Currently doing an old paint by numbers I bought yrs ago. Grateful for your video
How horrible am I that I did not see your comment and respond! I hope you are still enjoying paint my number projects, and that you are still watching my videos. 🥰❤️
Am doing a paint by number painting now and it’s come with a couple clogged up so really appreciate your information
Boy, I didn't think you were going to make that one work at all. Good job! Guess a little patience pays off!
Right? Sometimes this gig takes patience and perseverance 🤪...more patience though. 😂
Flow Aid and Clear Gesso were gamechangers for me. Thanks for all your info. You are a godsend to crafters.
I have no idea why I didn’t respond to this older comment, but thank you so very much for your kind words!! 🥰❤️
I just finished a painting where one color was all dried up. I watched your video on mixing paints and I recreated the dried up color. It took two tries but it got it the right shade I needed. Thanks to your videos I was able to finish the painting.
Oh, I love hearing that!! ❤️
So helpful! It was relieving my stress just listening to the music and hearing you talk about it 😊
Thank you so much! 🥰❤️
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio Of course! Thank YOU
Thank you for this video. Flow aid is a wonderful product and really works to restore dried paints.
You are so welcome! I use it all the time when I need a little thinner consistency for the paints in the kits too. I can’t paint without it!
Great advice thanks! For me, flow aid changed a frustrating painting process to a whole lot of fun!
Emily C Same here!!
I had a pot with a lump of blue rotten acrylic paint. I poured the stinky water out, scrapped the globby bulk in a blender, added some acryl binder, a bit retarder, a few drops of ammonia, and a little bit of acrylic medium in it, shook it for a couple of minutes in that blender and voila...the 30-year-old paint was like new.
thank you for that great info. I bought a pink picasso on ebay and all the paints were dried. He did give me my money back and told me to just keep it. I know that I can order a new set of paint from pink picasso but they are out of stock right now for that painting. I saw you use flow aid to make the paint smoother so I went out to buy some and thought maybe I can reconstitute the paints. I did mix with water and have just been dropping some in and closing the lids hoping that will give it a start. After watching this video I will put some in undiluted and work on it and see how things go. Thanks for giving me more confidence that my thought can work.. Cross my fingers
I will try and get me some flow aid. My daughter send me a Van Gogh paint by numbers and the paints are gummy almost dry. Now these are acrylic paint. I stopped using acrylic for this reason. I forgot to mention that to her. Besides the fact you said they look very transparent. That is correct I have gone even 5 times over same area and still transparent. You can see the numbers. For that reason I started using paint by numbers with oil paints. Easier to thin out and more coverage. Thx for sharing dear.
I am so happy you found my videos. Flow-aid or some kind of flow improver is a tool I use every time I paint with acrylics and paint by numbers!
I also have a video about using 3 Shades of Gray for transparent paints. That is a GAME-CHANGER!
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio TY very much will subscribe and look it up. 👍🏼
ANOTHER GREAT TIP,,, THANKS WILL TRY THIS AS I HAVE SOME PAINT THAT HAS OR STARTING TO DRY
It takes some work, but it definitely makes them come back to life. ❤️
Hi.Melanie. Been away for a time . Just in mourning (still). Also had character surgery on both eyes 👀 & then further thing on my heart 💔❤️🩹❤️ making my way back to a new normal, with a my first PBN nearly finished, a back up one ☝🏼 to go & my husband gave me a Bob Ross set of oils for Christmas & broken bottles & unable to get refund so that will be my adventure . Hope you’re doing well. Loved this video..envisioning my PBN might be hardened by now, but I know how to raise them from the dead! (Thanks to you). God bless you & thanks for being out there.
Apparently I missed this comment, and shame on me!! I hope you are well and back to painting again. ❤️
I'm learning so much from you. Thanks so much!
Thank you for the feedback! Some days I feel like throwing in the towel, and then I get great positivity like yours. 🥰
Hi. I'm a new subscriber with a very important message for you. ;-) You call it "laziness" but I call it being "efficient"! 😄 This has been very informative. Thanks so much for sharing!👍😊
"Push it down in there, I want to make sure all of it gets wet" 4:57 Amen sister!!! But in all seriousness, I liked and subbed because your process looks like it works, but I'm working with a quart of chroma key paint and it's only a little bit in there. Wondering if I should just buy a new quart or spend the money on flowaid... I think a quart was under $30...
😂
I recently did a video with 3 different recipes for making your own flow aid, and now I don’t spend the money on the Liquitex brand any more. You may be interested in that video too…ruclips.net/video/occQji9_ZKY/видео.htmlsi=SwfUZr29yb04CxYD
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio Awesome, I'll check it out. I tried the flow medium that my mom had lying around and I'll see later if that works, and if not, my lead singer works at Michael's craft store so you can get like 30% off and the flow aid is only like $6 lol but I'll still check the video out and like it too!
