    I've been sewing pieces together for the past couple of days or so. Was getting a little frustrated with how the seams would never lay out flat when I went to sew them together as I sewed the pieces going in different directions. With how you're already sewing the pieces on the "base," it seems to make the seams lay flat at each end or side. I appreciate your instructions and advice on making this kind of crazy quilt "fabric." TYSM for sharing this video with us. 👍😉😍

      @@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts I've made a huge pile of 7.5" scrappy blocks. I want to join them but think 2.5" sashing would be too thick. Do you think I should cut 1" strips or 1.5" strips for sashing?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  Год назад +1

      I think 1” strips will be too small. By the time you sew the seam allowances there won’t be much left of the sashings. But there are no right or wrongs as far as I am concerned. It’s really what you like. If you want it to look more like a small accent border or like a matt framing your squares. I would place your sashing material on the table and place your squares on top at different widths that would be possible sashing widths and then step back and have a look. You will see what you like best.

      It assists in making flatter and straighter seams as well as you can get a good sense of how your square is turning out as you have the foundation as a guide. I also find it easier to sew to a base than just 2 pieces of fabric together.

    I think perhaps you might try a different type of needlework.

      I could have shown a lot more stitches in my second video for sure. Because Oma started with the herringbone I wanted to continue in her honour.

    I was told if you do a lot of the pressing open in time it can come apart. Cant you just press to the dark side?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  Год назад

      It really is a personal choice. It is a tradition to also add hand embroidery to the seams so there is lots of re-enforcement and is easier done and less bulk if the seams are open.
      If you are not doing any embroidery than you can consider pressing to the dark side but sometimes it can create too much bulk. There are always variations on how to do things when sewing and quilting.

    Can't you just make them without that muslin fabric. Thank you for showing us how to do this?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  Год назад +1

      You can but it really helps to have the size of the square you are making and it helps to create the design so you can see where the next shape will fit. It also helps gives you more stability for your quilt.
