Well I did beat mom with 1/2 a heart at the start of the fight! That may not seem like a big deal, but imma be honest, Mom is k i n d a difficult for me.
My blind Afterbirth experience: "Oh hey, a blue hole thing. Might as well check it out." "I'm kinda in bad shape in terms of health, but these items are certainly helpful, it's boss time!" "Reskined blue baby, pfffft Hush is easy." "...Wait what?" "DEAR GOD!" "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" rip me
The Hush's right eye shoots orange bullets. The Hush's left eye shoots blue bullets. The Hush's mouth shoots pale orange/yellow bullets. I have no clue why I like those tiny little details so much.
I will never forget my first time beating hush. I was a having a sub par run but decided to into the blue womb anyways. I was carrying the glowing hourglass and in the womb, I managed to get 4.5 volt. This essentially meant I could rewind time infinitely as long as I could deal enough damage. I grinded the fight for 30 minutes, rewinding time every time I was about to die, until I finally managed to beat him after what felt like an eternity.
I had a pretty bad run as Azazel when I first tried to see what hush was like back in afterbirth. I was just standing near hush at an angle holding down and letting go my left arrow key constantly until I had to move a tiny bit for certain attacks. It took ages but I beat him. I started with 12 black hearts and ended with 2.
The one true sound of fear and impending death in this awesome roguelike. Hush is out to silence you and stop your run where it stands. And it just gets more intense the longer it drags on.
The way that hush opens its mouth when letting out the blue gapers is representing Isaac gasping for breath as he suffocates inside his chest, and the eye beams are Isaac's tears, the boss, plus the room it's in, is blue, just like ???, who is Isaac after he suffocated, and speaking of ???, the level the bossfight takes place in, blue womb, is also named ???, named after the character. Also, the boss theme (morituros) means "They will die", and the voices making the "houh" sounds you can hear in that song are actually a representation of Isaac gasping for breath or coughing as he is losing air inside his chest. Oh, and if you were to look at hush, then at Isaac, you can see that they both look similar. Also, you can also see how the room gets darker as Hush loses more health, this is a representation of the light fading from Isaac's vision as he slowly dies inside his chest due to lack of oxygen.
This was by far, one of the most memorable bosses I have ever fought in this game. I knew afterbirth had a crap ton more content but this guy was just unbelievable.
i think hush represents isaac drowning in the chest. hush is trying to stop isaac to commit suicide. And when isaac kill hush, isaac die in the chest, And when hush kill isaac, isaac wake up in the chest and again start to die, (fight with hush). the screams in this song represents isaac's forced breath. that's why this room appear if you make all the run quickly. is because isaac still alive of the suffocation in the chest and hush represent that feeling of not want to drown.
DUMB THEORY TIME: Many people like to think that Hush is Isaac suffocating in the chest, or trying to save Isaac from doing so, but I like to think Hush is something completely different. What, you may ask? Well, let's go through the theory together... The first thing that strikes me about Hush is that it has many links with ???. Think about it - you fight Hush in the Blue Womb, a colour which represents...well, ???. Hush also has an 'X' marked on it's body - this is also the shape of ???'s eyes. And to top it all off, the Hush fight starts off with a first phase which is literally a clone of the ??? fight. (Which in turn is a clone of the Isaac fight, might I add) So this leads on to ??? - if we can figure out what ??? is, then we'll definitely be one step closer to solving the Hush mystery. So yeah, about ???. ??? is found in the final chest in one of the Womb endings. He's blue all over, signifying suffocation, his eyes are 'X' shapes, signifying death, his starting item is the Poop, which most likely comes from the fact that during death, the body's bowels begin to loosen, causing them to deficate - what can I say that hasn't already been said? Well, here's what. An interesting piece of trivia about ??? that I haven't really seen outside the Rebirth Wiki - we've seen him before. ??? and Brother Bobby were recurring characters in Edmund McMillen's older Flash games. In fact, ??? even served as a mascot of sorts for Edmund, taking this role from 1996 to 2002. Therefore, it's no suprise that he'd worm his way into Isaac's adventures, as well as Brother Bobby (in various item forms) and...Super Meat Boy, Dr. Fetus and Bandage Girl? It doesn't stop there. Bosses like Larry Jr. and an ending where Isaac finds Dr. Fetus in a chest and poses with the same dramatic stinger from Super Meat Boy (kinda)...it's even sealed off with the design of Ultra Pride. It's clear that Edmund really wanted to leave a huge influence on the game, bringing several elements from his past titles into one huge game. So how does this link to ??? and Hush? Consider the first phase of the Hush fight - a clone of the ??? fight featuring a blue Gaper-like enemy with Hush's face. But it gets even more suspicious when Hush reveals it's true form. During the second phase, Hush is *really* powerful - it has armour scaling to counteract your damage, it can shoot a large variety of complex bullet patterns and is also able to spawn several kinds of enemies like flies and whatnot. One of it's most famous moves involves opening it's mouth to unleash a swarm of Gapers that look like.... ...The same Gaper from phase 1! Just like that - he can spew out hundreds, thousands of creatures, all made in his own image. You know who else designed hundreds, thousands of creatures and unloaded them all into the game's world? The Binding of Isaac up until this point has been lead mostly and heavily influenced by Edmund McMillen. He reuses old mascots, characters, bosses, music stingers...even the plot of the game (as pointed out during one of Edmund's interviews) is based on Edmund's childhood as he tried to cope with a new, extreme level of religious faith. But now, in The Binding of Isaac - Afterbirth, the lead developer introduces a new boss that finally shows his true colours.... ...Blue. The Hush is Edmund McMillen.
