I think the "tenting" occurs from bulky seam joins at the back. Try to trim off all the "dog ears" (pointy bits) before stitching your pieces together. Also, there's a way to press your seams in a particular direction to help eliminate the bulk. This will create a decorative circle of seams, that are much flatter. Hope this helps! :)