Thank u for this video, I didn't know that the paint would dry out
I did this process before seeing this video. Had the same bubbles and lumps. At least some of the paint was usable.
As long as I can revive it enough to be usable, I will get what I can out of it.
I have a paint cup that was already a pain to use, but now a year later I notice some spots I missed on my painting and the paint pot has turned to a rubber puck. I tried your solution, bought some flow aid, and I've managed to break up the clump, but now It's more like mashed potatoes than a paint. I've been going at it for an hour trying to break up the clumps even smaller and I'm just making a mess. The pot is now full and spilling out. Should I leave it sitting over night or should I keep trying to mash at it?
I have had this situation and used flow aid though probably not as much as you did. I think I will go back and work with it a little more thanks to this video.
You are so welcome! When I have a lot of dried ones in an old set, I have also gone into each paint pot and dropped some FA and let it set a while. Then I come back to it. That helps when you have 20 dry paints.
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio Good to know, because it takes me 10 years to finish a PBN. 😏
As always great info!
I’ve reconstituted paints with water and glycerin (I’m still waiting for my flow aid 🙁)
I did take it out of the pot and worked it with a spatula. It did work. It seems I have been extremely unlucky with the paints in my 1st 2 kits!
I cannot wait to finish the 2nd so I can start with my Aanabanana kits!
That painting is so cool that I would definitely switch out the paints!
I know...I love the painting, but that’s a lot of work to replace all those paints... you know I’m too lazy for that nonsense. 😂
Melanie B’s Creative Studio where did you get that great long pipette you use for flowaid?
Yazmin Osoyo I know you may not want to wait, but I have ordered 200 to sell. You can get them on Amazon, but you don’t want to have to buy 100.
Glycerin (food grade) can be used to paint w gel pens like acrylic water colors & can blend so is a decent product but my two (learned from Melanie) gesso & Flow-Aid has just made it all more fun & if have a paint that dry, will mix my own!
What is flowaid? Where can I get it or can I make it?
I put water and work wonderfull,
😆 Looks like you could use a tiny miniature potato masher on that paint!
I wish they made one!!
😆
Thank you! Great information!
Hi! I find your video about using this flow-aid product hopeful for my dried paint by number paints. But have your paints ever become so dried and it's like a plastic texture? I really want to revive my paints but it doesn't look like it will be liquify :/
I have tried it, and it eventually softened up enough to be usable, but it took some effort and a lot of what I did in this video repeatedly. Sometimes it’s not worth all of that time, and if you have other paints, it’s best to just replace the one that has dried out. It’s such a frustration to have to do that though, when the paints should come in perfect condition!
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio oh i see.. i actually bought the flow aid and let my paints soak in it but it doesn't seem to soften even after a day.. i guess it really can't be revived because i haven't use it in so long! Only 1 paint is able to soften. Thank you for your reply though. I guess i really have to buy new ones or something :')
Always good to know!! Thank you!
It is time-consuming, but I now have a creamy paint. Maybe I should actually PAINT my PBNs instead of collecting them, and I may not have this problem. 😂 Well, in this case it came that way, but still. 🤦🏻♀️
Can I break clumps down with just water and or home remedies is the question of the person doing investigating?
Sometimes you can do it with just a little bit of water, but the only problem is that you can dilute the paint to the point of making it too transparent and unusable.
My suggestion is to just add a little bit of warm water, close the lid of the paint pot, let it sit for a little bit, and then come back and stir. You may be able to loosen it up without diluting it too much.
I know not everyone wants to buy {or can afford to buy} all the products that I suggest. I’ve just tried so many different things, and I pass along the things that I have discovered work the best. But sometimes you just have to work with what you have, so definitely give it a try with the warm water!
Can/should i use the brush that come with the kit over and over again?
You can as long as you feel like it works well for you 😊.
My paint wasn’t as dry as yours, mine was still flowing, but it was just thick as I accidentally left the paint overnight with the cap not closed tight... I used some alcohol, the flow was much better, but the paint has some dried paint particles. Do you think the flow aid would work in my situation? And will the texture of the paint change to satin?
I would think that alcohol would break the paint down, since the paint is water-based acrylic. Flow-Aid may not revive it in this situation, but it definitely makes a HUGE difference when I’m painting and when I need to add life back to my paints.
