Reality in Black was Moonbyul's era. When you heard all of the songs on this album Moonbyul really stood out for me. She really step up in this album. 💕💕
YES! UNIVERSE SUPREMACY! Moonbyul/Moonstar and Hwasa were actually in that section as well. "MOON and STAR, SOLAR" then they incorporated Hwasa's name to an actual lyrical sentence after that. 온 세상을 화사하게 밝힌 빛이 (on sesang-eul HWASAhage balghin bich-i). Also to make you love Universe more, when Wheein said "Ari" she was talking about Ariana Grande which is further strengthened by featuring a sample of Ariana's song NASA. So when they said "I might be a telescope that observes you ARI Like the song name..." they mean "I might be a telescope that observes you NASA Like the song name" 🥰🥰🥰

We moomoos waited so long for a full length album after Melting and this one really didn't disappoint! Fun fact about 4x4ever though: I think the plan was to have all the girls belting the "we are young" part of the chorus, or well, Wheein was meant to at least. On the day of recording wheein wasn't feeling in the best of conditions so said she couldn't do it / wasn't confident about pulling it off, then the producer was like 'no problem, we'll just get yongsun to do it all' lmao
Actually Wheein and Hwasa refuse to do the high part, they pretend to be sick back then I believe (cmiiw), so they hand it to Solar. But as we know, all 3 can do it. Such a flex.

Byul's and Hyejin's names ARE also mentioned in Universe. It goes "Moon and Star (MoonByul), Solar." and then it says: On sesangeul HWASAhage balkin bichi." and then "Oh Wheein, Jupiter and Mars". So ALL names are there, because they wrote this song about one another. Basically, the whole concept of rEALITY in BLACK is that regardless of what the girls chose to do with their lives, even if they weren't all together in Mamamoo, they'd still end up meeting and becoming friends, because it was their DESTINY to do so. This is better explained or shown when you watch all HIP teasers, in which you can see them all in different universes and yet, somehow, they all find each other one way or another in the end.
Funny story about Ten Nights: Moonbyul totally forgot the lyrics (badly) when they performed this live on stage. This in turn made Wheein forget her lyrics as well, like a total domino effect. You can see Solar trying to hold back her laugh and Hwasa being the most professional one as she kept a straight face. The reason why Moonbyul forgot her lyrics? It’s because they all were playing a fart game back stage and Moonbyul wasn’t in the right mind when they started performing. Hilarious video!

Yeah it's longer and has more tracks because "Reality in Black" is their full studio album whereas "Travel" is only a mini album. But regardless of whether it's mini/studio album, their album are just so freakin goood!! To this day, I still always go back and forth listening to their other albums as well.

I hope that Mamamoo performs more than just Hip at their May 1st concert. Reality in Black is such a good album and deserved more attention than it got. It wasn't exactly ignored, it's Mamamoo's 2nd best selling album after Travel, but it wasn't promoted as vigorously as a full album should be. It didn't hit me until I started listening to Dreamcatcher and saw the enormous outpouring of content for Dystopia: The Tree of Language(Scream, Black or White, AND Red Sun all got promotional periods!) that Reality in Black only got one MV and a pre-release single. 👀 My favs that you haven't gotten to yet are High Tension(it's really different from the other songs on the album!) and I'm Your Fan(Solar wrote it and I'm soft for this song).
My favorite album. I love your reaction as always. There is a real lack of live versions of the b-sides here because covid restriction started not that long after this dropped. There is one of Ten Nights but the only 4x4 I know of is just the first verse leading into one of their performances of Hip and I've never seen one of Universe.

