    They should make a solar battery bank for this. Could run it on a tailgate party

      Current: 120V AC / 60 Hz / 2.5 A (300 watts)
      Given the Nugget's power consumption it looks like you could just use a power inverter hooked up to your car. I read that freezers\fridges have a quick power surge on startup (3 times running wattage), so the inverter needs to be rated to handle that.

    I got one, but it's used from amazon, and doesn't have the connector for the two drain tubes in the back, so they just flop around with no way to hold them up. I'll have to zip tie them maybe.

    How often do you have to clean it and how much of a pain is it?
    Thanks for the review!

    • @thestuffandthething92
      @thestuffandthething92  7 лет назад +3

      It's really not that bad at all. You just need to move the ice machine near a sink and put it into clean mode. It basically just cycles some cleaning solution thru the machine and then rinse the cleaning solution out using the same process. In the manual Opal says for fresh tasting ice you should clean it once per week, but I usually do it once every other month, and even then I don't notice any change in the actual taste of the ice.
      Opal Instructions;
      4. Plug in Opal and slide the rear switch to the “Clean” position.
      5. The display ring will light up yellow and pulse. NOTE: Do not use soap to clean the water reservoir. Do not clean Opal immediately a er use, wait at least 1 hour.
      6. Create a solution of five (5) cups water and one (1) tsp household bleach.
      7. Pour solution into water reservoir.
      8. Touch the display button to start the cleaning process, the light will start to spin and you will hear water circulating. A er three minutes the water will stop and the light will begin to pulse again. Chemical Exposure Hazard, when cleaning with Bleach, use bleach in a well ventilated area and avoid mixing bleach with other household cleaners. To clean Opal’s internal components, complete the following steps: 7Care and cleaning Cleaning the bin and tray: To clean the ice bin, remove the ice bin from the ice maker and clean with a so cloth dampened with soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Dry with a so cloth. Do not use solvents or chemicals. The drip tray should be wiped dry. Water le in this area may leave deposits. To clean the drip tray, remove the tray from Opal and use a so cloth dampened with mild soapy water to gently clean the surface. Dry with a so cloth. Do not use solvents or chemicals.
      9. When the light pulses, drain Opal.
      10. Unhook the top of the drain hoses at the back of the unit. Then lay them down to drain into a sink or bucket that is below the level of the ice maker. Remove the plugs and allow the water to completely drain.
      11. Once water stops flowing, re-insert the drain plugs.
      12. Add five (5) cups of fresh water to the water reservoir, and touch the button. The light ring is divided into four sections to indicate each stage. Successive quarters of the ring will become brighter with each rinse cycle.
      13. Rinse three (3) times with fresh water. Repeat steps 7 through 12 three (3) more times, adding fresh water to the reservoir each time. (You may continue to repeat the rinse cycle, for as many times as you like.)
      14. When complete, slide the rear switch back to “Ice” mode.

      It's probably good to clean it once a week. Mold can start very quickly, especially here in Florida with the humid air

    Do you know if this ice maker is intended to be left on permanently? I have been researching other ice makers and one said the area the ice is held is not kept at temp and it will melt over time. The ice is meant to be taken out and stored elsewhere. To met this sounds insane. Just wanted to verify maybe that was a one off model and not the norm for these types of ice makers.

    • @thestuffandthething92
      @thestuffandthething92  4 года назад +1

      We leave ours on 24x7 and let it melt into the catch bin to trigger new ice to be made. I have a relative who runs it once a week and stores the generated ice in the freezer, but I think it takes away from the texture of the nugget ice. As for the noise it is pretty loud, but even though it is on 24x7, it only generates ice (noise) when the bin becomes mostly empty. Over time I have become accustomed to the background noise and it no longer bothers me.

    So many mixed reviews. I'm curious ... how's it still working? I"m curious about the noise. Sometimes the audio can sound off in videos, is that Opal as loud as it seems? I have a convection oven and wonder if it's about the same audible level. Hope to hear from you. Thanks so much!

    • @thestuffandthething92
      @thestuffandthething92  5 лет назад

      We've had ours now for almost two years. It runs 24x7 and have had no issues with it so far. It is loud, but it doesn't run all the time (while the bin is already full) and I think you just get used to it after a while.

    • @nicolehershman
      @nicolehershman 5 лет назад

      The Stuff And The Thing Do you have to move the ice to the freezer or does the bin keep it solid?

    • @thestuffandthething92
      @thestuffandthething92  5 лет назад +1

      @@nicolehershman Some people make ice for a few hours and then store it in the freezer. We just keep it running all day. It will make ice and then slowly melt in the bin. Once the bin gets too low the machine will start making ice again.

    • @jamthiede
      @jamthiede 4 года назад

      I keep mine on all the time. It will stop when the bin is full and start back up after the bucket empties due to the ice melting. I know someone else that runs it just long enough to harvest ice to fill up their freezer. I don't like the texture of the ice after it has been stored in the freezer.

    Thanks for your video. I so excited I just purchase one
    yesterday 01/02/18 can wait to get it.
    I had been watching one on Amazon and like you said retail $499.00 so I added to my wish list in hope one day I could purchase. Checking last night on Amazon and my wish list there the price had been reduced over 90% yes that's right. I can't believe it. Brand new Opal nugget ice machine in my wish list for "ready" $47.11 no tax and no shipping. Man I added to my shopping cart so fast and completed transaction. Checked to make sure it went though and got invoice and receipt.
    I wished they had more would have been great Christmas gifts this year.
    I can produce invoice to anyone to see the price I paid. Unbelievable.
    Take care.

      Hey Monique. Well what to old saying. If it sound to good to be. The deal fail though. The 3rd said the was a problem with my shipping address and refunded my money.
      We know Amazon storage our shipping addresses that they forward to them to ship. I called Amazon and told them the story and they said so sorry we apologize nothing they could do but they would report the vendor. I did go to a attorney office and have no recourse since money was refunded. So won't be getting one for awhile. :(

      xxplicitdyme1 thank you for your comment.
      I believe if this happen to you you would feel the same way as the seller did a bate and switch on me. Not honoring the sell as advertised say that there was a problem with my shipping address that we know that Amazon has stored on their system that is forwarded to the seller and I had the invoice to prove the shipping address was in fact correct. He just did not won't to sell the produce at the low price he advertised at. The seller false advertised.
      Me if I was the seller I would have own up to my mistake that most people would not do so and sold at the price and had a satisfied customer and ate my loss. And word-of-mouth is your best advertisement.

    I’m sorry but this is a piece of crap. Our first one broke within the first year of owning it. The company wouldn’t fix it and have us $100 off a new one. So we bought a new one and now 2 months later it’s now broken as well. They need to produce a better product.
