My experience is that Nitrogen caused a lot of trouble in writing (clogged my pens, those sheen particles went everywhere after drying), but Vinta Blue Blood behaves surprisingly well. I'd go with that, or with Pennonia Kékfény!
I agree with you about Nitrogen. I also hate how the ink fakes everywhere and god forbid the flakes get wet! Blue stains everywhere...I hate that ink even though it's so beautiful simply because it's too high maintenance and I just don't like all of the mess.
Love these color comparison swatch videos! Felt your pain when you tipped the sample vial, I did the exact same thing with OS Nitrogen early on, left a large sore reminder blob in my swatch book 😔... Not sure if that's why I have shied away from high sheening inks and the Organic Studio brand? The only thing I would suggest before getting a full bottle of one is to write out a full page in your journal or planner to see what a block sample looks like. I found the high sheen while pretty in a swatch was waaaay too much for me in the writing when trying to look back and read what I'd written. Again, love your videos, and can't wait to see more! 🥰
That is a very good suggestion! I'm so sorry about your swatch book. I am glad my spill wasn't too bad. Thank you for watching! More swatches coming soon 💖
For me the brightest blue is Noodler's Baystate Blue. I dedicate a Lamy Safari, blue, medium to it. It works very well and writes first time every time. Baystate Blue and Organics Studio Nitrogen stain badly and are just too dangerous for "normal" use in my experience.
Wowza! The Vinta and the Artic storm are definite show stoppers!! 😍 I’m gonna need to get me a sample soon! I have a new Kaweco AL sport (F) that I’m having trouble getting to write properly (even with De Atramentis - I’m planning on ordering a few replacement nibs in varying sizes to see if I can get it to where I can actually use it. I enjoyed this video very much as well as your previous swatching videos 🫶
Thank you so much! I hope you get your pen working! I know there are some that take a little extra work to get going (I have a TWISBI that is is the same way). At least the replacement nibs are a fraction of the cost of the pens! Good luck :)
I don't have many blues, except ones that lean teal or turquoise, but I do like the DeAtramentis Blue Copper, just because it is so different! Sheening and Shimmering inks do tend to smear and leave traces behind just from reading a letter written with those inks, but I still love them! Private Reserve also makes a blue called Lake Placid that is very bright and well-behaved! Love your swatch method!
You should try KWZ Sheen Machine if you are nuts for Dugong Bughaw and Nitrogen. The sheen on that ink is just insane, the three are almost the same ink, but sheen machine just leaves the other two a mile behind in the sheen race.
Waterman Serenity Blue is more like a light royal blue. I like the inspired blu in a fine-nibbed pen can pass for Kon-Peki or other more vibrant light blues. Diamine is the king of Turquoise blues. I think they make something 10 different versions. The American Blue is nice. Noodler's makes a couple of nice blues.
holy shimmer/sheen-tastic, batman! i have a lot of blues to try in a pen for actual writing uses, but the one that sticks out to me that i've written with for prolonged period of time is Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-Iro-such a beautiful sky blue that flows amazingly (as you'd expect from any Pilot Iroshizuku ink) As far as which one I would get a full bottle of from what you've shared here...it would be the one I'd personally get the most use of which is probably Kon-Peki. While I LOVE the look of all the shimmers and sheens (esp on the 2nd page), I doubt I'd actually use them for full journaling or other longer form writing so much that I'd need full bottles. Seems like you have a great selection of samples that would get you all the pretty pops you'd need for a while. Just my two cents of course. Thank you for sharing your swatches...I'm enjoying following you on your swatching journey. :)
Thank you so much!!! I LOVE the Iroshizuku inks and have been tempted to purchase more full bottles of them (I have 2 currently) but haven't made the leap yet. Stay tuned for my next video since it features Ama Iro 😍 💙
"How does that always happen?!" *knocks over three more vials* 😂You need a holder! After I spilled dark purple shimmer ink all over my desk I never leave an open sample just sitting there anymore. Also wow there are so many bright blues; I've bought a TON of samples but only have three of the ones you have.
Right?! I have a rack I use sometimes but a single vial holder is on the list. I've seen some people use single toothbrush holders if they can't get a "vial" specific one. The more inks I swatch the more I find and then the more I want more. It's like an addiction? but a healthy one? Well maybe not for my wallet ha!
It is a beautiful ink but I have noticed that sometimes it has a long dry time. Has that ever happened to you? I haven't been able to pinpoint why it takes longer to dry than other times. It is beautiful enough that I'd dedicate a pen to it (if I found a pen that consistently helped it dry in a reasonable time without diminishing its beauty) but I only have a sample and can't experiment much with what I have left.
Both Nitrogen and Walden are wonderful inks. Close to American Blue is Private Reserve DC Supershow blue. I really like Dugong Bughaw. Some of my favorite blue inks (perhaps not bright?) not here are Pilot Iroshizuku Asa-Gao, Diamine Majestic Blue, and Akkerman Shocking Blue . I agree, Solar Storm is the best of the green Inkvent.
I have not had the chance to try Diamine Majestic Blue or Akkerman Shocking Blue but both are on my wishlist haha. I feel like Asa-Gao is a little more muted but still a beautiful blue color! Thank you for watching and sharing some of your favorites! 💙
+1 for your mention of PR's DC Supershow Blue (DCSSB). I recently trialed DCSSB, American Blue (both the standard and fast dry forumlae), Majestic Blue, Diamine Blue Velvet, and PR's DC Electric Blue. DCSSB beat out the competition as being the most well behaved, while showcasing subtle shading and vibrant pop. It is a shy sheener, but when it sheens, it is a nice metallic pink.
I wish I had the will power to NOT buy all the blue inks. How disheartening to find I have loved so many colors that end up looking the same coming out of a pen. 😢. These are so much my favorites ❤

