will in the short term.😊
I’ve just bought some herbal ley mix to go on at 10kg an acre so when you said 24kg I was panicking I hadn’t got enough 😂
whiteboard Wednesday as someone else put it is a great idea. As a farmer, I love the facts on cattle and grass
Hello from Scotland 😊
Great video, love the tractor work,Freddie is adorable, ❤
every day's a school day - bring on the tech, we can take it 😂
Nice save on the seed rate, pls follow up on weather the "trial plots" outperform the standard rate.
Technical/ Economics videos would be very interesting. Its always nice to have the how and why answered.
As for gps. If Trimble are to busy with Mr. Pemberton, then setting yourself up an AGopenGPS system could make some good (semi-affordable) content.
A perfect approach to grasses etc establishment. Make a seedbed. Then drill and level. ❤❤❤❤😊
I said in your vid on your big change , i am planting one of these SFI lays on a smaller scale because we are small , as far as i have found out you can cut these lays when you like , am i right or do you know any difference can't find it at all in SFI book , Doing the White board stuff is a great idea perhaps we all can lean a bit from this too , cannot wait to see these seeds come up , really really good stuff , and a good save on the planting Rate looks like you saved the day well done
Hey James. They have released a 2024 version of the SFI handbook about a week or so ago which may have changed, but 2023 Herbal Leys had no restrictions what so ever. Meaning you could spread fert, cut whenever etc. I believe the 2024 update does include a fertiliser restrictions but I haven’t heard of a cutting restriction. Under mid tier stewardship for example, you must shut the ley up for at least 5 weeks between 1st May and I believe 1st July.
I Drill grass seed with a Acord and I just lift the colters out the ground.
I would do that for a straight grass but ours still buries the herbs too deep if we do.
Hi James Nice one Thanks again
Yes please for an extra, in detail video. Personally I would like to know some more specifics on how to grow grass and what fertilisers do what and all that fun stuff. Love the videos and keep up the good work.
Hi James, yes please
, more videos are always good. Keep them c9ming. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yes please to whiteboard Wednesdays - costings for crops vs grass leys, EBVs, farm profit and loss, rising costs over recent years, wintering costs for cattle, grass yields and feed value etc etc - thanks
It is really great seeing farming in the UK
Thanks William, glad you’re enjoying it. 😊
I'd like to learn what i can for farming, bring on the videos
Would love whiteboard Wednesdays! Great videos and some more technical info would be fantastic
Loved the video James. Great work and done a great job with the seeder.
Hi James, the extra videos about how and why you are doing stuff would be great. Grazing, ebv, bulling and ai would be awesome. John
8:03 Make sure you wait till August to clear the margins. Take the wildflower and grass seed with you.
whiteboard Wednesday sounds like fun to me!
Definitely up for some whiteboard Wednesdays James 👍
I want to see whiteboard Wednesday, the farm management side in what you do is what is missing on other channels.
I'd love for you to do the whiteboard Wednesday, I want to learn more so I can have more experience.
White board Wednesday sounds great
whiteboard Wednesdays.........................................fantastic idea!!!!

Would be interested in the white board videos be good to watch listen and learn
I’d say go with the Wednesday video
The more technical the video the better
Surprising how much the steel posts have rusted in the silage pit. You should paint them every year, paint will be cheaper thain replacing the post.
Whiteboard wednesdays for the win
Interested in all aspects tech and fun bits
I’ve got a man who I use to contact you about sat nav 👍🏻
Cattle nutrition video would be interesting.. 👍
Roll on Wednesdays😂
I would like a technical Wednesday
I opened 37 bags of grass seeds last week and only failed in one bag, does that mean I have super powers
Go for a Wednesday video!
Today I learned it’s not Herbal Lay
