    I have a question for you as an actor. Basically I am 14 and i am Ukrainian who is living and standing in the UK. I want to become an actor but I struggle with understanding which technique or types of monologue i need to focus on first?

      @christopherddalton  4 месяца назад +3

      Hi. Different actors use different techniques. You should explore different ones and find which works best for you. I found some techniques put me in my head too much specifically the more analytical ones (Stanislavski). It took me 7 years to figure this out. That's just me though. Choose a monologue that highlights your strengths.

      You need to work on your accent. It has to be either RP or American. My Ukrainian friend was rejected from RADA due to her strong Eastern European accent. If you already picked it up, you can move on and focus on other areas.

    Hi Christopher, do you think it's worth auditioning in my 30's with no prior acting experience, or should I just accept that the dream isn't supposed to happen? Not sure if it's common to have people in their 30s in a BA acting course class and wondering if I should just give up the dream. I wasted my whole 20s with severe anxiety/agoraphobia and don't want to let it consume my life anymore.
    The issue is, I have no experience, at all.. I just know I want to be an actor and it's all I've ever wanted to be.

      Hello. Of course you can. If you want to act then act. Join a class, do community theatre, improv, practice monologues, read scripts. This will help you prepare for drama school auditions if you feel this is your route. I knew people in their 30’s in school. Because you have no experience it will be much harder to get in right now so just get involved somewhere. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!

    Hi @christopherddalton thanks for the video. Kindly share any info about your experience post the MFA degree in terms of getting representation in the UK and being a working professional in the UK and in other parts of the world(if at all)? Does an MFA position a actor towards appealing and possibly getting representation from the best agencies in the UK or does it not work like that😅?

      It depends. If you go to one of the top schools here you'll more likely be seen by the top agents come showcase. Agents are looking at the new talent come graduation every fall so be sure to let them know where they can watch you perform. Strike while the iron is hot! Send out invitations. My experience has been more positive than the US. Because I'm an American in the UK I'm in a niche market. IE less competition. I've been seen more here than the US and had more bookings.

    Very good video. Hello I would like to know few details . I am 32 years old having a graduation degree in Electrical Engineering . I am from India. I would like to explore my acting abilities . I would like to join a drama school.Could you please guide? Could you make a video regarding it for international students?

      Funny we're asking this very same thing. You having a graduation degree in Electrical Engineering might make it possible for you to jump to MFA, not sure how that applies.
      I've been indoor my entire 20s due to agoraphobia and deciding to fight and come out my shell. Are you not at all worried about your age? I'm the same age as you and I'm paranoid about how I'll be perceived, judged or if ageism exists because I believe most candidates will be 18-24 at youngest, maybe 24-29 is what they'll consider mature. I'm 32, but genuinely look very young for my age, I don't drink, don't smoke, eat healthy and being indoors for 10 years worked wonders for my skin lol.. but I'm still afraid of saying ''I'm 32, yes, I'm doing this late, how embarrassing.''

      @ I am also worried about my age too. But first I need to get the admission . Due depression & social anxiety I used to be an indoor person in my entire 20s. Specially since 2016. Now I am also determined to do something which I like most i.e Acting . Also I am learning piano on my own too. We are having almost same life . High five . Also nothing to embarrass. We need to be confident about our decisions. Let’s connect to share our knowledge.

      @@Adi_Unplugged I used to act in my teen years, from the ages of 15-18 I done performances with my school and a local theater group, I contacted an acting school 14 years ago at the age of 18 and they told me ''get some life experience first'', now here I am pondering if 14 years of mental health based life experience is enough for them, haha! We are definitely having a similar life in different parts of the universe. You're right, we need to be confident in our decisions and respectful. I will say, I spoke with Guildhall Acting School in London and they told me that they have a 47 year old student currently doing the Bachelor of Arts course! So 32 is definitely not unusual. Most acting schools prefer life experience, so the average age tends to be 22-27 from what I'm now understanding.
      Hopefully you can make it to UK man, we can both try together! I'm looking at a handful of schools and planning to audition in 2025 to hopefully enroll in one of the September courses. Most of the Bachelor of Arts courses are unfortunately 3 years long, which being 32 years old takes up a chunk of time. It would be great to get the training, but we also don't have the experience to skip straight to the 1 year MFA course.
      I did find however that some Acting Schools have 1 year Professional Diploma's, although they aren't official degrees, they train you everything for Stage and Screen that you'd learn in a 3 year BA acting course. The choice is either 1 year professional diploma (not an official degree) and then working hard to get an agent and work, or getting accepted into a prestigious school, getting a BA after 3 years and it's a tad easier to get an agent. It's hard to understand if the 2 years is worth it, right?