when i played it for first time me : oh well people said its like isaac reach boss room of the first chamber me : holy sh*t that was hard iguess the boss wont be that hard too bullet king 1 wave cricle shots me : ok so this game gonna be like hush *rage quit* maybe never
Oh my god. I was almost to do everyting on hard on Azazel. I was messing up with Hush most time. But finally, i killed him with guppy, ludovico( sorry if i spelled it wrong) and very much damage. Now, to all characters!
+xoyawe Yeah I use a mod that replaces Rebirths rather boring music with the tracks from the Vanilla Version but keeps the new Afterbirth songs as these kick ass.
Hush is definitely the best boss so far. Such a unique style of attack, combined with his ability to resist OPness. Very challenging, if you can't dodge the shots that well.
+Aidan Carter True enough, the battle with Hush does indeed raise the intensity bar by a MASSIVE margin. Speaking of which, I'm just after beating it as ??? (perhaps way more disturbing than two ???s duking it out?) with tear-blocking scythes, Tammy's Head, Host Hat, Bob's Brain and Lil' Gurdy. Started with four soul hearts, ended with just one. And fortunately, I was still able to press on forward and beat Isaac to unlock the D6! (Yeah, I haven't had the Steam version of the game that long, although I _have_ been playing the N3DS and Wii U versions of Rebirth for a while, and I used to play the original BoI as well.)
The War screams are coughs and Hard breathing of isaac in the chest In the battle,Your vision gets darker, there is also venis in your vision, That both things are symptoms of Suffocation,You can see better the veins if you kill Hush of One Hit with the Chaos Card
Hush is a battle of stamina. It's a race to determine what happens first; Hush suffocates in the dying room that should be his birthplace, or you suffocate under the sheer weight of his attacks. It's a tooth and nail fight for survival. And that alone is enough to give me chills.
0:48 is easily my favorite part, I can only dream of creating boss fight music that so perfectly captures both fighting spirit and spine-chilling fear, like this track manages to achieve!
Great damn theme. Got on the game so damn late, decided to try it during lockdown. The other bosses are cool but none put off a sense of dread/death like hush.
I remember my first Isaac run in afterbirth I was in a pretty swell position (pretty stupid synergies and accidentally grabbing stop watch) and I saw this new corridor open. I had no idea what the hell this thing was but it was one hell of a ride for me to see a boss as fun as this one that would finally put up a fight despite my OPness.
+Beef n Gravy same goes for me. i have seen this unnormal entrance while i played lilith my first time on hard mode and then this boss^^ good that i had shielded tears otherwise he would have killed me :D
To me, Hush is the only *real* boss that you face. most other bosses are representations of aspects that arent exactly physical, but Hush is, he is the literal manifestation of Issac's pending demise. And Issac never beats him.
Actually, Hush is the Isaac´s mind trying to wake him up before he DIES in the chest, he represents his asphyxia, that is the reason of why he is blue coloured... After beating him, you need to fight "Delirium", wich is the Isaac mind getting insane, creating allusinations and making of his mind a Chaos, that is why the Void is a mix of the whole basements, and at the same reason, that is why he is a weird mix of all the bosses
I do believe hush is a representation of a child that suffocated under a pillow (can’t remember what it’s called) basically it was a child either deliberately or accidentally suffocated by their mother (which does happen often) this does emphasize the saying “hush” as in going I sleep... forever
Sooo... Here's my first encounter with Hush: First, I got Guppy and Fish Tail (I was Azazel, my "scout for new places"), and so, I entered Blue Womb. First problem, I had 5 keys. I opened the shop to see if there were any keys there. There weren't. Next, one of the chests had TAMMY'S HEAD. Which I grabbed after debating if I should keep Guppy's Paw for the extra 6 soul hearts it could give me. I entered the boss room and the first phase wasn't much problem (it was my first time fighting Blue Baby, so I didn't know much of how he moved) Then... Came the second phase. I used Tammy's head and... I was too far away so it missed completely. (The only other time I got Tammy's Head was also with Azazel, but I also grabbed the normal Brimstone, so it had normal Brimstone range) Great start, but I tried going on... I died. Did pretty good for a first time, I think. Got him to around 1/4 of his health. Maybe if I didn't screw up so badly with Tammy's Head, I could've beat Hush in my first try! Hahaha... ha... Nah, the next floor would have finished me off most likely.
