For those who don't read and understand Greek, here is a simple explanation: ἐὰν μὴ is a conditional element and simply means xyz cannot - (it's impossible) cannot occur except abc happens first. Jesus is not returning except there is a noticeable apostasy hence the nom article ἡ and (καὶ) the man of lawlessness revealed. You are being deceived and the devil is aiming to set you up for failure. (see Lee Brainard's latest video - rapture burnout) That's the reality. Be prepared; persecution, hardship, tribulation is coming. 1 Thess 4:13-18 was not written to 21st century, well-heeled, middle-class protestants escaping the wrath of anti-christian forces.