Thanks a lot🌹
You’re welcome! 🥰
My full dry paint is relaxing in lot of flow aid. Nothing happened until now (using liquitex) But I still cannot stir 😞
What capacity is your dropper you use for Flow-Aid? 1ml? It fits so nicely in the hole in the bottle, I don't want to order ones that are too big!
I can’t tell, because my lines are worn off. I had gotten that dropper with my essential oil bottles, and I just happened to try it in my Flow-Aid. I’ve recently ordered 200 to sell at my store. I did order 1ml, so I hope it’s the right size! I don’t expect anyone to buy a dropper only, but I thought it might be nice as an add-on to an order.
Micro-mark makes a miniature electric paint stirrer that probably will work for this. It is reasonably priced.
Hmmm, I’ll have to look into that. I love handy tools! Thank you for the information. 😊
Hey Mel ive been doing som paintings how ca I send you pic of it tell me what I’m doing wrong it’s not coming out like it should

Thank you
Will mineral spirits work the same?
Good information
Thank you! 🥰
Can you explain when to use full strength flow-aid versus the diluted stuff? Is the info I read about full strength damaging the paint not true?
The paints we use are thinner, and I use one or two drops. If my paint ever requires more, I will add a drop of diluted FA. I did a Basics video where I show the consistency I’m shooting for with my paints.
Is flow aid the same as "pour medium"?
No, they are actually quite different…as I found out after testing 6-7 additives. 🥴 Flow Aid {or Flow Improver} is a watery consistency that you just add a drop or two of (usually diluted) that will thin but not change the transparency of your paint.
This video about Flow Aid may help. ruclips.net/video/J5maYudYLw8/видео.html&feature=shareb
I do not have that fluid 8m just a kiss and I tried putting water😢😢
what is the brand of that flow aid???
The only brand who has “Flow Aid” is Liquitex…everyone else calls it flow improver.
I couldn’t find the links to the products you used in this video to make the paint wet again there is so many links in the description. if it’s ok if I ask, If you see this comment and reply can you please add the links just to the Pacific products used in this video please? 😊
The first two links where it says “PRODUCTS I USED” are the links for the products you need. Those are the links for the Flow-Aid and the stainless steel stirring stick.
The other links are other items I showed in the video & important information. 😉
Oh ok thank you
I don't have that so how do I fix my paint without it?
How do you spell it? Flow aid? Where can I buy it?
The links to everything I use are in the description below the video. Here is where you can find that information: ruclips.net/video/8CP3kkv3F4w/видео.html
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio thank you.
Is there any substitute for flow aid😭
“Flow improver” is what this type of product is actually called. Other brands don’t call them Flow-Aid, but they are “flow improvers”, and you can usually find them by that term. Here is another video that may help answer other questions for you. 😊 ruclips.net/video/J5maYudYLw8/видео.html
Hi hi! Do you have another name for Flow Aid? Im from Colombia and i havent haven't seen it! Or it's another technique?
laura Reina Flow-Aid is the Liquitex brand name for it. It is also called “flow improver”. Maybe that will help you find something similar!
Try looking up “efectos de ayuda de flujo liquitex Colombia” hopefully you’ll be able to find somewhere in Colombia that sells it
Can this tutorial work in different brands of acrylic flow mediums?
What’s flow aid?
Flow Aid is also known as a “flow improver”, which is an additive for your acrylic paint that helps the paint “flow” across the canvas. It is especially beneficial for people who enjoy paint by number projects, but it is used for all kinds of acrylic painting. It is a wonderful way to dilute paint without affecting its opacity, because it uses binders that acrylic paints are made from, which is why it works so beautifully.
The reason I used it here is so I wasn’t adding so much water and making my paint transparent.
Flow-Aid is a brand name from Liquitex, but I recently did a video on how to make your own flow improver with three different recipes. Either of them would work to restore paint just like the Flow Aid did in this video.

Can we even regain the dried out asian paints?
Yep! It’s a pain to do, but that is where this paint is from. 🙄
I can't find liquitex flow aid in my country 😢
I just recently did a video with 3 separate recipes to make your own flow improver {Flow Aid} just in case that happened! I hope this really helps you find a way to make it work for you 🥰❤️. Thank you for watching my videos!
ruclips.net/video/occQji9_ZKY/видео.htmlsi=eXIdl0vy5B1tZEcl
I would have returned it. Sellers should check their products before sending them out
I need a ghetto way to thin paint 😂can’t u just cut it with xylitol or acetone maybe alcohol
😂 Add some super warm {not hot} water and close the lid to let it sit for a little bit. Wait about 10 minutes & try to cut it, stir it and mix it up. Sometimes the warmth of the water can help!
Disgusted about the paint lol