+AzureMajora Probably worth donating 879 coins to the greed machine first just so you can start with the holy mantle. It was the only way I managed it. The extra security never hurts.
I'm pretty sure Brimstone + Ludovico Technique + Lost Contact is the counter for just about any bullet hell style boss in Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Most notably: Mom's Heart/It Lives.
Today I defeated Hush for the first time! And it was with Blue Baby (sadly I couldn’t unlock the D6 for Isaac because I forgot you end the run the first time you defeat him)
if repentance didn't give us dogma and beast, Hush would be my favorite boss, i just love how pure skill he is, such a hard but not bullshit boss, he should be the poster child for difficult bosses
A fan of TBOI and his friend (that it's also a TBOI fan): -Hey do you know about Hush? -What? -Look. I will give you a challenge: Beat It's lives! in 30 minutes or less. -Okay? Later..... -(Beats It's Lives! and he see the Blue Womb) What the hell? -(Enters Blue Womb and inspects it) ok -(Sees the boss) Hush? -Is this another Blue Baby and Isaac boss?, ok. -(Second phase) OMG (HUSH THEME INTENSIFIES)
To be honest this isn't a bad theme, it's pretty great theme, but FUCK was it underwhelming. When I heard the new boss fight was "gonna make Mega Satan look easy", I was super pumped, not only for the challenge, but also for the kickass music. Like, c'mon: Hericide: The most metal ass boss fight music in a game, not to mention you're fighting the god damned MEGA Devil. Ascension: Fits the mood beautifully for the blue baby fight, one of the most emotionally filled songs in videogames IMO (even if it usually only does play for less than 3 seconds.) Then the Hush fight has this. I mean, it's good when you listen to it at first and are too busy saying "What the fuck is this?!?!?!?" to pay attention, but after a while it gets old and isn't very fitting. But I guess that's just my opinion.
When Hush is almost dead and you accidentally press R1 and use that "The Emperor" card you were holding and the fight restarts. based on a true story. i didn't live.
@@eryarer or maybe just give up trying with the worst character in the game? serously even the lost with holy mantle is better than keeper and his snail speed
During an INCREDIBLY good run, I once took down Hush's second form (AKA this form that plays with the music) in less than 30 seconds! Funniest thing? I was playing as Blue Baby at the time, one of the hardest characters to play with/complete Boss Rush and Hush on. Basically, I had nearly every awesome Devil item, a ton of high damage, and 12 Black Hearts. And I'm pretty sure later on in the chest, I found Epic Fetus just because the game was loving me.
“Should I be getting to this thing this early? Oh well let’s give it a shot.” I managed it by the skin of my teeth. I was so proud of myself. Game kicked my ass immediately after but for that one moment I was euphoric.
I honestly have no idea why, but last time i fought hush, fight ended after ???'s phase. Defeated before 20:00 in Victory Lap hush like... gave up? That was weird as fuck.
hush is the mind of isaac screaming to him that HE IS SUFFOCATING(because he is inside the chest) but isaac thinks that the hush is another monster of his imagination, the 30:00 minutes on the first run for the hush is the time isaac´s mind gives to you, the player to save him, and when you kill the hush it means that you DIE(if you se the screen in the hush fight, you will notice that veins start appearing and it starts getting darker, sinthomes of sufocation) and in the victory run, isaac is dead, your mind gave up, you sufocated in the chest...its sad...an a bit traumatizing, but it is what it is(what a plot twist, you are fighting whit your chances of living:v) oh, and dont jugde how i write, i am spanish :3 edit: it was 30 minutes, or 20?
cristobal zuñiga 1. i can be bad at english too, because i'm polish :) 2. i totally agree with your theory. i heard it somewhere else. 3. to get to hush you need to get to and beat it lives in 30 minutes, but i was in victory lap, so i got there quickly and killed him under 20 minutes. it might some kind of bug or you can't beat hush in one run twice. don't know, but it was funny, when he died after 1 phase :D
i remember the second time i attempted fighting hush, i had a pretty strong build, but got so nervous at the end i literally died as hush's hp was so low that you couldnt see the health bar anymore -___- two or so more hits and it wouldve been dead
Me: dodges all of every single endgame boss attacks including delirium without a scar Also me: *dies to a brimstone beam from one of those stone heads*
I don’t know why people hate this fight, hush is easy if you know his patterns He’s a million times better than delirium, that telefragging jackass is terrible
Wait, where have you heard people saying that? I respect if people think otherwise, but I've honestly never heard anyone say that. From what I've seen, Hush is a phenomenal fight to me and a lot of other people seem to agree. There's a constant need to be careful, and then switching into needing to be fast as hell with attacks like the Brimstone eye attack thing, or just standing still with the continuum tears. You'll still be under pressure even if you're OP. And it all feels *so good.* It's easily the best fight in the game for me (though I haven't played Repentance yet cuz I've been waiting for console release so maybe Mother or the Home bosses are better, but idk man this fight has it all for me rn)
Yeh Hush is def my favourite boss in the whole game. Hush is hard because of a variety of tricky, complex and precise attack patterns that can be learned with practice and skill, Deli is hard because he just spams stuff all over the place with no logic.

