A bible like this you would want rebound when it wears out because of all the work you put into it with your note taking.

I preached out of a Cambridge Wide Margin KJV since 1974 (Water Buffalo leather). I lost it about 2011. Just ordered a new one in 'Split Calf Skin' tonight. The old one held up well considering, I put my sermon notes on nearly the entire New Testiment and much of the Old. 'Holiness' preachers tend to be pretty hard on bibles (it was my only bible for 37 years).....pastor Gary in Michigan

    Pastor Matt,
I just wanted to thank you for your Bible reviews and also to thank you for encouraging me to use my Bible for note taking. I have a wide margin KJV concord from Cambridge in goatskin leather which I found in the second hand section of my local Christian bookstore here in Perth, Scotland. As far as I could see it had never been used and was still in its clamshell box. Get this, it cost me only £10 and I love it. For a while, I could not bring myself to write in it as it such a beautiful Bible, but after seeing your videos on the 'Eagle' I jumped in and have never looked back. Now this Bible is full of notes and I use it everyday; for devotional reading, sermon prep and preaching. I have had it now for over a year and the great thing about it, is that it is unique; there is not another Bible quite like it as it contains my walk with the Lord over this last year, also through my last year at seminary, and due to its construction I imagine will continue to do so for many years to come.
    Blessings
    Rob

I know this is an old video, but something you can do for more note space is using Tomoe River paper as a "tip-in." I use the ESV "journaling" bible with the 2" note space and did this when my space ran out during an in-depth study. The paper is designed for fountain pens so it will take basically any type of ink other than alcohol-based, and is 52gsm which is basically the same weight as bible paper and therefore doesn't add "bulk" as regular paper does. The only down sides are it takes a touch longer for my Micron to dry so I have smeared it once or twice but not beyond legibility, and you have to glue it in-between the bound pages which is not as secure as if the bible was interleaved.

Thank you for the explanation and ideas on the alphabetical blank pages in the back that is always puzzled me and I wonder why they were never lined.
Because I know the blank line sheets follow..
I also have a 1979 or 80 Cambridge wide margin that has wonderful spacing and font size with a dictionary and Concordance .1977 version
Sometimes you see those in the 3 ring binder set up and I have one of those as well.. Continued success and blessings from mike in California

Well I went with the move to the NASB, keeping my ESV WM as well as I use both translations still. Something interesting I noticed is that though both my NASB and ESV are the current goatskin editions offered, they clearly use different paper, the print date is a year earlier on the NASB. Using the exact same pen, the ghosting/almost bleed through at times is far worse in the NASB I just bought, which is rather frustrating because of the money shelled out for it. I decided to keep going with it and not be so whiny, it's an amazing Bible still, but if you look at how the ESV one takes notes there is the minimal ghosting like yours (by the way, I use Micron 005, the smallest tip) but once again the same pen in the NASB is hands down showing through MUCH more, with blotchy spots signalling nearness to bleedthrough. I found this really interesting, and somewhat disappointing. The Bibles are the same thickness. I took pictures of a sample from each to post but can't post pictures on youtube, oh well. Thought you might find that interesting, the paper quality definitely went up when they printed the ESV. The paper also feels smoother in the ESV, and the leather is much softer to the touch than the NASB, though that will change with time and continual use.
I can't notice any worse ghosting from the text itself though, thanks to line matching.

Hold a party for the 5 year crash test review--if it makes it that far. I doubt that the bible will fall apart but the margins may be all filed up and you may find yourself buying a new one. Anyway--great review! Thank you so much, i have learned so much.
I would like it if you made a series of videos showing a systematic way of studying/annotating for wide margin newbies. It is a daunting task to mark up your bible if you've never done it before. You do have one 6 minute vid, but it is almost like an intro, i'm looking for something that would really go deep into details--walk us through.

Hi, I just ordered the Cambridge KJV wide margin in black calf split leather. I had concerns about how it could fall apart from use. It seems that the inside of the Bible could be subject to damage from use faster than the cover. What happens to your notes if this occurs? Can you try to repair the inside. I can appreciate your effort in taking a proactive approach to an almost certainty by using tape and getting a longer use factor.

I was literally just thinking yesterday and today "I wonder if he'll do a three year eventually" and for some reason I thought that it would be the spring, logged on here and say you posted it just a day or two after I had visited your page. I love watching these for some reason, I have the same Bible, several books have notes and underlinings but I'm always on the fence and wish I had bought it in the NASB when I did as I've come to prefer the NASB over the ESV, but they're so much money and with the markings now I suppose I'll stick with my ESV for a few years or until there are too many notes, I have other NASB WM's anyway but I've come to realize that too many Bibles is more of a curse than a blessing for me because I get too distracted of which Bible to use on any given day and become too concentrated on the ascetics of the Bible rather than focusing on the word of God. So I'm trying to mostly stick with one now so I can invest more of my thoughts and devotions into the same Bible. What a blessed problem to have I suppose.

Do you recommend going with the hardcover if you've never owned a wide-margin before? Been considering adding a WM to the arsenal. I'd love to get a premium edition like the Cambridge or Crossway Heirloom, but that's a lot of money to drop on an experiment of sorts. In his review of the Cambridge ESV WM, Mark Bertrand says the hardcover is a great edition.

One thing that can be done as you wear one out is give it to a child/grandchild as a testament of faith.
I realize some Bibles are super expensive so other options may be preferred. For those that are reasonably priced gifting them leaves a legacy of faith should you wish to do so.

Your “Eagle” looks wonderful... I love books of any kind that are; obviously loved and used. I’m certainly no where near ly as organized as you are, but simply cannot read my Bible without pens and Bible Safe markers nearby. A pen is always in my hand...
I have friends who literally cringe at the very thought of marking their Bibles...or in one case her Daily Roman Missal, as we;;... I, too have marked up my Dauly Roman Missal...and all of my Bibles. I can’t help it.
My biggest problem is that I am constantly switching from one Bible to another... I have multiple copies of the NKJV...my favorite...and the ESV. I would like to use only one for an entire year... maybe mt blue goatskin Nelson NKJV Large Print Trimline... my Personal Size ESV has a 12 pt. font that I really, really love... and my Nelson LP PS is also easy to read... I love them all.... The only way to use just one, is to put a;l but one on a shelf.
BTW.. I thunk knowing I am a total INFP, on the Meyers/Briggs Personality Sorter explains my inability to consistently stick with just one Bible ...
Love your channel.. I always come away feeling that I have learned something ...

I've noticed from comparing 2 specific Scriptures which are Matthew 4:4(But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.) and 1 Timothy 6:5(Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.) that new versions unlike the KJV exclude from Matthew 4:4(but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God) and (from such withdraw thyself) from 1 Timothy 6:5. Do your ESV Bibles do that also Matthew Everhard?

I'm not looking to be hateful or using information as public domain. I understand if you don't want to dialog because of KJV only people can be very hateful.