The whole album is DOPE!! I can’t wait for you to see the rest. When you go back through their albums you’ll see so much difference in terms of how much verse time moon gets. LOVE that you Dig universe, it’s so cute too cause in that pre chorus they actually say all their names. Moon and Star is Moonbyul cause that’s what moonbyul is in English. Unfortunately the English lyrics don’t write Hwasa’s name seeing as Hwasa means shining brightly In English. But if you listen carefully the say Hwasa after the Solar parts the song is basically a song from them to them. Ten Nights vocals are just A1, all of their vocals SHINE There is a clip where they do 4x4 into hip but the only thing is that the award show they performed it on was having issues with their sound system and Solar admitted on vlive that they had to lip sync because of that. A newfound discovery", or something like that, right? Well, when she said that last part in the verse, "a newfound discovery" (sinbalgyeon/신발견/新發見), she pronounces it so harshly in the song that it could be confused as her cursing!😂 Several Moo translators were saying that it sounded like she said "I dont need your bullshit review"
I forget - have you watched the Destiny premiere on Queendom? If not it's a must see. I have a theory about the performance concept that's fairly long-winded so I'll spare you the essay but I think your initial impression of the meaning wasn't really on target. The performance on Queendom might make their intent clearer. Universe includes call outs of all the members' names in clever ways. Such an earworm. One of my favs. You gotta see Ten Nights and 4X4ever live. Destiny, Universe and 4X4ever all include references to Mamamoo's belief that they are fated soulmates. Mamamoo has never won a song of the year, album of the year or artist of the year daesang award (Grand Prize). If kpop awards were based on artistic merit rather than popularity Mamamoo could have won the 2018 album of the year award for Blue;S, 2019 for White Wind, and 2020 for reality in BLACK, which was released too late in 2019 to qualify for year end awards. I might be just a tad biased in my opinion 🙄 but it's a fact that Mamamoo got shafted by at least one of the major award organizations. When I was puzzled that MMM wasn't nominated for some 2020 awards I looked into the date range qualifications for their 2019 and 2020 awards. There was a two week gap in Nov 2019 that included the release date for Hip and reality in BLACK so by rule they didn't qualify in either year. Kpop awards are too bogus to bother speculating on the coincidence of that mistake.
15:04 It's me again, I think I know now why we are reminded by Imagine Dragons. I think it's because the chorus of 4x4ever and Adrenaline have THAT bass drum section, which I think is Imagine Dragons' strength, so I noticed with their songs. And somehow I have associated OneWe's music with One Republic because of the neat strings/acoustic section. Haha
your "universe" reaction is, unfortunately, quite rare... a lot seem to consider it too... i don't even know, there's always different words used here... 'too generic', 'too poppy', 'too...whatever' so it apparently doesn't rank that high with many fans and all four members names were used in the song, just solar's and wheein's were the easiest to catch. it starts with 'moon and star', so moonstar. and between solar and wheein they use the word 'hwasahage'. so hwasa is covered "10 nights" was the song they promoted alongside "hip", so there are several lives of it. i absolutely love that byul is the one that gets a high note in the song, how they pushed to get vocalist byul added to official songs like this sadly, there's only one live performance of "4x4ever" and, even more sadly, it's not actually them singing live... it was the year end award show where they were told the audio system couldn't handle live vocals, so they'd have to lip sync it... it started with an amazing bit from byul talking about cyberbullying, went into "4x4ever" and then followed up with "hip" one of the songs on the album, wheein and hwasa sort of played a prank on solar, with the full support of the producers... i forget if it was for "4x4ever" or not, though. but either way, all three of them were supposed to sing a line in a high key but wheein just faked not feeling well so the staff were just 'that's okay, we can have the others carry the slack', then hwasa pulled the same thing and they were 'it's fine, solar can handle it'... wheein revealed that to solar at one of their fanmeets, apologizing for it. solar was absolutely shocked and then replied 'so that's why they had me stay and record that part so many times...'

15:04 It's me again, I think I know now why we are reminded by Imagine Dragons. I think it's because the chorus of 4x4ever and Adrenaline have THAT bass drum section, which I think is Imagine Dragons' strength, so I noticed with their songs.
And somehow I have associated OneWe's music with One Republic because of the neat strings/acoustic section. Haha

your "universe" reaction is, unfortunately, quite rare... a lot seem to consider it too... i don't even know, there's always different words used here... 'too generic', 'too poppy', 'too...whatever' so it apparently doesn't rank that high with many fans
and all four members names were used in the song, just solar's and wheein's were the easiest to catch. it starts with 'moon and star', so moonstar. and between solar and wheein they use the word 'hwasahage'. so hwasa is covered
"10 nights" was the song they promoted alongside "hip", so there are several lives of it. i absolutely love that byul is the one that gets a high note in the song, how they pushed to get vocalist byul added to official songs like this
sadly, there's only one live performance of "4x4ever" and, even more sadly, it's not actually them singing live... it was the year end award show where they were told the audio system couldn't handle live vocals, so they'd have to lip sync it... it started with an amazing bit from byul talking about cyberbullying, went into "4x4ever" and then followed up with "hip"
one of the songs on the album, wheein and hwasa sort of played a prank on solar, with the full support of the producers... i forget if it was for "4x4ever" or not, though. but either way, all three of them were supposed to sing a line in a high key but wheein just faked not feeling well so the staff were just 'that's okay, we can have the others carry the slack', then hwasa pulled the same thing and they were 'it's fine, solar can handle it'... wheein revealed that to solar at one of their fanmeets, apologizing for it. solar was absolutely shocked and then replied 'so that's why they had me stay and record that part so many times...'
