Yep. She was playing both sides the whole time. I am fairly certain she expected this outcome more than the latter though, as she kept pulling the emotional strings. Especially closer to the end when bringing up the twins' reason for their mother's death. She is such a wonderful villain, similarly to Ripley. They did this season so damn well.
I agree she always wanted thordak dead, but I don’t think she wanted to risk her own health by fighting on the battlefield. Why let yourself come to harm when you can make people die for you?
ngl knowing the significance of vax killing thordak actually brought me to tears, liams mother was either dying or had just died and since thordak killed vax's mother he used it as a method of dealing with his grief its actually very sad
His mother died a few days before the Return to Vasselheim episode, #43, (you can tell Liam's a bit off during the game) and the Sunken Tomb, #44, was the first game after she was buried, which is why Vex's death & the Raven Queen deal hit him so hard (he was actually trying to give Vax up and take a break from the game). Thordak became an symbol of the cancer that killed her, so this was the one kill they simply could not fuck up IMO. I was so happy they did it justice and it definitely had me tearing up, too.
I think it was safe to assume Raishan was playing both sides; and had planned on putting a foot on the scale of the side that was winning the battle to tip the scales further into whoever's side had the upper hand in the end. Its been a while, but i do believe she absconded with Thordak's remains during the campaign as well, for reasons i'm not sure we ever found out about. hopefully in that case we'll learn more of her motivations going forward.
Some of us guessed her intentions at the time and Matt later confirmed. I won't say, because I'm kind of hoping with the way they're changing things up that they let her at least partially succeed or maybe Vax gets a vision from the Matron, because it would be epic.
Honestly this felt like a season finale, when the episode ended I was so mad because I thought it was gonna be an Empire Strikes Back: ending on a terrible note and now we gotta wait for a year for next season. Then I remembered it's 12 episodes, not 9.
My interpretation was that Raishan was playing both sides, waiting to see who comes out on top and then acting like she was always on their side

Nah, she wanted them to win, just not too hard. She wanted the body for some purpose.

Sometimes it's bad luck, but Taliesin's luck is better than average. It's that he swings for the fences. Every time.
Raishan was honest in her initial meeting except for one thing she has no intention of letting that Runic Curse end her reign of terror.
20 years between camp 1 and camp 2
Read your comment and thought, Critical roll has only been streaming for 10 years... oh in game... I am stupid.
Never trust a chromatic dragon!

@@Aetheria60it does feel like they are allowing the villains to complete some of the plans that the team stopped on the table top.
