    I had a pot with a lump of blue rotten acrylic paint. I poured the stinky water out, scrapped the globby bulk in a blender, added some acryl binder, a bit retarder, a few drops of ammonia, and a little bit of acrylic medium in it, shook it for a couple of minutes in that blender and voila...the 30-year-old paint was like new.

    thank you for that great info. I bought a pink picasso on ebay and all the paints were dried. He did give me my money back and told me to just keep it. I know that I can order a new set of paint from pink picasso but they are out of stock right now for that painting. I saw you use flow aid to make the paint smoother so I went out to buy some and thought maybe I can reconstitute the paints. I did mix with water and have just been dropping some in and closing the lids hoping that will give it a start. After watching this video I will put some in undiluted and work on it and see how things go. Thanks for giving me more confidence that my thought can work.. Cross my fingers

    I will try and get me some flow aid. My daughter send me a Van Gogh paint by numbers and the paints are gummy almost dry. Now these are acrylic paint. I stopped using acrylic for this reason. I forgot to mention that to her. Besides the fact you said they look very transparent. That is correct I have gone even 5 times over same area and still transparent. You can see the numbers. For that reason I started using paint by numbers with oil paints. Easier to thin out and more coverage. Thx for sharing dear.

    I have a paint cup that was already a pain to use, but now a year later I notice some spots I missed on my painting and the paint pot has turned to a rubber puck. I tried your solution, bought some flow aid, and I've managed to break up the clump, but now It's more like mashed potatoes than a paint. I've been going at it for an hour trying to break up the clumps even smaller and I'm just making a mess. The pot is now full and spilling out. Should I leave it sitting over night or should I keep trying to mash at it?

    Hi! I find your video about using this flow-aid product hopeful for my dried paint by number paints. But have your paints ever become so dried and it's like a plastic texture? I really want to revive my paints but it doesn't look like it will be liquify :/

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  3 года назад +1

      I have tried it, and it eventually softened up enough to be usable, but it took some effort and a lot of what I did in this video repeatedly. Sometimes it’s not worth all of that time, and if you have other paints, it’s best to just replace the one that has dried out. It’s such a frustration to have to do that though, when the paints should come in perfect condition!

    Can I break clumps down with just water and or home remedies is the question of the person doing investigating?

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  10 месяцев назад

      Sometimes you can do it with just a little bit of water, but the only problem is that you can dilute the paint to the point of making it too transparent and unusable.
      My suggestion is to just add a little bit of warm water, close the lid of the paint pot, let it sit for a little bit, and then come back and stir. You may be able to loosen it up without diluting it too much.
      I know not everyone wants to buy {or can afford to buy} all the products that I suggest. I’ve just tried so many different things, and I pass along the things that I have discovered work the best. But sometimes you just have to work with what you have, so definitely give it a try with the warm water!

    My paint wasn’t as dry as yours, mine was still flowing, but it was just thick as I accidentally left the paint overnight with the cap not closed tight... I used some alcohol, the flow was much better, but the paint has some dried paint particles. Do you think the flow aid would work in my situation? And will the texture of the paint change to satin?

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  3 года назад

      I would think that alcohol would break the paint down, since the paint is water-based acrylic. Flow-Aid may not revive it in this situation, but it definitely makes a HUGE difference when I’m painting and when I need to add life back to my paints.

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  Год назад

      No, they are actually quite different…as I found out after testing 6-7 additives. 🥴 Flow Aid {or Flow Improver} is a watery consistency that you just add a drop or two of (usually diluted) that will thin but not change the transparency of your paint.

    What’s flow aid?

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  6 месяцев назад

      Flow Aid is also known as a “flow improver”, which is an additive for your acrylic paint that helps the paint “flow” across the canvas. It is especially beneficial for people who enjoy paint by number projects, but it is used for all kinds of acrylic painting. It is a wonderful way to dilute paint without affecting its opacity, because it uses binders that acrylic paints are made from, which is why it works so beautifully.
      The reason I used it here is so I wasn’t adding so much water and making my paint transparent.
      Flow-Aid is a brand name from Liquitex, but I recently did a video on how to make your own flow improver with three different recipes. Either of them would work to restore paint just like the Flow Aid did in this video.

      😂 Add some super warm {not hot} water and close the lid to let it sit for a little bit. Wait about 10 minutes & try to cut it, stir it and mix it up. Sometimes the warmth of the water can help!
