I'm in the process of putting together a '78 Z1-R. 12.5:1 1198cc and a Pro J Model head except this time I'm getting 36 flat slides because Lectron carbs aren't good for street riding. Finding a pipe is going to be hard because I'm looking for a Denco Pro FX or Vazer Pipe. With a slick and wheelie bars I should be in the 8.90 index with ease. I love these old Kaw's as much as I love the old 350 Chevy. These are a classic hot rod.
I’m still looking at this video 13 years later June 2, 2022. I’ve been writing these old school since 1983. I have one completely built and enough parts to build three more. I’m never getting rid of my old schools🎉🎉🎉
Very Nice my Brother clean!!! If you are A Bike enthusiast you got to get you A Kawasaki 1000 old school the Girls love them i cant tell you how Much kiity kat I've gotten because of This Bike. This is the players choice of Rails in the Stable.
by far dis is da best KZ ive ever seen! awesome job, i like everything about it. are da foot pegs, brake pedal,& exhaust availeble @ HDFR? or one of a kind? holla @ me, god bless!!!!
"James Davis", you can use '73 to about '80 k-z frames (with brace kit) or, if you have dough, Spondon makes modern (infinitely improved) replica frames (accepts kz body-work)
Where's Mike Shultz in Frederick MD. I'm thinking of buying one that needs put back together, already streched and powder coated. Nice bike by the way!!!
I'm a kz lover, built many of them.Your bike looks great, very clean and nicely done.If you every come to bike week in Daytona look me up.You can check out one of mine on Y Tube(kz1000 turb)
ROFL@Shes pretty fast, she'll hurt you. Nice looking but listening to it idle it would be hard pressed to run in the 9.90 or faster index. Being able to start it with a stock starter tells me is a low compression motor. My 78 LTD used an 1198cc 12.5:1 piston kit with a bred and sleeved stock block. I ran a VHR Pro J Model head with 35mm Lectron carbs from Paul Gast and a Denco left hand tricone sidewinder. I ran an 8.90 index all day longt. I used the factory '78 LTD paint too.
It's 11 to 1 the reason I can start it on stick start is because it has a fire switch which allows the motor to spend at about half tact til I hut the fire button. It's not a track bike I run it ion the street with c12 race fuel . This bike is riden daily in 100 degree heat with no problem . I'm sure 8 second bikes are trailered to the track.shell be on give track the season and I'm sure she'll better then 9.90 maybe not 8s but for what she is she's fast.
It's not z1 , it's a kz . So it has the right side covers . Why does every one think they know more then me. I've been riding old kaws for 20 years . Damn
I just got a 1980 kz1000 ltd off of my sister's boyfriend. He said it was built by a guy in Frederick,MD too I think it may be the same place. Can you send me that number cause I'm trying to go that route like yours but I
At music lover ur a joke. The chromoly steel that its made out of cost more the 80 bucks. If u want to ride around on an 80 dollar swing go right ahead I hope u have a good life insurance policy.

I used a 2000 zx9 on mine. You can use just about any one, you have to reuse the steering stem from the stick front end.
