agreed my dude. The game ramps up DRASTICALLY post plantera and golem. Frost moon, pumpkin moon, martians, enhanced dungeon, enhanced old one's army, empress of light, boss drops themselves and then the pillars loot. I really wish they more evenly distributed some of the stuff around hardmode or added one or two bosses after Plantera/golem to flesh out the amount of content in a similar power area.
In my opinion it is worth making Old One's Army post-planter or even post-mechanical, because the stage at which the best pre-moonlord weapon remains only Cultist-Lunatic, which at least with a wooden bow is not difficult to beat, this weapons becomes useless, especially beat Betsy without getting the right amount of medals before that is not so easy.
I never liked how haphazardly Moonlord was added into the progression chain. Redigit did this thing in 1.2 where they kept adding content post Plantera/Golem. Stuff like the dungeon chests, and the moons. Even Fishron was post Plantera in terms of difficulty. Even if they were optional, there was an implied progression path. Then 1.3 kind of just tacked on pillars/Moonlord after Golem without considering the previous meta. My biggest complaint with 1.4 is that it never addressed how top heavy gear have become post Plantera.
I never liked that all post plantera items are replaced after the pillars. But the bat septer is insane, it used to have far more bars spawn too, used to be best in slot in 1.2
I just recently finished a mage build playthrough, and legitimately used this for the first time in probably years at this point. Used it mainly against duke fishron and jeeze it was absolutely insane. One of the easiest "at level" kills of duke I ever had. Though I do agree with the notion that it can get out paced rather quickly, because while it can be super useful against duke and probably EoL as well, both the razorblade typhoon and nightglow out perform it in basically all scenarios.
You should make a video on " the boss that breaks terraria progression" or something and give your recommendation/advice on how to beat Duke fishron with the 4 main classes.
IMO pillar weapons should of been made post moonlord, requiring luminite (and upscaled as such) making you think about what to use against moonlord, instead of picking which out of the two options presented for your class. The sheer variety of weapons post plantera would then actually matter instead of picking your weapon to just replace immediately anyway, especially with cultists being easy enough to beat without even upgrading your weopon at all
What's also dope about the Bat Scepter is how LOW mana it consumes, 6 mana and that's without accessories or reforges that can decrease mana consumption.
True, this weapon is underrated. But that's for a reason. Cultist takes reduced damage from it, and Golem is so easy that you don't need to do the Pumpkin Moon before it. Plus pre-Golem PMoon is hard. You could also use it for Duke (but there are better choices), and Empress (but duke gear is better).
I was trying to get my hands on a horsmans blade as the final ingredient to my awaited zenith, when this dropped and I immediately threw it out because it looked bad. I beat moonlord and used the meowmere to kill the pumpkings so I thought the bat scepter would be useless. Although it's not insane for the moonlord, it would've been a really fun weapon to at least try and use for low level enemy's and bosses like EoC, King slime, and queen bee.
In my opinion the best pre-moon lord weapon is the bat scepter. Let me explain, the moon lord takes an eternity to arrive (1 minute I guess) And if in you take down the pillar that is in the left, press quick buff and start throwing bats into the air, that are slighly slower than you, you will be able to stack 1 minute of 2000 dps Before the battle even starts. That means 2000*60= 120 000 of damage (enough to take the eyes in mastermode)
Back in console days when the finale bosses essentially where the pumpkin and frost moon because truffle worms and Duke fishron didn't exist yet I would use this to farm pumpkin moons and frost moons along with the razorpine with the healing Spectre armor but I'm loving the Martian madness magic items and the ones you can make from killing the pillars now that they finally updated it
One of the reasons that so many post plantera and post golem weapons do not get used is because of how easy it is to beat Golem and Cultist. I think that Plantera is harder than both of them(with the same gear), which means that you have 0 reason to explore all of the content since event weapons just overpower every other weapon you can get. I think a simple fix would be to first, buff them both to make them actually hard(no, not just damage buffs, but AI that makes me actually think) and make EoL mandatory, while also making it more obvious on how to get the fight the boss(or make the bugs MUCH more common, I dont have to wait all night just to get 2 :/ Even truffle worms I can get in a minute at most). This makes it so people actually try to get the best weapons on tier, instead of using their post mechs, or sometimes even pre mech stuff to kill Both Golem and Lunatic cultist.
this weapon is actually much stronger than it appears as spectre armor can help you gain an absolute MASSIVE amount of health OR damage using the set bonus
Tbh I think we need a mandatory boss between Golem and the Lunatic Cultist bc late hardmode goes really fast compared to the rest of the game, and weapons like this are good example of that
Once I got it It stomps EoL, Golem, Cultist and Moonlord Basically all the bosses in the end game It was a must get for me in my first real mage play through and it’ll become a must get for more to follow
Huh. For some reason i remember the bat scepter as being a summoner item that was inferior to the Xeno Staff, which i had already gotten by the point i was doing my first pumpkin moon, and thought was entirely inferior. Brain fart, and will definitly look at getting it when i go for the Lunatic Cultist in my current run (Drunkworld mastermode)
Here's my idea for the Moon Lord-tier upgrade to this weapon line progression: similar to the Stardust Cell staff, it would summon hordes of multiplying Star Cells to home in and attack. My thought is that it would be a captured Star Cell, so the weapon would be round and squishy, perhaps the sprite would be showing it be squeezed. Star Cells reproduce incredibly quickly, and additional magic could increase that, and honed to create a steady, bubbly stream of projectiles that home just like the Stardust Cell summons. It would scale off of Summon damage, giving a different playstyle for Summoner This is not really an upgrade, it just attacks similarly. First thing that can into my head when thinking of "Post-Moon Lord weapon". Sadly, the Nebula pillar seems like it doesn't have good inspiration for an upgrade to the bat scepter. The Vortex pillar has Alien Hornets, which fit better, but it's also Ranged-themed, not Magic-themed.
-Says the bat scepter counters the lunatic cultist's illusion attack -Shows footage of him hitting the wrong cultist and summoning the dragon Something doesn't seem right here.