the "battle cry" that is in this song is actually isaac's heavy breathing inside the chest. That's a fine detail if i've ever seen one.

@Diego Smith They're meaning the "HUFF"s that play throughout the song.
Always herd someone chanting "HUSH" still sounds awesome though
The Hush's right eye shoots orange bullets.
The Hush's left eye shoots blue bullets.
The Hush's mouth shoots pale orange/yellow bullets.

But i dont think you can stay still to dodge hush attacks
I will never forget my first time beating hush. I was a having a sub par run but decided to into the blue womb anyways. I was carrying the glowing hourglass and in the womb, I managed to get 4.5 volt. This essentially meant I could rewind time infinitely as long as I could deal enough damage. I grinded the fight for 30 minutes, rewinding time every time I was about to die, until I finally managed to beat him after what felt like an eternity.
Lol
I had a pretty bad run as Azazel when I first tried to see what hush was like back in afterbirth. I was just standing near hush at an angle holding down and letting go my left arrow key constantly until I had to move a tiny bit for certain attacks. It took ages but I beat him. I started with 12 black hearts and ended with 2.

The one true sound of fear and impending death in this awesome roguelike. Hush is out to silence you and stop your run where it stands. And it just gets more intense the longer it drags on.
Chaos Controller I guess you could say that Hush...
*IS TRYING TO HUSH US LIKE THE LITTLE BRATS WE ARE*
too far?
Okay, I'll just see myself out noe.
Hush,
*MEET CHAOS CARD.*
Delirum,
*ME*.... OH FUCK
oh you think you can hide behind your multiple phases, do you? think again.
SpookyGuy OWO wait, delirum can't get killed by the chaos card?!
xXx_DogeLV69_xXx Nope.
xXx_DogeLV69_xXx you can't kill chaos with with chaos, my friend.
This boss is the definition of “shit go back.”
This was by far, one of the most memorable bosses I have ever fought in this game.
I knew afterbirth had a crap ton more content but this guy was just unbelievable.
i think hush represents isaac drowning in the chest.
hush is trying to stop isaac to commit suicide.
And when isaac kill hush, isaac die in the chest,
And when hush kill isaac, isaac wake up in the chest and again start to die, (fight with hush).
the screams in this song represents isaac's forced breath.
that's why this room appear if you make all the run quickly.
is because isaac still alive of the suffocation in the chest and hush represent that feeling of not want to drown.
just think it
Don't you mean suffocate?
a little error
SWAG MAN I can just imagine he gets in his chest then water just pours in
Why did you make so many new lines
DUMB THEORY TIME:
Many people like to think that Hush is Isaac suffocating in the chest, or trying to save Isaac from doing so, but I like to think Hush is something completely different.
KingHerobrine876 you forgot to add that when you unlock "???" you also unlock Blue Womb
To win the game you must kill me, Edmund McMillen.
But hey, that's just a theory...