21:13 Following a sunset is the Golden Hour, which is then followed by the Blue Hour.
21:11 my favorite part of the day. It happens during the monsoon season here in India.
Thanks for sharing these. Lovely inks
Wow how interesting! It really is a gorgeous color. Thank you for watching!
Oh the drama of spilling an entire sample! And of such a beautiful ink too! Thanks for sharing
It was a tragedy haha. At least it was only a sample and not a bottle 😅
OMG picking the perfect blue is so hard! Blue is one of my favorite colors. I too have a problem, I have to have them ALL
Right?! I feel like I always want to try a new blue and love it even though it looks so much like the previous one I bought 😂
DeAtramentis and Diamine shimmer inks are really on another level ✨
Aren't they? The new chameleon inks from Diamine are so interesting to look at.

My pleasure!
Vintage reminds me of Tesla Coil by Birmingham pen co.. it is a sheen queen. Great vid!
Thank you! I just recently got some Birmingham pen co inks from a friend. I'm excited to try them out :)

I will have to try the Private Reserve Ink! I don't mind the smearing honestly. I think it adds a little bit of character to the pages :)
Vinta Dugong Bughaw is literally blue blood, but usually used to say royal blood
Ooo thank you for sharing!
Birmingham Pen Company has very well behaved inks and sheeners. No smearing and wonderful flow.
I have not had the chance to try any of their inks yet! But I have heard so many great things. :)
I completely agree. Especially Birmingham Pens Bluebonnet. >swoon

I have been tempted to get Sheen Machine for a hot minute. But I'm waiting until I finish out these two haha

Get a ink sample holder. It will help with spills.
Yes!! A very kind viewer sent me one shortly after I made this video haha 💝

The Colorverse Supernova gets my vote!
Thank you! I honestly should get a bottle since I spilled half my sample haha

If it's a color you love than I see no problem in having multiple 😂 bright blue ink is very beautiful 💙
Vinta “Dugong Bughaw” translates to blue blood in english
That is so cool! Thank you for sharing :)