Mmmm. No, gonna have to disagree there. WotL had the best. Remember My Innermost Apocalypse? That's the high mark for Isaac music.
Hush is definitely the best boss so far. Such a unique style of attack, combined with his ability to resist OPness. Very challenging, if you can't dodge the shots that well.
+Aidan Carter sadly can still be one hit killed by a chaos card
+Aidan Carter Lol, OPness.

The War screams are coughs and Hard breathing of isaac in the chest
In the battle,Your vision gets darker, there is also venis in your vision, That both things are symptoms of Suffocation,You can see better the veins if you kill Hush of One Hit with the Chaos Card

Hush is a battle of stamina. It's a race to determine what happens first; Hush suffocates in the dying room that should be his birthplace, or you suffocate under the sheer weight of his attacks. It's a tooth and nail fight for survival. And that alone is enough to give me chills.

Repentance has a chance, but uh...
Hush already has more health than any other boss, he don't need a third form.

Every time I fight Hush I have to crank the music all the way up in the menu. It gives me so much fightin' energy. Perfect song for this boss fight.

lots of people think hush is trying to save Isaac, but his name actually stands for "die".
Morituros too
r2d2401 I think Language
Morutiros translates from Latin : "Die" or "About to die". *(Teory Rain Incoming)*
Delirium is a mental state where you are confused and not able to think or speak, so you are not so wrong.
I do believe hush is a representation of a child that suffocated under a pillow (can’t remember what it’s called) basically it was a child either deliberately or accidentally suffocated by their mother (which does happen often) this does emphasize the saying “hush” as in going I sleep... forever
They suffocated in a chest
Sooo... Here's my first encounter with Hush:
First, I got Guppy and Fish Tail (I was Azazel, my "scout for new places"), and so, I entered Blue Womb.
First problem, I had 5 keys. I opened the shop to see if there were any keys there. There weren't.
Next, one of the chests had TAMMY'S HEAD. Which I grabbed after debating if I should keep Guppy's Paw for the extra 6 soul hearts it could give me.
I entered the boss room and the first phase wasn't much problem (it was my first time fighting Blue Baby, so I didn't know much of how he moved)
Then...

To be honest this isn't a bad theme, it's pretty great theme, but FUCK was it underwhelming.
When I heard the new boss fight was "gonna make Mega Satan look easy", I was super pumped, not only for the challenge, but also for the kickass music. Like, c'mon:
Hericide: The most metal ass boss fight music in a game, not to mention you're fighting the god damned MEGA Devil.
Ascension: Fits the mood beautifully for the blue baby fight, one of the most emotionally filled songs in videogames IMO (even if it usually only does play for less than 3 seconds.)
Then the Hush fight has this. I mean, it's good when you listen to it at first and are too busy saying "What the fuck is this?!?!?!?" to pay attention, but after a while it gets old and isn't very fitting.
But I guess that's just my opinion.

Yes, Musik is always the only German word. If you wanna know why, just read my channel description.
Yes, I can, but why would I kill you?
I honestly have no idea why, but last time i fought hush, fight ended after ???'s phase. Defeated before 20:00 in Victory Lap hush like... gave up? That was weird as fuck.
Dawid Barański Maybe Hush can only be defeated once?
hush is the mind of isaac screaming to him that HE IS SUFFOCATING(because he is inside the chest) but isaac thinks that the hush is another monster of his imagination, the 30:00 minutes on the first run for the hush is the time isaac´s mind gives to you, the player to save him, and when you kill the hush it means that you DIE(if you se the screen in the hush fight, you will notice that veins start appearing and it starts getting darker, sinthomes of sufocation) and in the victory run, isaac is dead, your mind gave up, you sufocated in the chest...its sad...an a bit traumatizing, but it is what it is(what a plot twist, you are fighting whit your chances of living:v) oh, and dont jugde how i write, i am spanish :3
edit: it was 30 minutes, or 20?
cristobal zuñiga Nope. Hush isn't Isaac's mind. Hush is Isaac's suffocation itself (Sorry for my bad English )
it could be thechnically both?
like the representation of his asphixia in isaac´s mind?

1. i can be bad at english too, because i'm polish :)
2. i totally agree with your theory. i heard it somewhere else.
3. to get to hush you need to get to and beat it lives in 30 minutes, but i was in victory lap, so i got there quickly and killed him under 20 minutes. it might some kind of bug or you can't beat hush in one run twice.
don't know, but it was funny, when he died after 1 phase :D
